A cynical person might interpret that thought as a little bit racist in and of itself, because of the teeth and glasses. You kinda can't ever win with justifications and this stuff.
That totally sucks. I thought the buck teeth were visual shorthand for braces. That both John and Jade had buck teeth (braces) and glasses I took as further visual shorthand signifying that the two were related, and also related them to Nanna And Sassacre, who also had buck teeth and glasses. That they wear glasses is less 'problematic' when taken in the context of just how many other characters wear glasses or other eyewear. I actually thought it was nice that there were so many characters that wore glasses. Wasn't glassesstuck a meme during the troll arc?
When are John and Jade getting their braces taken off?
I don't think it's visual shorthand for braces, but I agree that what it actually is it just an indication of how they're related. What I was saying is how America has some history of depicating the stereotypical asian as buck toothed and wearing glasses. The buck tooth thing probably not so much since world war 2, but it's still a cultural memory. So, attributing asian heritage to them could be seen by a cynical, jaded person as being racist.
I don't personally think that's universally the case. Mostly I think it's the black hair, which is actually a pretty universal asian genetic trait. But my point was that trying to justify how homestuck fans aren't really racially biased can backfire on you.
i remember when i first started reading homestuck earlier this year some people were like 'oh when adus gets to vriska that means we can have vriskapinions again' and others were like 'nooo not again' but look
we're all getting along talkin about how great vriska is

Maybe it's not politically correct however, it's quite often I've known of black people who don't follow societal norms, and I've heard people tell them:
"Dude, you're so white."
So when John said it, I pretty much just assumed Dave was a black guy that didn't follow stereotypes.
It does really bug me when people say things like "You're not really black/you're so white" or coconut, bounty, Oreo or other variants of "white on the inside". Shit is super racist you guys!

Man, I remember when Vriska was shown in her very first panel, and I knew, I knew, she was gonna make the fanbase go nuts. How right I was. Vindicated by history.

how long do you think you could make it before she murdered or disabled you
She had friends she didn't try to murder or disable. Kanaya for example. She tried being nice to Nepeta and Fef too. And toward the end of her arc she expressed conflicted feelings over the murders she did commit.
Nah, Vriska is the most well written and effective character of this whole thing so far. I think her evolution as a seemingly sociopathic psycho into a victim of circumstance and her own hubris was extremely believable and really well done. That final conversation with John, where she sees how in the wrong she probably is, but genuinely believes she's gone too far at this point to stop, is so good. Hussie even nailed her body language with it too. So good.

Isn't part of the whole thing that, according to their culture, Vriska was actually lenient? "Hey, kill everyone beneath you" was basically the mantra. Vriska's arc didn't end because of her sociopathic behavior.
It ended because she thought she could be a hero.
I agree, it is possibly the best thing about Homestuck. And as much of a vriska fan as I am, her story is done.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Its hard to take that as their culture when all of the examples of their culture (through the cast of trolls) that we are shown seem to be exceptions.

Haha yeah, when you get it coming and going. Like you're not traditionally ethnic or w/e so you get teased by your fam while at the same time getting shit from your bros (and because they're your fam/bros they never stop because you don't really hold it against them).
Like half the point was to contrast Terezi and Vriska, who basically dealt with the same issues and arrived at different conclusions.
Terezi had a totally bitching childhood! She lived in a tree and had a psychic dragon lusus. She's just a jerk who murdered dudes for fun then bailed on her bro instead of trying to help her.

Uh, a lot of the trolls are/were sociopathic and adhering to the 'kill all beneath me' standard. Gamzee, Equis, Eridan, Feferi
Equis died with an erection because he was being killed by his superior. Karkat hugged Gamzee and didn't begrudge him for the whole serial killer thing.

I think that's kind of the failure on Hussie's part. We're only largely ever shown the trolls through the main 12, who all actually act pretty human, minus some quirks. I guess the intention was originally to gradually grow on how fucked up their environment made them with the extreme cases like Eridan and Gamzee, but even they are only 2 of 12. Most of the trolls are pretty decent people. So I can definitely agree with what you're saying, but we've still been given enough examples of how messed up troll culture was, and even just Vriska's home life, to know shit was fucked up. Which is really all you need for her story.
Well, Equius died with an erection because he was strangled. That's what happens when you're a dude and die by strangulation.
It's pretty clear from the context of the rest of the scene he was not cool with Gamzee, and the implication by Hussie was Gamzee's caste have subtle mind powers to enhance their control of the lesser castes.

well, the thing about troll culture is that it's hard to tell where it stops being one big silly joke and starts being an actual thing that you can take seriously for the purpose of character
it works as a story about what it might be like to grow up in a society where bloodlust is ubiquitous and murder is commonplace, but also it works as a skit about what if internet trolls were literal space aliens
so vriska's arc is simultaneously a tragedy about vengeance and redemption and a comedy about sexy pirates and nicolas cage
Yeah, and a couple months down the road from there, Hussie made that implication of brain powers. Submission is just a part of Equius' character, it's a major part of his dichotomy. But I certainly don't think he wanted to be choked to death by the troll he was going out to kill.
I don't really say this to disagree with your point on the trolls and their world Munkus, mostly just because I liked Equius a lot. Still wish Hussie had done more with him.

When Karkat tells Equius that Gamzee has snapped and started killing people, Equius balks at Karkat's suggestion to stop him because Gamzee is finally fulling his role.
CT: D --> Are you saying the highb100d has finally embraced his position atop the hierarchy
CG: NO I'M SAYING HE FUCKING SNAPPED AND WANTS TO MURDER US ALL
CT: D --> Yes e%actly
CG: DAMMIT, WHY DOES THIS CONVERSATION HAVE TO BE SO PREDICTABLY TERRIBLE
CG: ALL I'M ASKING YOU TO DO
CG: NO, ORDERING YOU TO DO
CG: IS GO FIND GAMZEE AND BEAT HIM TO DEATH WITH YOUR BARE HANDS, OR POSSIBLY TWO HALVES OF A BROKEN BOW, BEFORE HE KILLS ANYONE ELSE.
CT: D --> I certainly appreciate the debauchery inherent in receiving an order of such gravity from a rogue-b100ded foulmouth
CT: D --> But
CT: D --> I'm not entirely positive I can raise a hand to the highb100d

Equius loved the blood caste hierarchy. One of his first conversations is with Gamzee, where he tries to implore Gamzee to act according to his station.
When Karkat tells Equius that Gamzee has snapped and started killing people, Equius balks at Karkat's suggestion to stop him because Gamzee is finally fulling his role.
