    Sounds like your components are getting a scale baked onto them that is not part of the proper object space. Try fixing that.

    I would recommend weighing your components before you do your baking. You'll ruin your scales if you put them in the oven.

    Seriously though, double-click on the scale tool in the toolbox to bring up the tool options, I am guessing it was somehow set to "Normals average".

    Just reset the tool and you should be good to go.
