Conservatives Is Weird: Failed(?) Armed Coup at Freedom Works Edition

We don't have a a LOLGOP/conservative movement thread at the moment, and this story is too bizarre to not post about. So let's enjoy this story.
Richard K. Armey, the group’s chairman and a former House majority leader, walked into the group’s Capitol Hill offices with his wife, Susan, and an aide holstering a handgun at his waist. The aim was to seize control of the group and expel Armey’s enemies: The gun-wielding assistant escorted FreedomWorks’ top two employees off the premises, while Armey suspended several others who broke down in sobs at the news.

The coup lasted all of six days. By Sept. 10, Armey was gone — with a promise of $8 million — and the five ousted employees were back. The force behind their return was Richard J. Stephenson, a reclusive Illinois millionaire who has exerted increasing control over one of Washington’s most influential conservative grass-roots organizations.

Like... really? Disarray is one thing, but this shit is bizarre. Both in that a coup happened to seize control over a PAC and that they rewarded him with an $8 million dollar severance package. Well, re-seize control? Just, the whole thing is weird.

Would the Republican Party/conservative movement kindly get their shit together and start being a responsible partner in governing? It would make all of us much happier.

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

    Take over FreedomWorks?

    You and what armey?

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

What... what the hell am I reading?

I mean, I've been able to follow the rough outlines of the unlimited corporate donations and reclusive billionaires secretly pulling the strings of groups calling themselves grassroots movements, but... then Dick Armey walks into a building with a gun and walks out with $8 million and I'm pretty sure I just read the abandoned script of the next Oceans 11 sequel.

I am shocked, shocked, to learn that a "grassroots" organization like freedomworks is really just a front group for handful of millionaires.

    That's nothin'.

The billionaire Koch brothers backed THREE fake-ass "grassroots" PACs:

    - American Crossroads
    - Americans for Responsible Leadership
    - Americans for Prosperity

At least all those millions wasted on losing campaigns are trickling down into the economy, amirite?

I'm guessing this is a state with no laws against bringing a gun into a random building as my first question is why is this guy not rotting in jail?

Interesting that this is a Tea Party joint. I'm halfway convinced that the TP was a first step at forming an old-fashioned fascist mob that fizzled when all the brownshirts arrived at the rally with oxygen tanks and hoverounds.

I'm not sure I understand. So he basically decided "this is my PAC now" and told other people to leave? While he had some armed dude with him? That sounds an awful lot like the start of a bad action movie. Not fun-bad, either. Just bad.

I think if you got the right actors it could be a pretty amusing farce.

So can like anybody just walk into FreedomWorks with a gun and leave with 8Mil?

I mean, it probably helps to have a name as terrifying as Dick Armey but I figure the gun cant hurt.

I can't handle this, I just can't, a staunchly conservative Tea Party college classmate of mine interned at FreedomWorks last summer (of 2011) for our political institutes program at Rutgers, and he was all about dem grassroots and dem liberal persecution of conservatives on college campuses (olololol). This guy, just fyi, is also a friend/ally of James O'Keefe, aka Vigilante Douchenozzle Extraordinaire. I am practically wetting myself with the schadenfruede. I don't understand it fully but piss-soaked undies are telling me not to worry about it

I only wish to see him one more time, so that he may squirm and explain this one away

No, only the politically connected have the juice to get away with something like this. Peasants would just be robbers or thieves.
