All this is telling me is that I need to start a republican super PAC for the next election run.

Then show up with a few armed guards once it goes belly up and collect on all that dosh.

Just need a name that'll catch on with the red-blooded among us. Something like "America Freedom", "Right to Liberty", "Forward for Justice"... "The Red Truth"?

I love how SCOTUS and the natural inertia of the election process have turned the Philosopher's Legacy from a typical example of Kojima's holy-shit craziness to something perfectly sensible and representative of our times. At least here.

It would be deliciously hilarious to raise money for a Republican cause and then spend it in opposition of their ideals.

Americans for Conservative Thought - actually contributes to Bernie Sanders and such from the coffers of hoodwinked billionaires. Delicious.

That being said, Armey was clearly not a silly goose, since he walked away with eight million dollars.
Armey was a fool. He tried to assert control over what he assumed was his, necessitating the powers that be to inform him of who is really in charge. At least he got something for his trouble. And to keep quiet.
He went from making $500,000 a year as chairperson, to making $400,000 a year as a consultant who has severed all ties to the organization, i.e. $400,000 a year for doing nothing.

I'm hesitant to call someone getting paid that kind of cash for doing nothing a fool.

To the powerful, power is more valuable than money. He now has a title and a paycheck, and likely nothing more. For one who was apparently a believer in the cause this would be an unpleasant awakening. In time he may gather the resources and influence to mount a more successful rebellion, or he may find some happiness in his retirement. For now, he has been put in his place.

When you lie down with the dogs, you wake up to your face being licked. When you go to bed with these people, your morning is not so nice. However, you may be well paid.

Nah, for full irony you should spend it in support of positions so conservative that they end up in opposition to their ideals. Resegregate baseball, base the South's economy on non-mechanized cotton plantations, and tell Sarah Palin and Ann Coultner to get back in the kitchen where they belong.

While to you or I $8 million would be enough to be set for life, to Dick Armey it's not "leave[ing] with empty pockets". Still, I could be wrong. Maybe this ploy was all just to get a better severance package. Maybe Dick Armey never really wanted to be in charge of a super PAC. And maybe Mitt Romney never really wanted to be president.

Shocking as it may be, bringing an armed guard to a firing is not something one usually faces charges for. Unless it's done by the one being fired.

Why would the hypothetical person being fired not be allowed a legally licensed and regulated armed bodyguard present? I thought it was not a threat, implied or actual?

I think it's more likely he waited behind a curtain until somebody shouted "I'm in charge here!" so he could dramatically fling back the drapery and shout "Not anymore you're not!"

Actually, I'm thinking that conceal csrry permits should come with a required set of jangly spurs which must be worn at all times.

Because if you're going to bust some heads with a gunslinger at your side, you need to set the atmosphere just right.

Not officially. They tend to keep those things on the DL. Not that they don't partake, mind you. They just like being in a position to pass judgment.

So what's going on with Ron Paul?

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2012-12-31/ron-paul-congress-stop-legislating-your-ideas-fairness-protect-property-rights-prote
Understand that economic freedom is freedom. Resolve not to get in the way of voluntary contracts between consenting adults. Stop bailing out failed yet politically connected companies and industries. Stop forcing people to engage in commerce when they don’t want to, and stop prohibiting them from buying and selling when they want to. Stop trying to legislate your ideas of fairness. Protect property rights. Protect the individual. That is enough.

Yes, legislating the idea of fairness is a bad thing. Why in the world would we desire fairness from the people who write our laws?

Legislating Christian morality is still okay, however.

  • QuidQuid Definitely not a banana Registered User regular
To be fair he's against our ideas of fairness.

He prefers the ones that result in homeless people starving because they weren't born to the right parents.

Ron Paul arguably does not believe in the social contract. He is a deluded old fool, complete with the hallmark small cult of idiots.

I have an increasingly short tolerance for people who are too beholden to their own idealism to even consider the effects of their ideals once implemented. We can no longer treat gently people who would insist upon their worldview without taking responsibility for it.
