Parish Cafe is amazing. It's expensive for just getting sandwiches, but they are incredible. My favorite there is the meatloaf sandwich. It's a double-decker with chipotle using grilled bread. $10, but fantastic. Also, their beer list is small but good.
While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.
I can't believe I forgot to mention this place: South Street Diner. It's pretty much the only 24-hour diner in the city and it's located around the corner from the bus terminal at South Station, the perfect place for breakfast-for-dinner, although they have more than just breakfast items. And best of all, it's not expensive. Since South Station is pretty much the hub for PAX, this place is worth noting.
Keep in mind that when 1 or 2 am rolls around, the place can get packed with the club kids and the bar crowd, so it gets filled with rude and obnoxious jerks at that point.
While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.
@scorpius how is the overall cleanliness of South Street? I mean it's a diner (no 4 star fanciness) but on yelp people complained of roaches running around
@dolarrah I'm driving in from western Mass so I'll drive up to 20 mins or so from the BCEC to eat as long as it doesn't drain my bank account to nab a parking spot ;P
@Le_Goat Are the sandwiches Man vs. Food colossal or are they just standard lunch size sandwiches? At least they're open late & they get good reviews
@Le_Goat Are the sandwiches Man vs. Food colossal or are they just standard lunch size sandwiches? At least they're open late & they get good reviews
They are larger than lunch standards, but not as big as Man vs. Food; those are just insane. I'll put it this way, to bite into the meatloaf sandwich, you have to squeeze it down with both hands while biting to get it to fit. It's big and you get what you pay for, but it's something you can finish in one sitting.
And for the South Street Diner, I've never run into any cleanliness issues; in fact, I plan on going there this weekend because I haven't been in so long. It's a tiny diner in the heart of a major city, so you can't expect it to be spotless. Again, just avoid the place from 1:00-3:00 am on Friday/Saturday nights: drunken idiots unite there

Harvard isn't that bad being right on the red line and all. Just hop on a northbound train from South Station for about 20 minutes.
It should also be noted there's a Tasty Burger in Harvard Sq as well. At the end of the block with the Unos and the entrance to The Garage. Though if you're going to that area, you may as well hit Fire+Ice or Border Cafe.

I agree with Elzemer: Harvard is a great area of town with lots of bars/restaurants. Also in Harvard Sq. is John Harvards (a little pricey, but good and they micro-brew with cask conditioned ales) and Grendel's Den. And if you are curious (no pun intended), Harvard Sq. is home to the alleged only Curious George store in the world.

Avoid Fenway then, parking will cost more then Dinner. Especially on FRI & SAT night when they jack the prices for all the events in the area. Probably cheaper to take a taxi then park in Fenway. I would stick to Diner, or if you want the adventure, Harvard Square options are well worth the drive.
There is a parking garage not too far from South Station that is usually pretty cheap, considering it's location. It's 240 Devonshire Street, right off of Summer Street. I think it's $10 for the entire day on the weekends. I'll double-check when I go out for lunch. From what I remember, it's not usually too full.
If it's a Friday, then I don't have an suggestions other than parking on the outskirts of the city and taking the T in. And even then, those lots are completely full from business commuters.
EDIT: I just checked. It's $10 for the whole day. I think it's called Winthrop Square Parking Garage.

He was looking for late night. T stops at 12 or 12:30 depending on route and it is unforgiving by reputation.
@wrccitroen I've never had a cleanliness issue. Certainly not something like roaches for sure.
That being said, roaches happen in cities. A lot pf people are in and out of this place. If there was a problem, I guarantee it was taken care of immediately. There's too much traffic for them to not be shut down otherwise.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys!! My buddy & I are gonna hit up Tasty Burger near Fenway, they get good reviews on yelp, are open till 2AM & have free parking, say whaat?!
Omni Parker. Khakis or jeans? Or either with a nice top?
Assuming you're talking about the restaurant inside the Omni Parker House hotel: Khakis and probably a blazer. Ive never eaten there but that place is fancy.
I remember attending a conference there two years ago and went in with my de rigueur hoodie and jeans. That afternoon after lunch a random employee stopped me to ask if he could help me...in that 'do you belong here?' sort of manner.
I'd like to think it had nothing to do with my complexion as well...but yeah.
Omni Parker. Khakis or jeans? Or either with a nice top?
Khakis is fine, either way you'll be 400 years younger than anyone else in there and everyone will look at you in a "why are you here" manner. Personally I think the food is really really overrated just because people think its fancy.
Omni Parker. Khakis or jeans? Or either with a nice top?
Khakis and Collared Shirt (Polo ok) will do at lunch, blazer at dinner, though there official dress code is "Buisiness Casual" I have never heard of someone getting thrown out for sneakers at lunch.
It's over priced, and overrated. Only two reason to go there are for the world famous (I kid you not) "PARKER HOUSE ROLLS" (free with entrée) and the "Boston Cream Pie" which was pretty much invented there. Other then that, you can do much better in Boston.
Has anyone actually used one of the food delivery sites (Foodler) and asked them to deliver to the convention center? Exploring options for lunch and wondering if they would actually do this, since our hotel is not very close to the BCEC.
To me though... veggies are what my food eats. ^_^
There is a good place in Faneuil Hall called Durgin Park which has an awesome roasted vegetable platter with an incredible pesto; I've gone there just for that platter. Also has decent beer selection. The upstairs is more of a restaurant while downstairs is more of a hidden pub, the latter with not the greatest service, but hey it's a pub.

I'm actually actually surprised that the food trucks of Boston aren't going to be out there. They'd make a killing! Thousands of hungry gamers looking for quick, somewhat inexpensive food...

I know the Elder Scrolls foodtruck will be around on Friday afternoon, but I have no idea about other ones.
Thing is, the food trucks can only serve in certain areas in Boston. One of those areas being Dewey Square, which is right in front of South Station.
Here's an idea if you have a group of people: have the one or two that can walk the fastest go down to Dewey Square and/or South Station to pick up food for the group. Taking taxi or T would negate the savings of the food down there over the cost of the food in the BCEC food court.
I recommend Salvatore's (http://www.salvatoresrestaurants.com/seaport-district/). It's right around the corner from the Renaissance. Reasonably priced Italian food, good quality. During the day they have a smaller shop opened up for lunch you can run in and grab a sub or a couple of slices of pizza and what not. It's about a 10 min walk from the BCEC if you skip out for lunch.

Yeah, I checked with Roxi's Grilled Cheese and they said that the City of Boston does not allow them to operate outside of the registered zones. Huge bummer, actually. Issuing a weekend license for an event like PAX would draw additional revenues into the city, those trucks would bank, and there would be less rabidly hungry gamers. All pros, as I see it...

It's kinda sad, but seeing that a Shake Shack has opened up in Boston (today) is suddenly on my radar for a quick bite for dinner just because I've never been and the internet tends to rave about them... http://www.shakeshack.com/location/chestnut-hill/
This may be off-topic, but for those of us who might prefer to drink dinner occasionally, where can we buy liquor within a reasonable walk from the BCEC/Westin area?

Oooh...might have to try them Friday for lunch..looks really yummy
A note on the Omni Parker House Dress code, mind your foot wear if you want to do anything besides a quick a bite at the bar. My mother and I tried to go there for tea once (What?! I love my mother and she likes tea!) and we were not allowed into the tea room as she was wearing sneakers. The 4 Seasons let us right in.

Cosplay will be very interesting for my room mates and I. Maybe we can sneak in/out through the staff elevator ^_^
I mean, I'll be wearing a vest, ascot, pinstripe slacks, & typical black loafers so maybe I'll blend right in... if it were 1912.

@JerYnkFan Make sure that you show up before noon, as they sell out of certain items. The Rib one is by far the best, but the Green Muenster is also very tasty.
@N13 There is a liquor store in Chinatown, but I'd suggest going before it gets dark. Chinatown isn't really dangerous, but the later it gets, the easier to end up where you shouldn't be. There is also a liquor store on Washington Street near Downtown crossing, as well as a beer/wine selection in the 7-Eleven at the Aquarium.

I dunno, isn't this the same city that got freaked out by Moonites a few years back? A bunch of people walking in with buster swords (for cosplay cliches, I'm not sure if there would be a single) would probably warrant a riot squad call...
Hate to say it, if you plan on going to a nicer restaurant, just pack accordingly. I've tossed one collared shirt and a tie into my bag for 'just in case'.

Seriously. Its Boston. Though precautions and actions are taken, there's vermin almost everywhere just beyond the places you're allowed to see.
