can anyone explain to me why two 11 seeds are part of the first four
Since the creation of the First Four, there's always been two games for potential 16 seeds to play in and two games for potential 11 seeds to play in
This year's winning 11 seeds are Michigan and Wichita State
i just don't understand why they're 11 seeds
so there are like, 22 teams ranked worse than either of those two teams who have to play 1 fewer game to make the tourney
seems... wrong
maybe i'm streaming terrible dj right now if i am its here

Ratings mostly - give people more recognizable teams to watch in the First Four. The 16 seeds playing in are the worst teams to win automatic bids. The 11 seeds are the worst teams that qualify for At Large bids.
(Not that Michigan, Vandy, and Tulsa should've been given at large bids this year...)

Not to defend my team too much, but Michigan was like 15th nationally in wins over the top 30 and didn't lose to anyone below 100. The mid majors people wanted in have some awful losses and nowhere near as many quality wins.
Vandy and Tulsa were BS though, yes.

Welp, that was a fun first half, but looks like Duke remembered they're Duke.

Do you think they would've been dancing had they not beaten Indiana in the conference tournament? I feel like getting that extra shot at a ranked team is just too loaded in terms of favoring the power conferences

They wouldn't have been, but they should have been in regardless. Arbitrary cutoffs were killing them. Their record against the top 30 (3-7 before the tournament) was fine, but their record against the top 100 (3-10) was bad. But if Northwestern and Penn State had been top 100 instead of like 110, they're 7-10 and everyone's like "oh, they're obviously in."

Welp I didn't get up in time to see Cal's leading scorer broke his hand.
Good thing in this bracket I have Hawaii winning that game?
Man, I am hoping that Yale can keep this up. I have them winning this game in an upset, and with them up by 10, I actually have a chance of being right. I can't remember the last time I was actually 5-0
Someone fill me in on the ND/Michigan game, I was absorbed by Northern Iowa/Texas
Somehow ND was suddenly up 7 and I missed it
Michigan only got stops if ND turned it over and Michigan stopped playing team basketball offensively in the second half. Two absolutely atrocious foul calls on our best big (which is apparently our German freshman who barely played most of the year?) swung the game, as they were his third and fourth fouls. The fourth was a block/charge that should have been a Michigan and one to put them up 3 and staunch ND momentum.

Bummer, ebum. It's always frustrating when you watch your team get away frmo what was working offensively and start chucking up bad shots (see UNC/Duke part one this year)

IU/ UK game could be a lot of fun if they both advance.

Not bad for having done the bracket wildly as I realized the duke game just started because of west coast time

When you're down 5 against them and get the ball stolen with 40-something seconds left in the game, how do you not foul immediately??
How many?
All of them.
What in the hell

This is such a weird feeling. So happy but yet so disappointed in MSU
Edit: there's gotta be a German word to describe this and no, it's not schadenfreude...
