I'm hearing positive things, but growing up watching Chris Reeve be awesome leaves big boots, know what I'm saying?
I have high hopes and think Zach Snyder is pretty good in general. The 300 was stupid because The 300 is a stupid story. Superman can be a great story.

I think the new Superman will be cool. It seems like it's going to be more thinky than the other one.

The Prometheus was a cool fucking ship though. The visual design and cinematography was pretty good.

Hey actually, I really want some more alien archaeology. Any well written sci-fi novels that are like that? The Martian stuff was my favorite part of the Takeshi Kovacs series, for example.
Where is DK. I want him to say what he hated most about Prometheus
The entire movie. But I think what neatly summarizes it for me is the scene where they make it into the final chamber and they meet the engineer, and they're all so beaten down and sad. And the robit goes up to mr universe in grey body paint and talks to him in his own language: "Please mister alien, tell us what in the fuck is happening. Why did you do any of this? How rad are your people? Give us something."
GGWWWWAAAAAARRR!! ALIEN SMASH!!!
to be fair, we don't know what the robot said to the alien engineer. possibly it was something self-serving that convinced the engineer that humans (and their robots) were shit.
i think it was just like a rat going up to an exterminator and saying 'hey you're awesome lets hang out'
and the exterminator gasses the rat because it's an exterminator
a rat that one of your dudes died to create?
I guess I don't really go in for these kind of analogies anyway. if rats could talk to us in our language, I'd be super curious to hear what they had to say, at least for a while. and if the rat looked basically just like me but smaller?
but mainly I just found the entire scene a massive cop-out. the movie had invited me to consider certain questions and then went NOPE IT'S ALIEN SMASH TIME
I liked that about it. the aliens just don't give a shit about humans, they're pests to be eradicated. i thought that was a good twist on what was a deluded plan by a dying dude. like they've been wandering around a death factory the whole movie and it's a surprise they aren't going to reveal the secret of fire to the ants

I thought it was unbelievably stupid of them to just walk into that room and revive the engineer. The old guy is supposed to be real fucking smart, isn't he? And David too! I know maybe they didn't anticipate the engineer's hostility but who brings their VIP to the first meeting of an alien being.

I will watch anything Zack Snyder puts out at least once because his stuff is visual sugar. I own 300, but haven't watched it in a while because, yeah, it's not the greatest, but it's visually amazing.
I need to watch Sucker Punch and Legend of the Guardians again. I've only seen them once each.
Watchmen was pretty good until the end.
Watchmen had a great memorable line. "I'm not stuck in here with you! You're all stuck in here with me!"

I liked it. Watchmen was a tough adaptation and I couldn't imagine it being much better on screen than it turned out. Really the weakest part was probably Malin Ackerman (she was p bad).

Um, Hyperion, but you've read that, right?
Rogue Moon by Algis Budrys. We discover an alien pyramid on the dark side of the moon full of amazing technology. The problem is the inside is a crazy maze full of deathtraps. So they send this daredevil stuntman into it with a teleporter machine that clones him and sends the memories of the clone back to the original - so it's like a video game, he explores this ancient structure with his extra lives.
I will think of more, give me a minute.

The Watchmen is all right. As was Dawn of the Dead. I'm willing to give Superman a shot, the trailers have been hitting the rights notes at any rate.

Rogue Moon sounds like a good movie, but I don't want to read a book like that! Something serious!

we agree about the ending. it was a necessary change IMO, and excising the whole island of artists/ doomed freighter subplot was also the right move.
i liked the rest of it, though, so i guess we part company on this on in general.

Fall of Hyperion has easily my favorite plot twist and ending of any story. Usually with a story with a twist that isn't at the very end, you're pissed off and the thing just drags until the credits roll and put it out of its mystery. FoH it's more like "holy shit, that makes so much more sense and what the fuck are they going to do now!"

o i ended up eating veal brain the other day
it was not to my taste - flavorless and with an offputting soft texture. a lot like firm tofu.

7.5 hours in, and I've just finished with the
Game is shorter than I remember. Of course, knowing where to go is a massive time-saver, even though I didn't sequence break this time.
but it was huge and uncircumcised
such detail. man it was someone's job to convincingly 3-d animate a meaty glans covered in foreskin
