Animal Crossing: Holiday Time!

The hell is this?
Animal Crossing: New Leaf is the latest installment of the Animal Crossing series for the 3DS. This game is going to be super different and awesome than the last two games, Wild World and City Folk. Wild World and City Folk are near identical (I prefer Wild World, personally) but they've really expanded on what makes Animal Crossing great and what players want to do. So much new stuff, you guys. It's mad cute. You don't even know.

How is this game different, then? I still barely care.
Wow, rude, but okay.

BE THE MAYOR. You are the literal mayor of your town. You name it, and you own it. The game begins with a ceremonial planting of the town tree in front of all your adorable neighbors, and your reign of terror and/or golden era begins. Put money into community projects for your town, like clocks and fountains and flower gardens. Relationships with your neighbors create even more options for sprucing up your town, so talk to your neighbors! Do you play mainly at night, and hate that shit closes early? Do you play in the morning, and hate that nobody is fucking awake? MAKE THE RULES, MAN.

HOUSES. In previous games you had maybe 3-5 places to decide where you wanted your house. These spots were random and predetermined. Now, you can go to the exact spot you want your house on the map and build it there. Want it on a cliff by a waterfall by the beach? Done. You start out in a tent, but with enough money invested you can build new expansions, included a basement! Hang stuff on the walls, apply customizable patterns (shareable with QR codes) to literally anything. Your house will absolutely feel more like a home, not just some box they're letting you live in.

STORES. In previous games you had few stores at your disposal, but there's a whole dang shopping center in New Leaf. Tom Nook abandoned his general store for real estate, his one true calling, leaving his legacy to his nephews Timmy and Tommy. Re-Tail is a recycling store that buys items at a higher price than Nook's ever did, and is run buy a fucking alpaca. Jesus. That's so cute. Kicks sells shoes and socks, because fuck foot texture recoloring this is the FUTURE. The gardening store is run by a sloth, because why not. Club 101 is a hep new club where you can jam to K.K Slider in the presence of a disco ball.

THE ISLAND: The island makes a return! Hop on a boat with Kapp'n and head to an island where it's summer all the time. He will sing you songs while you head over, and once you get there you can do all sorts of rad shit. Catch all the summer bugs and fish regardless of what season it is. Go swimming. Ex-mayor Tortimor lives there now, and he will host minigames for you and your Wi-Fi friends. Win medals by acing these minigames, and use them as currency on the island for rare items. SPRING BREAK, WOOOO.

VILLAGERS. The absolute bread and butter of the Animal Crossing franchise, and they're now even better. All your old favorites are back, of course, but do you think that we're stopping there? NO. NO. All new species have been added. Deer, hamsters, alpacas, etc. Some of them are so fucking cute, you guys.. you don't understand. You. Don't. Understand. Your town size has also increased, so you can have a maximum of 12 of these kawaii ass things. They're not just cute, either! They do shit! I'm not kidding! Villagers actually participate in your town now, instead of wandering around in a state of limbo. They can shake trees (where items/money/bees can fall out), purchase items from shops, water plants (instead of carrying around a fucking watering can ACTING like they can). There is probably other stuff but the info isn't in english right now. But you get it, right?

I just.. I dunno. That doesn't sound like a lot, really.
WOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU. Okay.

+ New fruit. Lemons, bananas, mangoes, persimmons, and durians. GROW SMELLY ASS DURIANS, YO.
+ New hair/faces/colored contacts for your special eyes.
+ Create fruit baskets so you can carry all your juicy shit to the store and sell it for $$$. No more running back and forth, man. 9 fruit to one slot of inventory space. THE FUTURE.
+ Swim down into the terrifying ocean for rare sea creatures.
+ A new rock appears every day in your town, hit it with your shovel and unearth minerals to give to some alpaca guy and he will make shit for you. What.
+ Use Street Pass to collect people's houses and towns.
+ Two new villager personalities! Smug for the males (polite, gentlemanly, easy to get along with) and "uchi" for females (a mix of snooty/normal).

Okay, when does it come out?
June 9th in the United States, and June 12th in the UK. While this is exciting news in and of itself, Nintendo just announced today that the limited edition Animal Crossing 3DS XL bundle will be available in BOTH OF THESE PLACES. It will retail for $220 and will have the game pre-loaded onto a 4GB SD card. You are looking at my birthday present to myself.
