Animation is not only hard, the writing has to be re-purposed for it. It does not follow the same rhythm as a comic strip. That's why whenever comic strips are remade into animation, so often they are so awkward and bland.
And we're not talking especially good writing here in the first place.
Adding a few zooms and some text transitions do not make it a cartoon, nor does adding audio.
DOn't get me wrong, the HiImDaisy comic dub is the best thing, but it's not really animation.
The point was they didn't have to repurpose the writing and the pacing stays good - it's not the actual animation process (made of small frame changes) that would affect that aspect
That's true. It's an animatic.
Buuuut it has good pacing. It could be a very good base for a good animation.
sorry for throwing the stone and not been here, but was out all weekend because I had an emergency (hospital involved, not me everything is fine now),
anyway that video that will not name again kinda being posted because its something that is happening that will have reppercutions (webcomics fans paid for that thing)

My favorite part of Oglaf is still the ice queen.
She is just way too adorable.

It's a webcomic that refutes the point that the writing has to be changed to translate well. Animation has a lot of factors that go into it, and it is so much easier to screw up any one of those facets and ruin the whole thing than in a comic form.
Sometimes the writing won't translate from medium to medium, but it's not inherent.

Speaking of Sket Dance, my god the initial One-Shot of the manga is freaking tragic for a kid's comic.
For those who intend to read it (which I assume is all of you) I'll put this behind spoiler tags
Turns out, this girl was pretending to be her dead twin (who died in a car accident) to continue being the girlfriend of the dead twin's boyfriend, and he was deluding himself into believing she was still alive.

Totally agree, sket dance is pretty awesome sometimes super dramatic and sometimes pretty silly (like the wontendo episode) this 2:30 vomic was made using the script of a 19 pages chapter, and it was adapted to animation (adaptation is the key word here) but Im super sure that most jump comics are made with the anime adaptation in mind
If we want to talk animatic to animation, a fairly close approximation is Brad Neely's 'animations' which are mostly still drawings with voiceover.
His miniseries Chicago, IL started as that kind of thing, but then Cartoon Network picked it up and now it's a full-on animation.
I personally felt it didn't make the transition because I don't like the Cartoon Network version (it seemed way too clean, for starters), but I'll admit I love Neely's work so much, my opinion is likely extremely biased.
There's also the perspective that converting a cartoon into animation reveals bad writing and pacing, which was always there but just harder to detect in a flat page. If I had any artistic ability, I'd write a comic about superheroes who say entire treatises in between punches, to show how stupid most combat conversation is.

See, this is what bugs me about Girl Genius (ignoring the potato people), they are writing and drawing the story for a book. Its not an issue some times, but at others, where a book would be great with a single magnanimous page, a webcomic suffers. But on the other hand, after years of work and a massive fan base, they can get away with it.
Aww, it's funnier when BFL was just saying "oh my god".
I should not have edited it
I regret this

My grandma used to make a cookie which was just regular cookie dough, baked, and then before the cookies cooled she'd press a Hershey's Kiss into the top.

You do have access to chocolate chips, right?
Maybe it's made differently in the US, but Hershey's chocolate up here tastes awful.
I prefer the flavor of Hershey's over Milk Chocolate baking chips, but actually the point here is Hershey's Kisses were on sale
