Gatiss certainly is a white dude but isn't he gay?

Oh yes, not to mention RTD. There's been a good presence of gay writers since the reboot, it's just racial and gender diversity that's sorely lacking.

Doctor Who is an extremely inconsistent show about an extremely inconsistent character featuring extremely inconsistent villains and running on extremely inconsistent internal logic. At a certain point you just have to give your body up to it. You can't, for instance, try and find a through line between William Hartnell's Doctor and David Tenant's, because there isn't one. They different characters called the same thing. This show doesn't make sense, it will never make sense, it never really has made sense. If you try and twist your mind in such a way that it makes sense you'll go nuts, you just have to say "oh ok we're doing that now rightio".

I will also add that at it's heart it is a children's (or more accurately a family) show. Not only does it not make sense they do not care to explain it because the younger crowd that watch it do not care.

It's like spending an episode explaining how homer still works at a nuclear power plant despite having no qualifications and he quits or gets fired every other week.

That episode is a wealth of talent that needs to be further mined. The daughter could be Clara's friend? The old soothsayer for next villian? The possibilities are endless.

Guys I just watched the library episodes

Guys I think this season is like the first time I've really enjoyed all the episodes. Donna is perfect, the writing is solid. Before, I was on board but it was mostly just for the doctor's performance. But this season is just really good tv.

I think Donna is not in any more seasons and that's really too bad. Or maybe she is I'm not sure.

See I thought the Library story was a bright spot in an otherwise pretty so-so season

Maybe it was just having a great companion after Martha and rose.

Like I really enjoyed Pompeii and the Donna Martha team up and also the one with all the clones.

Season 4 also has the only episodes that I skipped when I ran through the series again with my best friend (Planet of the Ood and Unicorn and the Wasp because they're both Snooze City, population I don't know because I'm already asleep)

    LanglyLangly Registered User regular
Oh man I loved unicorn and the wasp.

    It has agatha Christie!

Also I loved the ood in satan episodes and thought that episode was pretty good.

How do you skip those and not fart aliens or Olympics

  • Options
Grey GhostGrey Ghost Registered User regular
    Fart Aliens I can't justify
I guess I thought it might be necessary to set up Boom Town which is actually fairly solid

Olympics... I think I had just not actually seen all of that episode and wasn't really aware of how bad it was

Grey GhostGrey Ghost Registered User regular
Also she insisted that we not skip any but by Donna's season we both just kinda wanted to speed things up and move on

Unicorn and the Wasp was fluff with an unusually silly premise, but I'll take it over the crap Chris Chibnall and Mark Gatiss churn out any day.

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship was great
Victory of the Daleks was pretty cool

That's one solid episode for each of those guys! Unicorn and the Wasp was just bleeeeeeeh

which is funny because Gareth Roberts also wrote The Lodger and Closing Time which are some of my favorite episodes of the Smith era

what I'm saying is this show is all over the map, I guess

Dinosaurs would have been okay except the characterizations made me want to physically injure him, and Victory of the Daleks was just god awful in every way. If you'd said Unquiet Dead for Gatiss then I would have agreed with you, but that's apparently the only good thing he's been willing to write. I can certainly agree with you on the last point though.

I can't hate Victory of the Daleks

The Power Ranger Daleks were pretty silly, but I thought the idea of WW2 planes with lasers fighting a flying saucer was great fun, and the fact that the climax of the episode is
disarming a bomb with the power of love makes me smile just thinking about it

Victory of the Daleks has the best commentary

"The internet hates the new daleks but these seven year olds we showed them to loved them so screw those guys"

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

Restoration Team head honcho and video expert Steve Roberts has stated his belief that Marco Polo has been found by Phil Morris.

When you actually read the article he is about as far from certain as possible, but it's still encouraging to hear.

Update: Morris has recently become much more active on twitter, including retweeting this:
