so, for those of you in the UK the horror channel (of all things) has started showing classic who. they've already done the daleks for hartnell and seeds of death for troughton. i fear my sky box may fill up pretty quickly!
The thing about Tennant is that when he got all shouty and started making threats I never believed he would follow through, because he kept giving his enemies infinite second chances
With Smith, I always believed he was ready to drop a bridge on a motherfucker
To me it always seemed like Tenant's Doctor was rarely being pushed. Everything was so easy for him that the only reason a bad guy's plan went anywhere was because he was either ignoring it or letting it happen with barely a moment's concern for all the collateral human damage. Then he'd save the day with the wave of his hand at the end and all was well. It was boring at times.
Now of course there were great episodes too and I still love his run, I just felt the drama and suspense much more during Smith's first 2 or 3 seasons where the emotional swings came more frequently.
I think Blink really doesn't hold up well. When you already know about the Angels (and it's impossible not to these days), the adventures of Hot Girl and Scruffy Guy are not very compelling. And the ending is one of the most irritating Moffatisms in the whole series.

Thats hardly a good reason to down it. 'doesn't hold up well' could easily describe how you feel about the Dalek today compared to the first time you saw it from behind the couch. Blink holds up extremely well if its your introduction to Dr. Who. Sure its going to lose a lot if you already know what your seeing. When i want to show someone Dr. Who for the first time i play Blink...then Girl in the fireplace (especially if its a woman).

Wait what do you mean by Moffatism here
Sally falling in love with Scruffy Guy so they can run a shitty DVD shop together for no apparent reason (and that weird thing about how wondering what the hell is going on with the moving statues and magical guy who seems to know everything is some kind of strange, dangerous obsession?) is a very good example of Moffat's talent for writing female characters. I don't hate the episode or anything, I'm just saying that we spend an awful lot of time with two bland characters that I don't care about at all.

Not really. "Dalek" is still a great episode despite all the rubbish that came after it because of the emotional core of the story. Blink is largely reliant on the flash of the concept of the Angels and the narrative structure.
I knew what blink was when I saw it and I loved it.
like, i didn't live under a rock for the past five years, I knew what the angels were and I knew the conceit of the entire episode. it didn't change anything.
Blink was actually the first episode of Doctor Who that I saw and it was completely on accident. I was channel surfing and sort of stumbled on this girl walking through what I first expected as a haunted house.
But I have enough of a general understanding of what the show was that it was still enjoyable. I definitely appreciated it more when I sat down later to watch the entire series and then got to Blink.
Dr. Who has gone from a show that I was kind of interested in and amused by to something I'm like, avidly consuming each night. It took me by surprise when I realized about three seasons in how much I liked the show.

I don't mean the episode Dalek. I mean the first time the Dalek showed up on the old series. Today even old fans think its a pepperpot cleaning a toilet. But the first few times? awesomness.
I've never seen any confirmation but I feel like those were written for Tennant
Possibly, they were unsure if he was coming back initially (I believe Moffat actually wrote two versions of The Eleventh Hour), and the unbelievably hamfisted moralizing does fit 10 better. But I don't think he could have saved it from being a sub-par episode at best.
Ok so my review of the episode where smith rents a room is that it was pretty funny, like I usually think the shows are amusing but it's not making me laugh out loud a lot. I really liked Smith trying to be human and at least the first couple of times the intercom trap was pleasantly creepy.
My review of the Vincent episode was that I think it's my favorite "meet a famous person" episode.

(I love Rory)
Rory Williams is superior in one respect.
Let's be honest. Rory's great.
Why I fear the ocean.
Anyways Rory starts out pretty nothing but man he goes places.
Langly got any thoughts on the Space whale episode? Cause the ending with The Doctor saying he'll stop being the Doctor? Damn.

Is it because emotions?
Because
well
men have those too
As a man I can confirm that I am a robot and feel no emotions
I know you are

Made of metal... dials... placed on top of a map... blinky red lights...
You're right.
It's just like a penis.
Shape's a bit off, though.

and oddly enough they are always brought up, waters of mars, blink and... i'm sure there's another one

Then I feel I'll be able to legitimately complain of the modern arrangement of the theme tune

the thing that happens at the end of those is pretty specific to Eleven's Companions and their story though
That is so easily tacked on to any episode though
The Doc's attitude toward the humans in that story is very much Ten

Some of my favorite Doctor Who episodes are coming up
