I had a good time maxing everything out. I won't spoil the ending, as the storyline is actually moderately engaging, but man does that game go into some weird, disagreeable places in its final moments.

I'd better see you guys with Rise of the Triad online tonight. Our matches of death will be glorious.
For those that are curious it's the same Rise of the Triad we knew and loved way back when, just with modern graphics and controls. Everything else is the same. Everything.

I've been doing this PC gaming thing for a while and rise of the triad never once came up on my radar. Cult classic or some such thing?
It was going to be a new Castle Wolfenstein licensed through Apogee but the deal fell apart. Apogee just threw together some crap about a cult, removed all of the Nazi stuff and replaced it with new not-swastika triangle thing and Rise of the Triad was born.
Some things that make Rise of the Triad the silly cult classic it is today-
Dog Mode: Power up that turns you into an invincible dog of death.
God Mode: Turn into an invulnerable glowing super deity of death. Also features the best sound effects ever.
Mushroom Mode: Taste the rainbow.
50 hojillion different kinds of rocket launcher.
Secrets out the butt.
More secrets.
Eyeballs.
If you are sick of stories, linear levels, NPC companions, reloading your guns, only having one kind of rocket launcher, sanity, good taste, RPG mechanics in your shooter, realism, reality, sanity, reality, sanity, good taste, sanity, reality, sanity and the last bit of decency left in the world then you might appreciate this thing.
That's perfect. That's exactly what I was hoping for. I'll make sure those games are all installed before the trip. I hope Xcom works. It's my work computer which, while it is pretty new, they weren't exactly planning on it being a gaming powerhouse so I can't play anything too resource intensive (although that won't stop me from trying :winky: )
You bet, E.G.
I was just literally this morning daydreaming while walking the dog about entering the next Tube name change contest to try to go from "Iolo" to "iolo." I'm too scared to become "[Tube's Malevolent Imagination]" instead though. (Maybe there will be a contest to decide to change the forum to a serif font instead. )
EDIT: Did I say malevolent? I meant magnificent, of course....

So batshit fucking crazy.
I am so glad it didn't end up sucking.
I remember playing ROTT with my cousin over dial up back in the day. It'd drive my Dad wild as we'd be dialling each other constantly to get a connection going, every time the phone would ring he'd try and answer...every time I'd scream down the stairs "NOOO!!! IT'S RINGING BECAUSE OF OUR GAAAAME...DON'T PICK UP"
Then halfway through a game he'd often forget we were playing and try and make a call...'Connection Lost'...

Steam support continues to completely ignore all communication from a customer who has spent many hundreds of dollars in their store and just wants to give them more money.
As someone who has worked in retail and/or customer service in one way or another for over 20 years, this does not make sense to me.
/sigh
Sorry for going on about this. If I don't vent somewhere, someone will die a messy death. You're saving lives here.
You should go fishing.
Hey! I'm going fishing with the family for an extended weekend at June Lake from Saturday-Tuesday! I can pass on pics of the beautiful landscape and such, and will be sure to mail @Luchaire an actual fish if she'd like! I'll wrap it in newspaper and such, should be fine.
I sincerely doubt that the "do whatever interests you" policy really applies to tech support. Just like it doesn't apply to the folks who do building maintenance, security, and cleaning. They advertise that because it sounds better than "do whatever interests you as long as we decide you can be that kind of employee."
So on the flip side of Quake discussions - I've been looking at maybe some cheap ways to squeeze a bit more power out of my system. My PC is built from other's leftovers, but I haven't hit a game I can't play yet. I have a Q6600 CPU, 4 GB Ram, and a GTS250 video card.
My first thought is to overclock the CPU a bit, I see a lot of folks going to 3.0ghz safely. But my second thought is that maybe there are cheap video card options out there I should look into since mine is probably a few years old and if I don't need the bleeding edge there might be something cheap out there. Any thoughts on video cards?
I hope no one minds me bumping this for the evening crowd but any ideas on a non 400 dollar video card that might still be an update for me?

Like mid 90s awhile?
I remember it being a pretty big deal when it came out. I think it was between Duke Nukem 3D and Quake.
Steam Support is the worst. Seriously, the worst
Late 90s maybe? I mean I was there for Starcraft and rushed home to play unreal tournament on the regular.

It had its charms and we didn't know any better...
Anyone got a 4-pack going on ROTT?
Heretic had an item that let you turn enemies (or other players) into Chickens
Since the stars aligned and I actually have access to my laptop and internet at the same time, thought I'd repost.

Interesting.
5 days, no response from Steam support.
Email the Newell at 12PM EST (give or take).
Response from support received within 3 hours.
Coincidence?
Could be.
Still not resolved, but progress!

and mucho thanks to @vegan for Tomb Raider
Awesome and classy!
This is why the saying goes "serve the Newell" not "serve the multi-billion dollar company"
I'm sure the Half Life 3 dev team will get around to taking their turn soon enough. Still, the Ricochet guys don't really have anything else to do.
