That was a strange choice. If you stayed next to me our life total would still be equal.

I've actually been having fun with Khadath lately. I'd be having even more fun if the game let you reference character abilities during a match or would stop crashing all the goddamn time.

Also the AI is pretty bad. Like, why would you deliberately move onto my gate trap? So dumb. I'll probably get slaughtered the first time I play an actual human.

Okay, I'm back. Sadly Devastation wasn't there, apparently there was a printing error and it didn't make it in time. Picked up both of the Pixel Tactics games, though.

    So... beat 5?

If Im adding correctly I still hit him if I move two back?

    So move two back.

  • Options
    PMAversPMAvers Registered User regular
Right, you'll be at either range 3 or 4 from each other, depending on how you move.

So retreat 2, so Kallistar is against the left wall.

Range: 2~4, which Cadenza is in, so the attack hits.
Damage: 5 Power minus 3 Soak equals 2 Damage.
    Cadenza is at 16 Life.
2 Damage < Stun Immune, so Cadenza is not stunned.

    Reactive Player's Attack:

Range: 1~4, which Kallistar is within, so the Clockwork Shot hits.
    Damage: 6 Power minus 0 Soak = 6 Damage.
Kallistar is at 11 Life, and would be stunned if it mattered.

    End of Beat: No effects.

    End of Beat 5 Status:

What happens if you back up into a wall? You just stop?

Yeah, unless you have a arena up that has a special effect when it happens. Like the airship arena where you fall off.

Start of Beat: Cadenza backs up to the right wall.

    Active Player's Attack:

    Start of Activation: No effects.
Range: 1~4, which Cadenza is out of (currently at Range 6), so the Caustic Shot misses.
    End of Activation: No effects.

    Reactive Player's Attack:
    Start of Activation: No effects.
Range: 4~7, which Range 6 falls into, so the Grapnel Burst Hits.
On Hit: Kallistar is pulled up to three spaces. How far do you want to pull her, @Farangu ?
hue hue hue the end of man is here.
Damage: 3 Power minus 0 Soak equals 3 Damage.
Kallistar is at 8 Life, and is stunned since 3 Damage > 2 Stun Guard.

Yeah. I don't know if Vyolynce was putting as much thought into the last few turns of our match as I was, but I was seriously running through a mental checklist: "Okay, what's his highest possible priority? How can I beat that? How badly can I hurt him? Can I avoid him some other way?"

Most certainly. In my few plays, I found that Eligor requires a TON of analysis to be effective. He is almost always going to be the reactive player, so how much Stun Guard/Soak do I need to even hit? Am I going to get those tokens back? Do I need to Dash this turn to avoid taking a nasty hit? What are the odds that you're going to actually be in range of my move – which is the percentage that cost me our match when I had the opportunity to go for my Overdrive and didn't take it.

And let's not even get started on the "wine in front of me" game that is having access to the Counter style. That is such a blowout when it works.

    Beat 7:

    Ante:
Kallistar is still in Elemental Form, so she loses 1 life but gains +2 Power and Priority.
    Kallistar is at 7 Life.
    No ante from Cadenza.

    Cadenza reveals Hydraulic Dash.
    Hydraulic: +0 Range, +2 Power, -1 Priority.
Soak 1. Before Activating: Advance 1 space.

    Dash: N/A Range, N/A Power, Priority 9.
This attack does not hit or deal damage.
After activating: Move 1, 2, or 3 spaces. If you changed sides with an opponent during this movement, that opponent cannot hit you during this beat.
    Total: N/A Range, N/A Power, 8 Priority.

    Kallistar reveals Ignition Spellbolt.
    Ignition: +0 Range +1 Power -1 Priority.
Reveal, Elemental Form: This attack has +3 power, and Kallistar loses 3 life points (she cannot be reduced below 1 by this loss).
End of Beat, Human Form: Kallistar enters Elemental Form.

    Spellbolt: 2~6 Range, 2 Power 2 Priority.
On Hit: Move the opponent 1 or 2 spaces.

Reveal: Kallistar's attack gains +3 power but loses 3 life.
    Kallistar is at 4 life.

    Total: 2~6 Range, 2+2+3+1= 8 Power, 2+2-1=3 Priority.

Cadenza is the Active Player, Kallistar is the Reactive Player.

    Start of Beat: No effects.

    Active Player's Attack:

Before Activating: Cadenza advances up one space to the right starting spot.
    Dash, so no attack.
After Activating: Dash movement, and it needs to move 1-3 spaces. I'm assuming it's going to advance 3 to switch sides with Kallistar to trigger Dash, but I'll leave that up to @Farangu in case he has a cunning plan.

But you still needed the 4th to activate the "missed me!" effect.

Cadenza dashes to the left starting space, triggering Dash's "can't be hit" effect.

    Reactive Player's Attack:
    Start of Activation: No effects.

    Beat 8:
Cadenza antes a token, gaining Stun Immune.
    He has 1/3 tokens remaining.
Kallistar is still in Elemental Form, and so gains +2 Power and Priority again, but loses 1 life.
    Kallisar is at 3 life.

    Cadenza reveals Clockwork Shot.

    Clockwork: +0 Range, +3 Power, -3 Priority.
    Soak 3.

    Shot: 1~4 Range, 3 Power, 2 Priority.
    Stun Guard 2.

    Total: 1~4 Range, 6 Power, -1 Priority.

    Kallistar reveals Flare Grasp.

    Flare: +0 Range +3 Power +0 Priority.
Start of Beat, Human Form: Kallistar loses 2 life.
End of Beat, Elemental Form: Kallistar returns to Human Form.

    Grasp: 1 Range, 2 Power, 5 Priority.
On Hit: Move the opponent 1 space.

    Total: 1 Range, 3+2+2=7 Power, 5+2=7 Priority.

Kallistar is the active player, Cadenza is the Reactive Player.

    Start of Beat: No effects.

    Active Player's Attack:

Range: 1, which Cadenza is totally in.
Damage: 7 Power minus 3 Soak equals 4 Damage.
    Cadenza is at 12 Life.
Stun Immune > 4 Damage, and so Cadenza is not stunned.
On Hit: Kallistar can move the opponent one space... but wherever she moves him, it's not going to matter, because...

    Reactive Player's attack:

Range: 1~4, which Kallistar would be in no matter where she moved it.
Damage: 6 Power minus 0 Soak equals 6 damage.
    Kallistar is at -3 Life.

    KO!

Yeah id didnt bother dashing because it only would have extended things by a turn. I didnt seem myself winning with so few life points. I used ignition on the spellbolt because the bleed was supposed to set me up to use my finisher and when he dashed out of that I was pretty much fucked.

Thanks for hosting avers! Ive always wanted to try the game and I am quite pleased that the strategy was deeper than what I expected. I guess if you pick a charecter you dont like or end up in a disadvantaged matchup you are pretty much fucked though.

I think I played well. Im not sure as I have nothing to compare it to. I spent some time making sure I picked the best pairs in a given situation and would generally think I was being quite clever...until pairs were revealed and farangu managed to shut me down at every possible turn.

I hope my comments didnt come off as dickish. I was a bit frusterated but I had a lot of fun. Good game Farangu and I will be rooting against you from here on out :P

That said of course I would like to Quarter up! at the back of the line.

Yeah, I think your best bet would've involved getting him to 7 health, and then bursting it for 10 damage with the finisher. Most Soak he can have at a time is 3, and that would straight-up killed it. Actually getting there would be tricky, since Farangu is slippery.

If I've been maintaining the line correctly, @Kirindal is next on stage.

EDIT: Devastation news, apparently the printer had misprojected just how much stuff (hint: there's a lot) was in the Devastation box, and it took them longer than expected to actually print all the cards, and the boxes are being packed and shipped out to Lvl99 now. Supposedly they're going to be arriving there next week, and should hopefully be arriving to backers by mid-September.

Is it wrong that I'm really tempted to host the next game using the Beta Bases from Flight 4?

If just to see how a match plays out with no Dash. The equivalent is either Spike (which causes a can't be hit effect as a On Hit, and still does damage) or Parry (where the opponent can't hit you if your attack's priority is even and theirs is odd, or vice versa).
