Out of curiosity, what's great about the M40/.338? Don't doubt you. I'm just illiterate with the snipers.
And I do want to unlock more snipers, and I've unlocked all the carbines I want.
The M40 is just a bazillion times better than the first rifle you get, the rounds travel faster and flatter. The .338 recon was the first one that reliably got one hit kills though the JNG isn't that bad.
Mine just flashes a notification in the upper right - nothing pauses.
There's gotta be a way to turn it off but I get an almost full screen text box asking me if I want to join this game that requires me to either hit yes or no. It once happened right as I was hitting A to respawn and it yanked me out of the game I was in to the main menu because I didn't have the content. I can't figure it out.
I'm on Xbox one though so I guess its just a console thing?
Dawn breaker is just a sniper hell hole, if they put more elevators on the maps so each building's roof could be accessed, I wouldn't mind it since you could try to flank them from another roof. But instead you get 2-3 roof tops you can access with out a helicopter and completely incompetent heli-pilots who never try and wipe out the sniper nest on the ones you can't access. I would pay for the ability to have squad points that allow the squad leader to spawn a transport chopper for the squad only so organized groups can stop dealing with Capt. Smacky the upside down heli pilot.
Rogue transmission is a map that has the "too many vehicles in too small a space" problem that Dawn breaker can sometimes have if one team has no competent engineers. Its also an annoying sniper fest on the hills with little decent cover moving between points, even underground feels a bit too open and its just luck you make it from one point to another on foot.

Pretty much everything for Battlefield 4 is controlled through Battlelog and thusly through your browser. If you lose internet, Battlelog loses its connection, and in essence so does Battlefield 4, which includes the campaign.

I haven't played this in a couple of weeks but I had some great games tonight. I love Domination, it is so frenzied but not out of control. I also unlocked the mortar! And I haven't had much opportunity to use it. I think I will switch to Recon with a carbine and grind for the MAV during this xp event.

2 buddies of mine found a 2 person rush server with 30 second game times. So every minute they would get a win worth 1,500 points (then multiply it by your boosts), a rush ribbon, mvp ribbon and ace squad ribbon.

Honestly XP doesn't mean anything to me. Both support and engi are maxed, and weapon unlocks are based on kills.
So damn true. Leveling and unlocking sniper rifles is infuriating. You pretty much seem to have to tag the upper 1/2 of their head in order to get a 1 hit kill. It's too damn hard to really shoot effectively.

Hell I nearly exclusively play Recon and fuck sniping. Medium range sniper is where it's at. 3.4x with canted ironsights, pistol if you miss your shot (or pistol to finish off if you missed their head). I just really do not like automatic weapons in any shooter, really. I much prefer semi-auto or bolt weapons in pretty much every shooter I play. Shotguns are ok I guess.

Huh, it says China Rising is unlocking at 6:00PM Central today instead of 12:00 AM tomorrow.
DICE doesn't allow funky rules for Official servers because it would be incredibly annoying for someone trying to get into a quick-match, unknowingly end up in a knives only server, and then get kicked because he/she fired a weapon.
Not only is Below radar not in but a hit from a stinger/igla/aa/jet/boat missile will cause a 100% chance for mobility hit. Igla/Passive radar missiles will ignore flares as you can just reacquire the lock on the chopper, jets and other choppers can ignore ECM/Flares by shotgunning at 160m or less and regardless of how fast you pop the flares or ecm they will still hit.
Maps like Zavod the AA can sit in spawn and hit the other choppers with active radar missiles as they take off from their spawn, passive radar can hit from spawn to spawn in the small version or on the large version about at the E point or about just a bit past B. Most maps lack any sort of vertical cover for choppers, on Dawnbreaker the one map that actually might be good for choppers buildings are bugged so you can lock on to vehicles through them.
Oh and choppers cannot fly fast enough to be out of range of a stinger or igla, once you're locked you are basically SOL. You get one set of flares or ECM and most people have figured out that choppers are free points so run engineer with a stinger or igla.
The beautiful thing about the IGLA is that you can double hit with them if you can keep the chopper in view long enough. Lock on, fire, then reload right away before the missile hits. Lock again, fire, and keep lock. The first missile will re-acquire and both will hit.

So, with this being on sale and all right now and me having recently bought a new GPU I have a couple questions:
1. How is performance in relation to BF3? I can run BF3 smoothly with everything maxed on my new GPU, will I be able to do the same in 4?
2. I am aware that the following statement is likely sacrilegious but I vastly preferred the gameplay in the Close Quarters addon for 3. Is there anything like that here, now or in the future?
1) BF4 runs extremely well, but there are some technical "glitches" as you have probably read previously in this thread. I'd say most of us are running it fairly well at this point with periodic crashes. Hopefully tomorrow's patch helps fix many of these and more for those who are having worse issues.
2) Domination is probably what you're looking for. Smaller maps, contested areas, faster paced without vehicles.

I would be careful. There have already been people posting on BF4 forums about having their stat resets for playing on flag run, knife-only, and knife/pistol-only servers. The ToS for running a ranked server says admins are not allowed to introduce kit selection or equipment restrictions. There are people who will join those servers specifically to get kicked for using a normal weapon so they can report the server for a ToS violation.
My guess is you'll only draw a stat reset if it is excessive amounts of play, but who knows what the magic number is.

SOFLAM will auto-spot / laser designate anything that comes within it's sight cone. So you can just plop it down facing an area and go off to do other things.
