Does anyone else think Gabe looks like he is turning into a muppet in panel 2? That is what I thought of when I first saw it, with the mouth that stretches all the way across the front of his face...
Looks like it's also maybe set in Victorian England or something, so there's maybe at least kind of an excuse. Judging by that center card in the pic Mike tweeted. Not sure if that's representative of the entire game.
Dive into the Victorian era and play, as a team, a stylish lady and gentleman. The victorious team is the one whose lady is the most elegant at the end of the game. Each gentleman will gain money from the Stock Market by making sales and fulfilling contracts while his lady will fill her wardrobe with the most gorgeous dresses by getting the most fashionable items from the various stores in the game.

Yeah, it's pretty much taking the piss out of the entire concept the entire game. Especially since the Ladies' half of the game is more complex and cutthroat.

I know people hate on Mike sometimes but I don't know why.
He said some dumb things on twitter. Which he repeatedly apologized for and even more importantly, opened up lines of honest communication to learn why what he said was dumb. But for some people it will never be enough, no matter what PA does. Pretty much a natural outgrowth of growing so big.
Anyway, I like this comic. Especially the panel 2 face.
Having seen the SU&SD ep on this game already made what would have been a bewildering comic into a rather amusing one. Although the SU&SD presentation basically made these jokes already.
If your icky sensor is being tickled by the concept of the game, watch the episode. I don't think this is a harmful game.

The problem with Mike and Jerry on certain topics is that their apologies tend to be a bit on the "I wasn't really wrong, but I'm apologizing because apparently you people need that." side. I think they're getting a little better (baby steps), but when people are angry at them even after their "apologies", it's not quite as one sided and unfair against the boys as some people would like to believe.
I'm glad someone else posted this video explaining the game, because it actually sounds like a delightfully subversive blow against the idea of traditional gender roles.

Linking this again for you who think this is somehow a misogynistic board game, it should explain it sufficiently.
Not much use really. Just because a person is part of a minority does not make them open minded. There are a lot of people who dismiss something based on surface appearances and will refuse to see the underlying truth. Sometimes those people are women claiming something is misogynistic when it is not if you actually understand it. Many times those people are tossing around the word but don't actually understand what it means. A lot of people who like to toss around the misogynistic label think it just means anything that does not show women in a positive light, or does not show women in the most positive light possible.
A comic fails if it requires a video or a related blog post to explain it.
Not the first PA comic to "fail" on this basis, nor will it be the last. But never fear, next Monday they will take another crack at measuring up to your standards.
I look forward to it and hope they can meet my simple standards: make me laugh or comment on something relevant. If it met your standards, that's all well and good. They can't please everyone, but every comic this week has been a big swing-and-a-miss for me.

There's a huge portion of gaming related comics that are going to really only be truly funny to people who have played the relevant game or know what the comic is referencing.
A comic fails if it requires a video or a related blog post to explain it.
A comic considered by many to be in the genre of "gamer comic", as in, comics that reference games, fails if the joke rests on references to games...Gotcha.
Anyone who has played L&G (which I have not) will certainly get this comic. Many who have not still got the comic--but even if they didn't--a Pokemon comic often only makes sense to those who have played (or are familiar with) Pokemon. Granted, that means everybody, but you get the idea. Referential comics are fine.
I've been trying to resist getting Ladies and Gentlemen for awhile, after seeing the SUSD review. I don't know if I can hold out much longer now.
I was playing a different game at the time, but I can say their focus was intense and laughter hysterical. They all immediately said it was a game they wanted to play again.

I didn't say anything about the fact that a reference to games is a fail. These comics should inherently reference games...that's obvious. They should either tap into a collective gaming consciousness or use the comic to both tell a joke and make sure that joke is understood. This one does in fact reference a game - a game that very few people play with relatively unknown rules to the vast majority of the PA audience, unless you happen to read the accompanying blog post or watch a video going over the intricacies of said game.
Whatever; if I have to say "it fails for me" and qualify that in front of everything, fine. I'm not going to do it, but fine. I'm sure the 5 people in the world who play L&G are laughing their asses off right now, whereas the millions of Pokemon players, to use your example, with no L&G experience are slightly puzzled. I don't think they need to kowtow to the masses or only make references to "big" games in their comics. If the comic is funny and the intricacies can easily be picked up from 3 panels, go for it. But I think most people are kidding themselves if they got a full understanding of this comic purely from reading just the comic. You can kind of get an inkling as to what's going on ("haha, Gabe and Tycho are women and the other players have to buy them clothes...how funny! Man, they are really into this gender-bending, pretty misogynistic-sounding game"). But that's barely scratching the surface of what the joke is about and it doesn't really translate well.
If ya'll liked it, good on you.

I knew nothing about this game before reading the comic and it still gave me a chuckle. The concept of two men (possibly bearded) acting out 'traditional' gender roles is such obvious bit of social satire that it requires no further explanation.
But it also sounds like the game is pretty self aware and well done, so good for it

Also, that sounds like a silly game.
Which only enhances the embarrassment of getting such a hideous cloak.
Even though I think it's a commentary on the stupidity of the game, it just doesn't go over that well.
