Okay, when I joked about putting steam on a classroom computer many years ago and we debated the obvious problem, I did not expect a steam solution.

What does everyone think of Prison Architect?

I've had some fun with it. It's still rough around the edges (some prisoners/workers can get stuck in corners around entrances), and it's obviously missing stuff (it's still Early Access.) Still, it's a fun "Tycoon" game; the first where I've had someone dig a tunnel through the toilet to reach freedom.

If you're willing to put up with the promise of "it'll get better later!", and the idea of building a jail where you have to make sure the people inside don't kill themselves, escape or otherwise ruin your installations, then go for it!

Yeah, pretty much. I had a lot of fun building my first prison but eventually it got to the point where I was encountering a couple of bugs, so I stopped and planned on playing it more later. I like the idea of Early Access but it's not for me, I've got way too many games on my backlog to bother with betas, demos or unfinished games.

So after originally getting Skyrim on ps3 and getting annoyed with the problems it had and how it wasn't getting the DLC at the time, I ended up getting the 360 version and all the DLC there. Because I've since seen the light and become a PC gamer I just got the legendary edition on steam so I could mod it and just have it on a system so it won't be obsolete it two years (well the PC might, but not steam)...at this point I'm not sure if I'm serving the Newell of Bethesda more...

I was just about to shut down my computer and go to bed when I get a Steam pop-up:

Having been in middle school and high school for most of the 90's, I'm worried what kind of memories this is going to bring back, but it definitely looks really cool.

    Thank you, bro!

Out at dinner, but I too got a feelsagram from @HeirTranparent. I was just thinking of Gone Home thanks to grandma Torgue's rant.

@Firebird how many copies did you send me?

I dunno, I think Steam glitched out on me and now I got 4 copies for the price of 1! XD
But then again, it's so damn cheap I really wouldn't know from looking at my wallet....

EDIT: It seems I got confused, I really need confirmation on who I send gifts to. I just give them out randomly without thinking.

So I was looking over a few friends' wishlists. Of course I'm keeping an eye out for things that are on a 90% sale, but I'm also looking for games I might be interested in since most of my friends have good taste.

I come across the wishlist of @urahonky and he's got a game on there, Sword of the Starts: The Pit, that looks absolutely terrible. Being dirt cheap, the only possible course of action was to buy it for him then laugh at his poor choice. The weird bit was that I tried to send it over Steam, he wasn't marked as having it in his wishlist. So I cancel out of the transaction, check his wishlist again, and it's gone.

He messages me after getting some *slightly* less terrible dirt cheap game and I have to ask what happened to The Pit. He says he didn't buy it and neglects to say if he deleted it from his wishlist. He knows I think the game is terrible and that I think less of him as a person for having it on his wishlist, so what does he do? That wanker turns around and buys it for me!

So thank you, but you are a bastard.

So, we have a couple of folks who think they can out-do the Nerd...

First @HiT BiT brings us this oddly poetic Nerd-ism:
"I'd rather stick a 5 feet umbrella in my asshole (and then open it) than play this putrid-abortion-of-the-primal- diarrhoea -game!"
Fun fact: Putrid Abortion of the Primal Diarrhea is the name of my G. G. Allin cover band.

Meanwhile, @SkutSkut drops quite a few Nerd references:
"This GAME'S shittier than Shit Pickle trapped in some bullshit! I'd rather play through the whole LJN library than play this cacadoodie horseshit GAME!!"

And you know what? I can't decide, and the game's on sale right now, so you're BOTH getting the AVGN game!

    YOU get a game!

    And YOU get a game!

    EVERYBODY* gets a game!

You guys will have friend requests shortly. I suggest you accept them.

I'm not really going to defend The Pit but I think it at least rises above the status of terrible. I'm a big fan of rogue-likes (even this kind that has you and enemies moving a tile at a time in turns), but I ultimately found the game too boring to bother finishing.

You're always a little low on health and ammo, but you always come across enough to keep you plodding along. Attempting to craft anything is a complete waste of time, as blueprints are rare and any crafting items not ending up as a new item are destroyed. Even repairing items runs this risk - I attempted to repair my main assault rifle and it dissolved in my hands, apparently.

I didn't come across an enemy that I couldn't kill with a little bit of dancing and the odd grenade and the levels felt too rinse and repeat. If you're interested in this genre, I'd lean more towards Dungeons of Dredmore which is 50% off at the moment. Choosing a random set of skills at the start of each run makes it much more interesting than deciding whether you're going to specialise in either electronics or lockpicking this round.

I beat all the difficulty levels of Super Hexagon on iPhone (one of the few gaming achievements I'm genuinely proud of), and it is definitely worth whatever they're charging for it here. It's basically the best way to explore the limits of your brain. You can literally feel yourself straining at the edges of your capability when you push into the harder difficulties.

'Ello, Steam thread. I've kind of sat out the last couple of sales, classiness-wise, but I am hoping to get back into the reindeer games at least a little this year. To get some momentum going...

Sleeping Dogs Giveaway: Favorite Flicks Featuring Hong Kong Head-kicks
    Sleeping_Dogs_-_Square_Enix_video_game_cover.jpg

Sleeping Dogs is a fun game. Maybe even fun enough that someday I will actually finish it. Probably not, and even less probably if I start hanging out with your crazy enabling fucks again, but that's no reflection on the game once known as True Crime: Hong Kong.

Anyway, I've got an extra copy of this open-world police pot-boiler, and I could just throw it up on Steamgifts as a group giveaway, but I'd like to get a little more for the $5 I just spent on it than the mere joy of giving. Specifically, I'd like to get some entertainment, and in the past, my giveaways where I asked for a little thought and creativity on the part of the entrants, like we used to do back before the revolutionary Steamgifts.com enabled greater laziness through convenience (which encapsulates the entire story of the progress of human civilization), were quite entertaining. So we're doing this old school.

Send me a PM and tell me what your favorite Hong Kong action movie is, and why. Police thrillers, triad political drama, shoot-em-up "heroic bloodshed," kung fu flicks, it's all in bounds, but make a good case for your pick: make me want to see this movie. Bonus points for telling me about one I haven't heard of before. If you can't think of any Hong Kong action movies, then I must gently suggest that this contest is not for you, and this game probably isn't either.

I'll take submissions until...let's say 11:59pm Eastern time on Friday night, and pick a winner then or whenever I wake up on Saturday.

Here's something random - Off-Road Drive. Yep, you read that right, it's a driving game, not a racing game.

It looks like that Spintires game that was on kickstarter not too long ago, where it's more about tackling the elements and enjoying the journey than doing it in the fastest time. It's an oft-ignored sub-genre I reckon, and now that it's at a much more reasonable $7 with an 80% discount, I might just give it a shot.

Well, I try to look at it this way: I figure I have enough of a backlog on Steam to last me for a very long time without adding an MMO to the mix. It's just one less unfinishable game in my account.

Well, it's been down to $2.49 a couple of times before.

If you really can't find anybody who doesn't have it, throw it up in an open Steamgifts.com giveaway. There are always takers for free stuff on there.
