One thing that must be said about the title, is that the game looks and sounds great. The environments and characters have this uniquely drawn look to them, which makes them adorable to look at. There are moments when it all looks like a painting in motion. The 3D effect helps bring all of this to life, as it gives the dynamic camera angles and details more legs to stand upon. The music adds even more to the experience.
Bravely Default is a reminder of why the Nintendo 3DS was so strong this year. Various gameplay elements have never been this balanced before, and the story will keep you interested for many hours to come. The same goes for the presentation, which shows how lush and endearing games can truly be on the system. As a farewell to 2013, Nintendo of Europe couldn't have picked a better title. Not only because of quality, but also because it will last you for the remainder of December.
Summary
Pros
Brilliantly connected with StreetPass and online
Enjoyable Norende restoration sidequest
Lush and strong presentation
Plot that never stops being intriguing
Trifecta of interesting gameplay elements
Bravely Default is also a pretty beefy game, with a ton of content and a lengthy narrative. With the difficulty options, you can make this game as easy or as hard as you want, which should please those who believe they don’t have time to play RPGs any more. I count myself as one of those people, and I haven’t been able to enjoy a game of this genre in years, until this one.
VERDICT: It’s a brave (geddit?) move on Square-Enix’s part to not stamp Bravely Default with a more popular title, because ironically, Bravely Default is one of the best Final Fantasies in years. Taking the very best of 8/16-bit entries of the series, and bringing them up to date with some beautiful graphics, clever features and engaging gameplay, this is a must for someone looking for a more traditional JRPG. On a system that has been lacking some meaty RPG action, this is a superb combination of old school gameplay with modern day additions that makes for an adventure you don’t want to miss.
The German review says this, by the way:
"Bravely Default is one of the best, if not the best JRPG on the Nintendo 3DS - and I dare say one of the best games of its kind to be released in recent years. If you're a fan of RPGs you can't miss this one and old school Final Fantasy fans should definitely take a look at it. Note: Don't be discouraged by the character's cutesy look - what you might not expect is that the game tackles issues such as loss, war and betrayal. The combat system doesn't get boring even after over 40 hours and Bravely Default will keep you busy for a long time. I'm already looking forward to a very likely sequel."
I had high expectations, and the demo blew me away. I also really like the friend system they got going. Ability link is mega handy.
Just one thing: BD is published by SE, but developed by Silicon Studio. Goddamnit, Square. YOU should be making the fuck awesome FF games, not someone else. What happened to you? /grumble

Published by SE in Japan. They didn't even want to bring it to the West. This is all by the grace of Nintendo.
I suspect the reason that they can't make a game of this quality themselves and their contempt for the western market both belong to the same school of thought.
I'm slowly building up my village's population by Streetpassing with my old 3DS. Currently I'm at 5 villagers, hopefully I'll get to 20 before the game's release, that should give me a nice head start on building the village in the full version.

I got 12, then stopped. 12 should be enough, I can always do more later. I believe the full version can streetpass with the demo.

To summarise the story in such a way is to do a massive injustice to the scriptwriters, though. The scope and emotional attachment achieved through the ever-unravelling story and constant character development is extremely impressive. The volume of VO has a dramatic affect on the feel of the game and is so good you'll sit through all of it, despite being able to skip through.
The audio is complemented perfectly by gorgeous, hand-drawn cityscapes. Different areas within the city are made to seem three-dimensional by clever use of parallax movement and layers. Leave your character alone for a few seconds and the camera will zoom out, like some kind of desperate gasp for air, until your character is but a dot. It's an impressive technique that has functional benefits, as well as looking awesome.
This is the road the Final Fantasy series should have taken; a refreshing new take on JRPG that will have fans of the genre giddy with excitement.
Well, I have to say that this is probably the first time that I really felt stung by betting on the US release schedule over staying 'native' with an EU/Aus console. Then again, I make out like a bandit with the lower game prices compared to sticking with Aus pricing.
Oh well, I've got more than enough on my plate to tide me over until the US release without going insane with hype and anticipation. I think.

Think of it like this: This very Friday, we will have Bravely Default and you will not.
But by the time you do get Bravely Default, we probably still won't have Shin Megami Tensei IV.
This looks so much better than 4HOL (which I thought was pretty bland and far too "old school" for a game that isn't old) that I'm amazed it's the same people.

Otherwise talented people only get better when they get some experience under their belts. (e.g. Persona, Witcher)
I've been told you can summon friends, as in real-life, streetpassers-by or strangers on the internet? Seems... unneccessary.
The game features a lot of unnecessary things to remove hassle and tedious grinding. Speed up combat, auto-combat, summon friends, that timestop thing, etc etc. I'm not complaining. You don't have to use them.
The real cool thing about summoning friends is the ability link system, which allows you to use abilities from the friend's character you're linking to. Saves you having to level up obscure classes, I wager.

I wonder if that still works in the full version.

I would've loved to have the soundtrack and art book but I'm not paying 100€ for it.
SE really needs a Sony-esque change of attitude.
Just get with the releasing of game.
Seriously.
Jokahs.
Anyways, I think/hope this might confirm the group getting an airship at some point. Or did we already know that?

Of 2015.
With a mysteriously game-crippling crash bug that didn't exist in the US version.
Anyway, preordered.

I watched some gameplay of 4HOL to get myself in the mood and, man, that game did not age well. Nostaliga overload though. Can't wait. Bring it!

Nah, as far as I know they're just for pretty visual effects, AR / 3D videos and stuff like that.
