It's worse. Some of the effects don't look as good because the GBA doesn't support them. The screen is also smaller so there are a few spots where you can't see the platform you're supposed to jump to, also Yoshi has a voice and his HNNNNNG sound effect.

    Still, it's Yoshi's Island.

It's the best version of Yoshi's Island on the market right now.

I'm more or less including Yoshi's New Island with that.

It's the best version of Yoshi's Island on the market right now.

That kind of distinction reminds me of those misleading TV ads for movies.

Indeed, which was largely the point. ;)

At the same time, though, it's also true... which is just terribly, terribly sad.

Did anyone else download Another World 20th Anniversary Edition? I just finished playing through it and man that brings back some memories. I loved this game back on SNES (it was Out of this World in the states). It's shorter than I remember but I still dig the mechanics. The gun has to be one of the coolest video game weapons ever.

Where was it said that this is the only one they'll release?

Unless you're suggesting it's because the others have the originals on VC already, but aren't they releasing Super Mario Bros. DX on the 3DS Virtual Console, which already has the NES version?

Damn, this is a pretty good update. For some reason, I thought Shovel Knight was coming to all platforms, but apparently it's a "console exclusive" for Nintendo? Guess I'll get it on 3DS. I still hate that Nintendo has no kind of cross-buy for VC (Hell, I'd settle for an upgrade charge like they do for Wii > WiiU), but I'm tempted to double-dip for Castlevania III.

I'm fine with double dipping for Shovel Knight. Yacht Club did fantastic work and I'm happy to give them more money. But I just wish I could move save data for it between my Wii U and my 3DS.

I've seen it said elsewhere, but it really does feel like a recently discovered classic from the NES era. Obviously the actual technical accomplishments are far beyond that time, but the mechanics and the presentation are just so perfectly ripped from the best that gaming had to offer back then, along with the smoothing of difficulty and modern conveniences that are often sorely missing in games from those days.

It's absolutely a combat oriented platformer when you get down to it, and nothing about it is particularly revelatory, so keep that in mind if you're on the fence. But what it does it absolutely does with the best of them. It really puts to shame a lot of the 'pixel' games that have been all over the place the last few years.

Very, very much keeping an eye on Yacht Club Games from here out.

As for system of choice, Wii U version plays great. I stuck exclusively to the gamepad, so I'm not sure what actually happens when you play it on the TV, but the controls feel perfect and the game looks great if you're working off-TV.
