Hello, and welcome to the world of Thedas!
Thedas is bounded to the east by the Amaranthine Ocean, to the west by the Tirashan and the Hunterhorn Mountains, to the south by the snowy wastes that lie beyond the Korcari Wilds, and to the north by the Donarks.
The word "Thedas" is Tevinter in origin, originally used to refer to lands that bordered the Imperium. As the Imperium lost its stranglehold on conquered nations, more and more lands became Thedas, until finally the name came to apply to the entire continent.
The northern part of Thedas is divided amongst the Anderfels, the Tevinter Imperium, Antiva, and Rivain, with the islands of Par Vollen and Seheron held by the Qunari just off the coast. Central Thedas consists of the vast stretch of city-states known as the Free Marches, as well as the nations of Nevarra and Orlais, with Ferelden to the southeast.
What lies beyond the snowy wastes of the south is a mystery. The freezing temperatures and barren land have kept even the most intrepid cartographers at bay. Similarly, the far western reaches of the Anderfels have never been fully explored, even by the Anders themselves. We do not know if the dry steppes are shadowed by mountains, or if they extend all the way to a nameless sea.
There must be other lands, continents, or islands, perhaps across the Amaranthine or north of Par Vollen, for the Qunari arrived in Thedas from somewhere, but beyond that deduction we know nothing. The idea that "the world" consists solely of the lands we know about will one day be disproved, and no doubt much to our collective dismay.

So what's going on with Thedas these days?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpEsgxlZqro
Oh. So Templars and Mages are at war, the Chantry is useless as always,
and the veil has been torn asunder, causing an invasion by demons. Filthy Qunari have also been spotted.
Uh-oh.
This seems like a job for a Bioware Protagonist!

Here, watch this awesome gameplay video, showing how combat, choices and strategy work:

As the Inquisitor, you lead the Inquisition tasked with finding the villain responsible for this whole torn veil business, and putting an end to all that nonsense. Also maybe stop literally every faction from killing each other in the meanwhile. You are a big leader, and the game will reflect this! You'll get a keep to manage and agents to send to their doom.
Most importantly, you'll get to wear fancy hats:
You'll also get to wear different races:

Here have some sweet concept art:

Let's not discuss katanas, the ME3 ending or other super off topic stuff because the mods sure didn't like that last time
Trevor Morris, of The Tudors, Vikings, and Immortals, amongst other things, has quietly been announced as doing the score, and unlike Clint Mansell, apparently he'll be doing the whole thing. http://n4g.com/news/1444519/trevor-morris-confirms-his-role-as-dragon-age-inquisition-composer

The slow trickle of news for the latter is killing me but I'm sure they're saving most of the stuff for E3.
They showed the conversation wheel when talking to a guard in that gameplay video.
There has been no confirmation of the sarcastic option being in DA:I, but considering it's one of the few things that was universally liked about DA2, I can't imagine they won't implement it again.
I think I saw one of the devs say that the canon/default class for the Inquisitor is a rogue, as the default was warrior for the Warden and mage for Hawke. All the more reason to keep the snark in.
Hmmm. That's odd. The whole Inquisition and being a big leader dude totally made me think of a warrior with swanky armor. Also I feel like everythign I've seen so far has shown a warrior.
I was thinking of going back to Rogue in this one anyway because being a sneaky dagger dude leading a military like force seemed silly and I like that.
But it still seems kinda weird!
In the trailers and concept art Hawke was often a mage. But yeah, you see them as the class you pick dude.
Picking a mage class completely changes the brother/sister dynamic though
Also, my Carver ended up as a Gray Warden, not a Templar. He was a cool Carver.
Have some concept art of a rogue Inquisitor!
I can't seem to find the comment anymore though, so take it with a grain of salt I guess
Inquisition Recruit: "Sire...sire! Dire news! A Templar encampment east of here is being ravaged by dragons!"
Me: "Fuck the humans."
IR: "Word."
Which...will be even funnier as a Qunari. Unless you start an one of their exiles or something.
And that is awesome.
But even there it looks like a rag-tag thieving crew or mercenary group. Which makes the Rogue make sense (to me).
Maybe I don't get what these "inquisitors" are and maybe the name is swaying me based upon every other time I've heard of an inquisitor in fantasy.
But that group is not what I picture of as "inquisitors"
Which is good! I hope my group can be like the odd group that all the others scoff at. We get our shit done but we don't care about all this military shit.
Given that task, I mean it would make sense for you to want to appear intimidating. But its a video game so I'm sure you'll be able to be the most feared goofball ever.
That said. Military might is only one part of it, in one of their interviews Bioware said that there would be diplomatic parts to being an Inquisitor also.
Sarcastic PC best diplomat.
Literally drop pallets of gold on thugs, crushing them flat.
Driving an entire sword through a table! Rude.
I'm all ready for some Dragon Age, though. Wonder how long it'll be before they reveal the rest of the crew? E: Come to think of it, I wonder how many people in that picture are crew beyond Varric and Cassandra.

Uh, wondering for a friend that is. Yeah, a friend.
Totally not me.
You're tearing me apart, Bioware!
The smaller daggers are dangerzones. He also seems to have established ground zero, and he is not happy about it

I really love what the Dragon Age universe does with magic, it's definitely been my favorite part of the series so far.
The class would be an after thought in most other RPGs for me but here it's a political and social shit storm of epic proportions.
According to concept art, a leaked survey, and the first trailer, there is a very shirtless Qunari who seems to be a party member. Tell your friend his name is The Iron Bull.

Sure is!
Looks like bro material to me

I could see the one behind the "Inquisitor" (between him and the hooded woman) being Vivienne without the Maleficent headdress.
...potentially. Granted I'm reaching, heck with the earrings she could be a stylized Isabella.
