Well, it's not necessarily surprising. The Kurds are the most organised, pro-wesetern, and valuable allies in Iraq, but are largely armed with 20-40 year old soviet weapons. ISIS, by comparison, has an army armed with all the latest US equipment, thanks to the Iraqi Army abandoning it wholesale in their retreat to Baghdad. Washington was put in a position of watching one of their best allies in the middle-east get steamrolled by American-provided Humvees or helping level the playing field directly.
eh, a number of the commentary i've seen recently has been saying that yes, the turkish goverment might not be exactly keen on kurdish independence, but that they like the idea of a strong kurdish state a WHOLE LOT more than the ISIS crazies at their front door. I haven't looked that up directly though.

I've visited the temple near Chicago a couple times, never heard of the religion before or after that but that place is gorgeous.
