I have gotten absolute shit for my crusader lately. Not even "turn this crap into souls" legendaries, just nothing. Then a socketed Azurewrath dropped...

Guess it's time to start leveling my wizard again!

that's why in hardcore you take, at minimum, two defensive abilities because you absolutely must be able to escape the dreaded frozen/waller/arcane/vortex pack.

Hardcore means trying to survive against lag, disconnects, rubberbanding, etc, instead of actually playing the game.

I'd rather not have to tailor skills and equipment to survive networking glitches.

You should probably tell your mom to stop picking up the phone while you play if this is how you really feel. Lag is a non-issue literally 99.9% of the time and comes with very clear warning signs when it becomes one. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about not wanting to play in a mode where death is a total loss. But blaming it on lag instead of personal choice is a pretty goose thing to do.

Or, you know... not everyone has awesome internet.

If i'm playing in anyone elses game its going to be 250ms, minimum... hell, even when i'm solo its still around 50ms which can spike.

Blaming people for something out of there control is a pretty goose thing to do... also, mom/parent 'basement' jokes, classic.

250ms is bad for you? I regularly play with like 400ish. I pretty much only get scared when the little lag meter drops to red at around~600ms. Lag I'd find intolerable in other games is somehow acceptable to me and de rigueur here.

Personally I'm more scared of my shitty computer than lag. I regularly have my framerate drop to single and low double digits. But Fetish-doctor makes shitty computer + shitty internet D3 quasi-possible! :D I'm not sure how I ever played anything else given how spiky my framerate is.

Losing characters and getting back to 70 sucks, but the thrill in those few seconds when you think you might lose a character? Can't be beat. The rush of surviving a tough situation has your heart pounding and your whole body on (figurative) fire. Perma-death adds a whole new, unique flavor to the diablo experience. Try it. You might like it.

I experienced this back when I played UO. That rush when you ran into a pack of pk's, the thrill of battle, the challenge of survival....and the agony of defeat. Nothing quite like it. I have fond memories of those moments. It was thrilling but it was also aggravating beyond belief.

Can't stomach that aggravation anymore. I assiduously avoid games and play modes that involve complete and total loss of items or character these days.

The item loss is definitely the gutpunch, the loss you're trying to avoid that makes the death mean something. Especially with RNG who knows if you ever get those legs back. You probably don't.

By contrast releveling a character to 70 often just feels aggravating. As much as level reduced gear and 10 times the dps you should have at a given level is fun--and it is, everyone should try it at least once--I've played the plot 8 trillion times and have run enough bounties such that low level adventuring on a hero I already know adds nothing to my life. Maybe if you could upgrade legendaries you found on the way as per TOGSolid's suggestion I wouldn't despise re-leveling so. But it just feels like a roadblock on the way back to the real game (which is the endgame). Without powerleveling I'd likely already not be playing this again, or at least not on HC.

I think my ideal HC mode is actually something like Diablo 1's, or a little harsher: Item loss but character sticks around. Or: a "make a new level 70" option for people who have lost a HC character at 70.

Procs don't trigger area damage. You can test your kill speed though against a single target like Ghom to get an idea how the proc damage compares.

Tried that, but I have a feeling I would need to kill a hundred Ghoms to get a proper picture. At the speed he dies the variance can be mostly because of my clumsy fingers being slower or faster on the stop watch, not because of a few % dps differences. Not to mention Odyn's proc hits 5 targets, Splitter hits just one. I did find a legendary on my way to him so it wasn't all a waste I guess ...

Run Ghom at T4+ so takes long enough to kill that it gives you an idea. Also I think that Odyn's Son proc will just all fire on a single target of there aren't others available unlike Thunderfury. That or it's procs are just more powerful.

For the person that can't decide on Odyn Son or Sky Splitter, if you're stacking lightning damage already, Odyn should win out because it's proc's damage scales with +% lightning damage unlike Sky Splitter.

On top of that, Odyn hits multiple targets and should have a higher proc rate.

I feel so stupid now - just a PSA if any other wizards have missed this, but sources actually have damage numbers and apparently my otherwise amazing lvl 65 Mirrorball wasn't so great after all when you account for that. +12% dps for switching to a rare, I guess I can live without twin magic missiles. 665k paperdoll damage and almost 10M toughness now, should make T2 a walk in the park.

I found the plans for the Golden Scourge yesterday! Hurray! Now all I need to do is get the Hilt of the Silver Wolf and I can try and make one, as I've got four grandfather flails ready to go.

I remember that I had seen that the HotSW drops from rare fallen hellhounds. So, I look up where to find some. I find information on two. Growlfang, in Arreat Crater 1, and Gnawbone, who spawns in Tower of the Cursed 1. Growlfang is even a potential bounty target! Great!

The only problem is that I played all day yesterday, and I never saw either hound. I would clear both locations and they were never there. At one point, I reloaded the game 20+ times just trying to get Growlfang's bounty. Nope.

I could handle finding them a couple of times and them not dropping the piece, that's RNG. But, I never even got the chance for the drop because they were never there. So annoying.

But the car didn't come with batteries. No problem, I tell myself, we've got plenty of batteries. But all the AA's are gone and all you can find are AAA's. Mom, why do we have so many AAA's? We don't have anything that run on AAA's! All the stores are closed so you can't get any until tomorrow, but you want to play with your new RC car now!

Question with maybe no real answer:

What is most effective for T3+? Monk Barb or Crusader?

I have only been playing my wiz - need some variety. I'm leaning towards Monk because they always seem to kick ass in games I've played, but I would be happy playing any of those three classes. I care more about which performs best in higher Torments. Or maybe - which is easiest to gear, isn't extremely dependent on specific drops.

There's a real answer and I'd currently stack them thusly:

    Wizard | WD
    Barbarian | Monk
    Demon Hunter
    Crusader

Before RoS dropped I spent a lot of time on monk to go from 100-330 or so para before RoS dropped. That was a build without 4th passive and without the plethora of great single target weapon procs that dropped in RoS, the basic concept of the build I was using would still work only better now, just have been interested in the new CDR stuff so haven't gotten back around to monk yet as most of my time is on Crusader.

The classes are primarily made or broken on the strength of their passives and passive DR.

Wizard is AR based which is superior to armor and has some of the strongest general application passives in the game without much penalty to using them. They have a lot of effective attacks with a well distributed variety of elemental selection. Medium APM needed.

WD is also AR based, has some more gimmicky passives, but now that pets can crit has some of the best low APM fire and forget techniques to quickly clear rooms. It's the only class I have close to zero experience on as I powered mine directly to 70 having never played it in vanilla or 2.0 but I was clearing T1 with speed in like an hour with all rares...had a nice TF drop only but I didn't even reroll it (came with a socket) It's not the TF making up for every other rare slot but the strength of the build and the class. Fire garg and piranado with the fetish passive and other supporting passives are pretty strong fire and forget room clears and legs will only improve them.

Barbarian is Armor based which, while inferior to AR, is still superior to Dex, and with the built in 30% has a strong set of passives for resource management with the huge advantage of little care needed for toughness. A workable elemental selection to build around. Higher APM needed for most builds until you get permanent CoTA at least.

Monk has so many good defense passives and active defenses on top of 30% DR, the single best scaling attack in the game in exploding palm, the easiest and best get out of jail free card in dashing strike which can be used in several ways. It's the best single movement skill in the game now IMO. Takes a defensive hit for being a dex class but has so many defensive options to integrate around that it doesn't matter. Plenty of lightning, some fire, and a few holy options. Higher APM OR very low APM needed especially if you're working with Exp Palm depending on your approach.

DH is still flimsy, dex based, and needs high APM for the usual styles but has been given some of the defensive integration it desperately needed in RoS, mainly in the form of smoke screen, tumble, and hot pursuit buffs. There exist good legendary combos but it needs to be very gimmicky to really destroy T6. Passives are still lackluster and they got a raw deal on new passives in RoS IMO. The new active is good. Their elemental split is ok but only a few good usable attacks hurt their diversity as they're mainly in fire and a frost arrow buff. Can also achieve a pet centric very low APM build now.

Crusader was in really bad shape at RoS release and has been thrown a bone since with 15% DR and a few skill damage buffs but still requires many specific legendary items to the point of a total gimmick whore (mainly from the much smaller effective 2H pool as well) to really become T6 capable or even what I consider T3 capable at a real farming speed (meaning you're doing it fast enough to actually get an RNG benefit over T2). Block is still hokey and the passives built around it are very hit and miss. Pigeonholed into HS and the movespeed penalty so you take a hit to your farming potential no matter what. A terrible elemental selection with many skills only having one element. Thorns cannot crit without short term buffs added into the mix. I have been experimenting with the survival benefits of 50%-100% block lately but you will always find me in a well rounded build when I'm not experimenting because I don't like to play glassy other than on DH and I have a certain threshold of gimmicky feeling builds that I avoid so I try for builds that work with most gear in general. I sort of hit a wall in T3 with crusader with that method and am moving up with on the combined strength of FoTF and Jekangbord now vs. some of my more generic legs but those are some legs that don't require you to wrap your whole build around it at least.

This is not to say that any character can't be made T6 capable but if you want the fastest paths there follow the ranking above. I wouldn't really recommend playing FOTM that way though and just play what you enjoy like most of these games.

I don't play for a straight power grab like most people but for reasons of Science and Roleplaying (Yes I play Diablo like Skyrim). I'm actually considering modding Skyrim with a Diablo style loot system, heh. I'll mess with a skill until I really know it backwards and forwards on most classes instead of jumping on FOTM builds from a streamer. I also design for lazy since long hours of farming mean that high APM builds really wear you out.

The crusader's blessed shield/shattered skill is horribly beneficially bugged with jekangbord.

Without Jekangbord, it normally hits 4 times just like glyph-less blessed shield with a tweak to make sure the extra bounces hit extra targets more efficiently. Instead of hitting targets in a line like chain lightning, it picks three nearby targets all from the main target. The bounce range is also roughly tripled. Sounds ok so far, other than the 50% thing on the tooltip never happens — the frags all hit as hard as the base shield.

The extra shields are set to bounce once. Jekangbord adds +4-6 bounces to each shield fragment. So, with a +4 Jekangbord, you hit 16 times instead of 4. It also doesn't seem like the additional shields obey the "only one target per shield" rule that blessed shield normally obeys, either, so if you've got four enemies you hit them each roughly four times per toss if the shields don't miss.

    it's pretty nuts

I swear I have better luck getting legendaries by just running bounties than I do by doing rifts

I got a ring of royal grandeur this morning that I think I'm going to save for use with arguhild's (sp) on my monk because it got a really tasty lightning resist roll, but I can't decide whether I should reroll the IAS or life on hit for crit chance (maybe neither?)

also while I wouldn't doubt that a DH can be made tier 6 'capable,' I'm not sure it would be very much fun. I can kind of solo T4 bounties now (haven't tried a rift), but I feel really fragile on that difficulty and things have a lot of health. My gear isn't ideal by any means but I don't feel like I have that much more room to add toughness or damage without taking the other down too far.

Found Tal's Belt last night, which gives me three pieces (Helm+Belt+Source). I didn't think much of it at the time, having just gotten Blackthorne's 4pc and Auggie's 3pc online. This morning I swapped some gear around and decided to see if I could find a build that worked for all four elements without giving up Black Hole (which combos with my Strongarm Bracers) or Magic Weapon - Deflection (which is a huge survival tool for me).

I thought I was going to have to ditch Frost Nova given that it doesn't do any damage and Tal's specifically says "Damaging enemies with...", which is really unfortunate because it stacks nicely with Explosive Blast and Unwavering Will. To my surprise I discovered that it does proc the frost meteors which is incredible news. Just did a test run in a T3 rift and the light show was pretty cool. Gonna fire up Shadowplay and record a session.

I realized afterward that I still have a really bitchin' Moonlight Ward in the bank. I can swap that on, swap Explosive Blast to Arcane and swap Black Hole to the fire rune, but I'd need to move my Strongarms to 20% Arcane and that's gonna get expensive and I'm pretty broke atm ><

Plus I kind of want a Xephiran Amulet to soak Electrified, or a Tal's Ammy to swap back to Blackthorne's Belt. I'll save the Moonlight ward for a Vyr's build, if I can ever find any of those pieces.

It is only our money that allows commercial culture to flower. If we didn't want to live like this, we could have changed it at any time, by not fucking paying for it.

I hope that Tasker and Theo just can't drop for a monk because I'd be so ass pained if that ever happened for me. I mean sure it'd likely end up being usable on my demon hunter but I would just feel bad if it happened.

@darklilith was added back to the clan after being removed by Hex last night per request (see folks, if you got removed, just ask back in as you probably don't play when us officers are on)

I also made an admin decision and added @Schwhat to the clan as I'm not sure how he never got into the clan to begin with as long as he's played.

We still have plenty of spots currently open and @HexDex along with us other officers will start adding new people soon enough. Again, if you were removed from the clan, just get up with one of us officers and let us know so we can add you back.

holy shit. well congrats, but goddamn that took a long time. Were you lucky or... unlucky? I guess we don't know the rates of T&T vs other legendaries, but you get the impression that tons of them are out there from the way people talk. 27,000+ shards just sounds bonkers. 5,468 rolls on gloves. Good lord.

I didn't keep exact counts on the three most common gloves: magefists, gladiator gauntlets, and those stupid tank gloves that i can't even bother to remember the names of. st andrews bullshit of crappytown, but I got at least 10 of each of them (almost perfect trifecta versions of the magefists and glad gaunts).

3 frostburns (one of those on the purchase right before the T&T popped) and 1 T&T.

In terms of legendary rate... I wouldn't say I was unlucky at all. In terms of specific legendary types and rolls on those... I was, imo, pretty unlucky. A lot of this is based on all my friends who ended up jumping on the WD bandwagon getting their gloves in well under 5k shards - some in 2k. RNG is RNG I guess (although that reasoning is gonna get pretty old pretty quickly at this rate)
