We've left a lot of random stuff on the moon. Cars:

And one piece of art.
That small statue on laying in the lunar dust is Fallen Astronaut. The small plaque with the names of the astronauts and cosmonauts who had died during the process of space exploration.
Two names, Valentin Bondarenko and Grigori Nelyubov, are not on that list because their deaths were not known in the West at the time.
The statue was made by Paul van Hoeydonck. It was brought up on Apollo 15 and placed there in a small ceremony on the Moon by Cmdr David Scott. It was designed to represent no sex or ethnicity. It is 3.3 inches tall and made out of aluminium. It's designed to survive the extended temperature changes it faces on the moon. These are the things that everyone involved agree on. There are 50 copies. 48 in Van Hoeydonck's posession, 1 in the possession of the Smithsonian, and 1 owned by the Belgian Royal Family. Beyond this point we have two differing accounts. One from Van Hoeydonck and one from Cmdr Scott.
Cmdr Scott intended it to be a memorial to fallen astronauts and says he made that clear. Van Hoeydonck intended for it to be a publicly known piece. And it's lead to bitter issues between them ever since. Now you'd think that the first piece of art left on the Moon would be a bigger deal but it became mired in scandal. After Apollo 15 returned to Earth, it was learned that the Apollo 15 astronauts had brought 398 postal covers to the Moon, with the understanding that 100 were to be turned over to a German stamp dealer. It was one of those political scandals that wasn't really a scandal but made a lot of noise and caused a lot of people to question how tightly tied together commercial interests were with the Space Program and Nixon quietly began to cut funding. Fallen Astronaut became tied into this when Van Heoydonck wanted to sell reproductions. And then the whole thing faded from public consciousness.

The yield from curd is pretty good and it makes the fresh stuff that goes for about ten bucks a lub.
