Kinda disappointed the caterpillar isn't farther along than it is. The interior concepts have been around for quite a while, but I suppose it makes sense that they'd shelve everything multi-crew until all the solo ships are done.

It's very clear that unless it's for Arena Commander 1.0 or SQ42, it's on the back burner for now. The only ships that they've been working on getting hanger/flight ready are the ones that they need for those. The rest are more for the PU and can wait.

Take note in the Javelin description that it lists MINIMUM crew at 23. They aren't screwing around with it being a ship an organization will have to outfit and operate.

I love them for that. this is the kind of thing that will keep big orgs in check. Even if they can muster up enough people at once to field one or two of these at a time... it's two ships and maybe a couple escorts. Not at all inconceivable that they couple be repulsed or destroyed by half as many people with smaller ships using less planning and organization.

It's going to depend on a lot. The Javelin doesn't really fuck around; the thing has 13x ATA turrets, which are(presumably Air To Air or in other words, Anti-Fighter) weapons, and two bigger STS(Ship to Ship, anti capital ship) guns. Against a bunch of small fightercraft, or even larger ships like a Constellation, it might take some light damage, but it's going to tear everything apart. With the rating 14 shield and likely high amounts of armor, it's probably straight up nearly immune to smaller fighter and small craft based weapons. Which is why you're going to need dedicated weapons to put one down; While an assault with 25 hornets against 1 Javelin by itself probably results a lot of dead hornets and an slightly annoyed Javelin, a different assault by 25 Gladiators against the same Javelin probably results in a completely wrecked Javelin and maybe a small handful of dead Gladiators.

And even arguably worse, the biggest problem of using a Javelin(and this applies to the Idris as well) is that even if it survives a fight, it's totally possible that the ship is crippled and vulnerable after the fight. Even if the first attack fails to kill the Javelin, a crippled Javelin can be even worse than a dead one. If it's dead, it's dead and you can't do much, but a crippled Javelin can massive problem. Too big an asset to just scrap it causally, a crippled Javelin is vulnerable to follow up attacks and even worse, possible boarding actions. It forces the org to spend resources to recover and repair and protect the wounded Javelin. And that shit can be nightmare.

So how the heck do 23+ get to it when only one ship can dock?

The Javelin's hangar is designed to hold a Redeemer, which itself can hold 8-10 crew (1 pilot, 2 gunners and 4-6 marines is the stated crew size), so I guess you'd just make three trips to load it up from empty.

I'm sure it's got at least one docking collar too, if not more. Which of course would be the simplest way to crew it, docked at a base or station via docking collar.

I refuse to believe there's any reasonable way to board a Javelin. Only because I'm amused by the mental image of one very tired super hornet pilot bringing the whole crew on board one at a time.

From what I understand, you can log in and log out of them when the ship is in space.
I'm not sure about spawning as in making a character spawn in a ship after it left port.

It's got a main airlock(and a EVA airlock in sub-deck 2) plus a cargo lift guys. Getting people on it is as simple as docking to station.

The Carrack is up for sale but before you shell out any monies be aware CIG has not decided if it is a soloable craft yet. Roberts went on reverse the verse and stated as much. It could very well be that an all NPC crew simply won't be enough to fly the ship effectively. Which makes me a very sad space panda because I really want that ship!

I'm thinking there's going to more than a few pissed off backers come beta. CIG hasn't really stressed how import coop is for some of these very expensive ships. I'd hate to throw cash at something like the Carrack but never be able to enjoy using it for exploration. That's why I've shifted the contents of my fleet to include nothing larger than a Stella. Does anyone really want to sit in my turret for three hours while I'm making trade runs?

    Aurora LN for life.

I can somewhat lone wolf it to my heart's content, and sure I'm moving significantly less cargo, but I'm also splitting the payment up among one person, numero uno.

Then, when I need to move through through the more dangerous areas of space or when I have some extremely high value cargo onboard, I simply sign up as part of a fighter escort for one of you guys with the larger ships. You think you're using me for protection, but in reality I'm using you for protection and you're even paying me for it.

True but there are some functions NPCs won't be good at or even able to do and that's a design decision, not a technological limitation. They straight up said NPCs will be shit at working the Reclaimer's arm meaning going solo will be a huge pain in the ass. I doubt NPCs can pull off C&C stuff and whatever charting duty the Carrack needs to be effective.

So, I've tried a few times to get the bigger picture of this game, but there's so much info about it, I don't really know where to start. I know the premise of the game, that its still in development but there are forms of early access modules... Is there a good place that gives kinda the picture of what the game is like currently?

The current game is pretty much just walking around a hangar and flying one of a handful of ships around in a limited arena-type setting, and the latter tends to see a lot of changes as the devs adjust controls and balance and optimize things.

Really, there isn't a "game" right now so much as a couple of bits to show backers where the game is headed. There's some seriously impressive stuff in those bits, but not much content yet. It's going to be a long while yet before everything is integrated into a proper game.

You could actually look up Youtube stuff for Star Citizen hangar and Arena Commander modules and probably find a zillion videos of what the game is like right now.

There's a timeline! Early next year probably for the 1.0 version of dogfighting, late spring for the first version of the FPS module I believe... something like that. The website has the info somewhere... https://robertsspaceindustries.com/project-status might be helpful. And there's this: http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Anticipated_release_schedule - but not sure how up to date it is.

When you look for youtube videos of the game, make sure to sort by date - stuff changes frequently, and it just keeps looking better.

Geez, remind me never to work for you.

I played it twice. First time I ran out of fuel because I decided to be really adventurous and scroll up... nothing lies that way but the empty black. Second ship I blew out my hull hiding from Vanduul in a dust cloud that turned out to be corrosive. Hull was already a bit weak. I was about to run out of fuel anyway, so I guess it was better to go out that way than to drift and die slowly. :P huh... which makes me think they need a better (more grim) message when you run out of fuel, since all it says is that you've run out of fuel.

Yeah I just won too. All you need is to hang on for a little bit after the derelict. It doesn't matter if you're sucking fumes and your crew is about to off you. Just hit that finish line. It also helps if you have an idea as to which choices have the potential for a better outcome.

If you play through the browser game on the carrack info page on RSI you get a bade for your RSI forum account.

I did it after two tries, and only then noticed I had forgotten to log in...
Subsequent tries have ended in gruesome deaths for my crew until my fingers hurt from all the scrolling.

I don't think they are as random as I first thought. I've noticed that you win the fight against the competitors 100% when your morale is full and other small patterns like that I can't remember...
The first choice seems to be the only one that's weirdly random but if you can just roll the dice over and over to get a certain result from that one, I was able to consistently get the same results from making the same choices for 3-4 events down the line that I can remember.

Then again, my sample size is small enough that I'm probably just seeing things.
