Do you all just not care about tournaments anymore? This is the time and day that has always gotten the biggest response but this week it was a flat nothing.
Should I just wait until the next DLC character gets people interested again?
Well my excuse is that its amazing weather here and I've been playing outside all week.
Somewhere my mother just got a sense of smug satisfaction.

It's college football season. You can't expect me to show up on a Saturday during college flipping football season.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I'd be up for the casual tournament, however it falls smack on when my daughter is going to sleep (UK time). I've never done a tournament before but I've picked good back up and have been having fun with it.
2 things I'd wish they would do with this, but probably won't for logistics reasons.
1: Have a mode in the game that would let one player with the gamepad build the stage while people battled. Smash is probably too damn hectic to really pull this off, but the trolling the creator could do would be epic.
2: Put in a mode in SMM that would let you create and upload levels to Smash to be used. Though it's kill the whole "hand building the stage as you played" gimmick they're going for. And really it's no different from the stage creator already in the game.

I lost the link already, but someone tried to leak Shovel Knight as part of next week's DLC, but he wasn't even coloured correctly in the screenshot. Guys, you need to look at concept art before doctoring an image, not an 8-bit style sprite.

Am I the only one who thinks that artwork of Shovel Knight that people keep using for fake leaks is like, really, really shitty and off-model? I get that the Rayman leaker guy made it, but it doesn't look right. He always looks too lanky and his armor doesn't... cluster? (is that the right word?) correctly.

The pic in the video isn't the Smashified guy's Shovel Knight.

I read somewhere that it was a special piece he did for someone (as a commission?). Not the exact same as his original but by the same person. That may have been wrong though.
Either way, my point stands, for both versions. They look off-model to me.
We'll have a full Shantae: Half-Genie Hero update for you VERY soon! But in the meantime we’ve got a special message from Half-Genie Hero Director Matt Bozon:
Hey Shantae fans! I hope you don’t mind my hijacking today’s Backer Update. But with only a few days left in the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, it seemed like a worthy cause. First, we’d like to say thank you to everyone for voting to include Shantae’s in the Super Smash Bros. series. Numerous independent polls have placed her near the top of the list of hopefuls! We don’t have any idea how these votes will be categorized and put to use, but any way you slice it this is great news for Shantae. Even being recognized as a contender will help with the future success of Shantae games. So thank you very much for choosing her!
If you’ve yet to cast your vote, or know someone who would like to see Shantae added to the Smash roster, please use the links below! As backers, you’re over 20,000 people strong. So you can make a real impact over the next few days. Just please remember that win or lose, it’s all for fun! We’ve had a lot of fun speculating, making concepts, and sharing ideas with you. Good luck and keep voting!
I don't know anyone who gives a dang-ol'-darn about Shantae.
You know who would be interesting to see? Simon Belmont based on Castlevanias 1,2, and 4. With less stakes thrown at orbs and tornados.
This would require Konami to claw it's way out of it's money pit though, so chances on this are slim.
What? Unless they are in such desperate straits that they legally can't do anything until their shit is straight, they would leap at such an opportunity. Nobody is paying to have their character put in someone else's game: Nintendo probably has to pay sizable royalties to Capcom, Sega, etc. in exchange for really great advertising for their game (I would like to see Ryu's sales vs. the other three DLC characters). And I bet third parties get a non-zero cut of amiibo sales, which is further money in the bank.
I don't think they would leap at it. They've shown pretty clearly now that they simply no longer give any fucks. They'd just say no and not give it a second thought.

Konami characters aren't out of the question -- they're happy to reuse their characters in pachinko machines and the like. If Sakurai came up to them and said "hey, I want to put Simon Belmont in the game, mind if I give you loads of money for the privilege and do all the work?" They'd probably say ".....'kay."
Sure, cross-licensing can be thorny, but Sony had zero problem getting the 47 guest stars for PlayStation Too Many Words Smash Bros.

Konami would probably leap at it in the sense that it's basically free money for them. They like money (insert Idiocracy clip here)

I would absolutely love to see a Belmont in Smash.. but given Nintendo's recent pushes with indie devs, I have this back of my mind feeling that they are going to do an "Nindies" set of characters/costumes. Shantae would fit very nearly in there, as would Shovel Knight.
I still think Sami might have a shot. That would help revitalize another one of Nintendo's franchises. I also think amiibos styled after the classic advance wars characters would be popular. Maybe not Lucina popular though....

Eh, they're happy to use their characters in the pachinko machines they made. There's no cross licensing or contracts or anything. Their toys, their work, their money.
If Sakurai came up to them and said all that, I'd sooner think they'd just say "No. Piss off.".

Eh, as goofy as they've been acting lately I doubt they'd turn down easy money/publicity. They're ruthless, but they're not running around setting piles of money on fire.
...well, maybe in Snake's case. I can see Konami's current leadership turning down a Snake revival out of a continued grudge over the MGSV situation. But given Konami's put loads of their old games on Virtual Console, even after the nuttiness started, they haven't gone full "get off my lawn" just yet.

I mean, I've learned something over the years, watching all manner of businesses in all manner of fields and industries.
Generally speaking, "free/easy money and publicity" means jack shit if they're not in complete control.
I've seen a whole wack of situations where it was literally free money doing absolutely nothing, and the company turns it down, either because they're not in control, or they're splitting the profits or something.
It's why I've started taking that phrase of "free money/publicity" as being almost completely meaningless. Just because it's free does not mean they're obligated to take it. And in many cases... they won't.

It looks like the perfect stage for an "All-random" theme battle.

And now you do.
Unless they add the Mario Sunshine pachinko level as a stage.
That game will sell, you know.
