The majority of people love customs, and since EVO had customs and went off without any problems (in fact, the finals were a default vs. default) I'm inclined to keep them. To be fair, I can see why our "anything goes" rule may be more annoying than the more predictable eight tournament presets for customs, but I don't want people to feel like they have to farm for specific customs so they can use them.

My issue with customs is simply that A: I haven't unlocked them all and B: there is such a ridiculous variety, especially if you haven't seen the custom before, where you come in and the match is completely different than what you expected.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I got splattered in a tournament by a Mega Man using his reflect custom side-b. Most customs don't change the match up as significantly as that one, but damn.
I wish I could just spend coins to unlock custom moves. I've played countless matches and I feel like I'm rolling in coins, but I've got to rely on stupid rng to unlock moves.
What do I even have to spend coins on? Trophies on the 3ds? Crazy hand tickets on the wii-u?
If yoube unlocked Heavenly Light for Palutena- wait, she starts with everything unlocked.
...as I was saying, do Trophy Rush with Palutena and pack Heavenly Light.

I was playing my brother this weekend and he busted out his custom Palutena. Move setup was explosive flame, jump glide, super speed, and lightweight. Made for a very fast, speedy opponent that could set up some good KOs with explosive flame.
I also learned that her super speed makes for great horizontal recovery, with knockback included.
God damnit just came back to the game and you guys reminded me I have almost NO custom moves. Suppose I should start trying to unlock them. Think im going to play some one different then my usual suspects , maybe toon link!

Eeehhhh, it can at high enough percentages. I was using Toon Link for the most part and he's pretty light, and with enough damage racked up, explosive flame can send you flying pretty far.
I will probably tinker with the stages tomorrow. Probably remove some low ceiling stages and drop Lylat back to counterpick to even the striking.
How bad is town and city? I know the ceiling is on the low side
town and city is perfectly fine. no reason to change it. if you're at the right layout, maybe from a high platform you could get a somewhat early kill, but nothing thats absurd like ps2 or halberd
Double Elimination, with regular matches will be best of three 1v1 matches with two stocks. Winner, Loser, and Grand Finals will be best of five. Time for all matches is six minutes.
The results of Sudden Death are ignored, and the player with the lowest damage percentage when time expires is the winner.
Items, and equipment are banned; Custom Moves are allowed.
Players may switch characters/moves between matches. The winner of the previous match opts to change first (notify your opponent of whom) and then the loser may change their character in turn.
Starter Stages: 1. Battlefield, 2. Final Destination (or an identical Ω stage), 3. Duck Hunt, 4. Smashville, 5. Town and City and 6. Lylat Cruise.
A starter stage is chosen via striking. Starting with the higher seeded (#) player, players go back and forth banning starter stages until there is one stage left. The set begins on that stage.
After a match, the winner may ban up to two stages. Then the loser picks the next stage, and which may be any of the starter stages or the following counterpick stages: Castle Siege, Delfino Plaza, Kongo Jungle, Pokemon Stadium 2, Luigi's Mansion, Skyloft, Wuhu Island, and Halberd. The loser may NOT pick a stage they have previously won on in that set.
When a set is finished, report results on Challonge. If you wish, you can also report the scores of each match (how many KOs each player got), but this is optional. If a mistake is made, report it to me and it'll be fixed.
Sets should take thirty minutes to complete. If after five minutes your opponent has not shown up, please contact me and you will win the set by default.
When playing on Final Destination, either player may choose to play on Omega Palutena's Temple instead.
Smasher's Agreement: a player make pick a stage not on this list if both players agree to it.
Players must have a PA forum account and be present in the Steam PA Smash Bros group chat.

Our new casual tournaments! This uses the new Tournament mode, so if you are having any issues let me know. Keep in mind that rules are quite limited for custom tournaments, so feedback will be limited to certain things (item bans, points vs. wins, # of points/wins for victory, etc.).
Four-player free-for-all matches, with the first player to ten wins being the tournament winner.
Three stock matches with a time limit of eight minutes.
Items are set to medium, equipment is banned, and Custom Moves are allowed.
Mii Fighters are allowed.
All stages are legal and set to player-pick.
The tournament is set to end after about six hours.
And I can't tcommit because I have a place to be 2 hours after it starts.
Ditto. Although it's true of me tomorrow -- my absence today is out of a lack of interest in "traditional" Smash tournaments -- I simply can't commit that amount of time.
Let's try this again. I've taken feedback and switched up the stages a bit: Halberd, Delfino, and Pokemon Stadium 2 are gone, while Lylat goes down to counterpick for even neutral striking. Adding Dreamland 64 as a CP for those who have the DLC. I dunno how far this is ("you only won because you had the DLC for a stage I'm weak on!") but I'd like to keep the stage selection healthy.

Nah. Can't do Dreamland. Not everyone has the DLC.

Still, there's only one way to learn.

I got my ass kicked by a Pac Man tonight.
Didn't even resent it. Seeing some of the shit he pulled off was downright impressive. Really nice use of the bell.
