I've, personally, been trying to be more positive lately. Not for a real "put positivity into the world, maaaan" reason, but just because I think negative opinions are really easy and cheap. It's sort of more courageous to me to take a stand for liking something, as opposed to just not liking something, or saying "it sucks" for whatever reason. Disliking things is low-stress and low-risk and it's also boring, a lot of the time.
I'm not going to be bothered by others' negative opinions (and I haven't listened to the Bombcast in a while), but I do see it as unfortunate when you sorta define your tastes by the things you don't like as opposed to the things that you do like.
I'm also really starting to get offput by the assertion that jeff is 'cynical'
Jeff is not cynical
he's actually usually pretty optimistic about new games and often excited to play them even when they're about something that he doesn't traditionally like
he doesn't like some things, but that actually isn't cynicism
jeff is always excited for and looking forward to new games
The yelling about how stuff is dumb or hey isnt x event fucked up to hey this looks fun ratio is just not doin it for me lately

Like in the very same segment that sparked this dicussion, Jeff AND Brad both give lots of praise to multiple Zelda games - Link to the Past, Wind Waker, and A Link Between Worlds specifically.
Assessing someone's attitude as cynical is subjective. Arguing over whether someone technically qualifies as cynical is the most tedious thing I can imagine right now.

Give me a couple minutes and I can come up with something more tedious if you'd like

I mean I'll drop it but he spent a bunch of time this week talking about games he's excited for and a positive idea of the general state of the industry so

I like Jeff and Dan and Drew
I like when Danny O'Dwyer is on
I came in to this whole thing after the Ryan and Vinny and Patrick era so I have no frame of reference there

then don't listen to the podcast boom done, stop hating yourself for changing in a way that the media you consume is different and just start consuming that different media

The only one I don't really like is Brad
If someone wanted to call brad cynical I would not object
Though my actual problem with brad is that when he dislikes things he can't articulate why
So he just makes something up
and then defends to the death games he does like with those exact same issues

the straw that broke my back with the bombcast was when they spent all of five minutes talking about Evo and the next week spent like two hours talking about the International
I get that none of them really play fighting games, but maybe they could have thought to ask jason to come on and talk about it instead of just writing it off

Actually, I'm finding this pretty engaging so far. Next.

basically i don't have anything against people deciding that giant bomb is not for them, but there's a long and unfortunate trend of people who aren't actually entertained by giant bomb anymore stubbornly continuing to consume their content and then repeatedly posting about how they aren't entertained by them anymore and it's just like you could skip so much of this self-grief if you could stop your giant bomb habit you addict

I cancelled my subscription and haven't listened to the bombcast or regularly watched videos in months
that doesn't mean I'm not bummed about a thing I liked a lot turning into a thing I don't really like

That's not what cynical means
Steam
then I'm just confused
because youve described him as NEGATIVE, which is pretty subjective so okay
but nothing he's done or that you've brought up shows him to be a cynic?
