rogues are actually highly geared towards two handed weapons
Oh really. I've been duel-wielding on my rogue for some reason. He seems to do a good job of wrecking shit, but sometimes its hard to tell.
The one thing this game is missing in terms of combat information is weapon speed, I think. It's great that weapons give you damage values... and DR penetration and such. But without attack speed, it's hard to understand the real value DPS value. It's like, oh, I have this Unique Exceptional 2hander. It does 50-60 damage. It attack speed is Slow... But I also have this Unique Exceptional dagger. It does 20-30 damage. Its attack speed is very fast. Ignoring DR, the dagger might be better if it can attack 3 times in the time the 2hander takes to attack once. But I don't actually know, because the game just gives me generic "fast", "average", and "slow" metrics.
It is not a dungeon that is meant to be tackled all at once.
You might want to do a little more of Act 3 before you continue.
In other news I finally beat this game! I had been dithering on finishing it. It was a mistake bringing an Inn mercenary to the final stage. So much chattiness! Maybe I'll load up the save and go through the final bit with all the other party members just to get a taste of their opinions and perspectives.
Pillars of Eternity was really good! I went to dinner to contemplate final decisions. It's a really interesting game. I never got the DLC before the ending so I suppose there's a little more lingering to bite off, but I suspect I'll wait until they fully release The White March if I ever go back.
I thought the final battle would be a pushover after the bottom of the Endless Paths but it was actually tough...! I ended up one-shotting it but it stretched my party's might pretty thin! If I hadn't needed to step up my game for Od Nua then I probably would have died a whole bunch.
I was really sad at my rogue's performance in the fight. I had to revive her 3 times and she barely got to scratch Thaos himself. She might have put in some work on the Statues but that part of the fight was so hectic that I didn't get to stop and see her sneak attack damage. I never found Sagani a good bow (which is part of why I excluded her in favor of my rogue) but considering the huge AoE damage in the fight she probably would have ended up doing more damage from a safer range.
It's really quite nice of them to put in a dispelling ring right before the final boss...! My Kana had zero rings so I threw on both rings that I found in Sun in Shadow. There was a point where Thaos dominated 4-5 people in the party. Then Kana just ran up, popped the dispelling ring, and freed everyone. It was pretty hilarious.
Hey, Pillars thread! I finally got my PC back up and running again so I jumped back into this. I left off...somewhere....I dunno how the acts are divided up or anything, but now I have met Pallegrina or whatever her name is, started exploring the Endless Paths, and have started criss-crossing the early areas finishing up quests and collecting bounties and such. I think my next step is going further East towards...Twin something maybe? Or some kind of Marsh? I forget. This game confuses me but I love it.
Oh and I just today realized you can set basic AI behavior for your party...is that new? I don't remember having that option when I started playing all those months ago, but it's entirely possible I just didn't notice it. Combat is so much better now, holy shit. No more squinting through trees and fireballs and other occluding particle effects and the like trying to figure out who to click and what to do with them.
Combat is WAY better now. Mostly because of the AI, and the separate stealth for each party member.
Honestly I'm loving the combat in this game. Me and Shep were discussing it in our super secret gaming ventrilo the other day. The rules for the most part make way more sense than other RPGs. They're fun to think about, fun to invest in. The criticisms I have are really nitpicky -- like the whole attack speed thing I was talking about earlier.
I for one would be interested in Obsidian building on this combat system for future Pillars-style games.
Seriously, the benefits of being able to just NOT click on every character after using an ability and have them still do a few things cannot be understated. I was wasting so much time and health and endurance by forgetting to set new targets and stuff.
All I wanna do is get home and play this; it's all I can think about. Stupid work, let me out of here.....
Heh just murdered all of a tribes elders and warriors because they wanted to sacrifice a baby. I've got a reputation to uphold here.
What would have been a hard fight in a tight space ended up being a breeze because I conveniently (accidentally) bottlenecked everyone in the building into a doorway....which I then filled with Force Walls and copious amounts of lightning. They couldn't get through my row of guys filling the door, so they just stood inside my magic walls being crushed by them. Oh, and I also pulled all the totems/figurines I've collected out of the stash and gave them to people, so I was constantly dropping beetles and wurms and such to run interference. Wish I'd realized the utility of those things sooner, they are pretty handy.
Just dropping in to mention that Feargus, in an interview with gameinformer, mentioned that Obsidian is developing a repurposed version of the Stormlands project (North Carolina).
Thats the XBOX One exclusive Josh Sawyer project that was cancelled by Microsoft in March 2012 that lead to a 30 people layoff wave before the company was rescued by the Armored Warfare and Pillars projects.
Publisher doesn't seem to be Microsoft this time though.
For those who want to patch an older install on GoG:
I didn't bother patching the game as the patches came out on GoG (they remove them for some dumb reason) so I had to redownload the game and do a fresh install. I kept getting a Runtime Error when I tried starting it. The problem was that I once installed GoG Galaxy to try it out and it left a folder in the ProgramData folder. Pillars's runtime error was somehow related to that folder but renaming/removing the folder at C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy fixed it.
Dumb bug.

I will agree completely but what is game-debate.com and who's awards are these, is this like winning the Nickelodeons kids choice awards?
I'm just sharing the news. They are a game site that had a public vote, and Pillars edged out Witcher for RPG of the year via popular vote. That's worthy of some celebration.

Pillars of Eternity has been named Mac Game of the Year by Apple.
P.S. For anyone that was unaware, since the segment did not air, Pillars was also nominated for RPG of the year at The Game Awards. That one went to Witcher 3, but hey nominated right?!

Haven't played much since close to launch, been putting it off for quite awhile and decided to wait until white march part 2 before I hunker down and do a really serious run.
Have they buffed barbarians? Felt almost impossible to keep mine alive, I'd rush him into a group and let him go berserk and it always ended sort of badly but knowing me, I was probably playing him wrong.
but there's weird things as well. For instance, I set my cipher to be a rogue-type ranged character. I sneak her in, I try to pull of a pot shot to bait people in to a battleground of my choosing... Then she casts a freakin' spell instead. I love having companion AI's cause let's face it, I'm lazy. but when your ai overrules what I just told a person to do one quarter of a second ago, there might be a problem with that.

Picked this up yesterday on sale and I'm already in love. Just got to the first town, Gilded Vale or whatever. Taking it slow as this is my first rpg of this type, but it's exactly the game I needed right now. Rolled a Nature God dude, Druid who turns into a Stag. Probably not the best, but I loved the look.

Druids are a strong class, so you don't need to worry.
I think the second half of the expansion launches next month, unless the date has been pushed back. Anyone know?

It ate up my entire Sunday.
And the evening on Monday.
The Endless Paths felt nearly endless.
And it STILL isn't over. I ended up skipping a bunch of content towards the end. Including what you find at the lower level.
I don't want to finish it, but I feel like I have to. I've come all this way, I should finish it.

Send help.
Stockholm syndrome from my own adventure, maybe?
I turned level 9 at some point during the dungeon.
Hmm. This explains why levels 12 and 13 were so painful.

Oh, OK I guess I'll pick a 2H weapon then. Thanks again!
The dungeon, sadly, doesn't have a whole lot of point to it. It's kind of a wasted opportunity.

I'm willing to bet Zahua gets his own companion mission.
And it's been pretty heavily implied we'll get a Barbarian companion.
And I believe that you'll get to make some decisions/rulings as Ruler of Caed Nua. But that's probably in the associated update.
That's about all I've managed to pick up here and there. I'm not sure I'd call any of it official.
Barbarian companion has been announced.

Max their intelligence and carnage can hit 4-5 guys at a time.
Points.
1. Eder is even better than Minsc.
2. Nothing else even matters in comparison.
