wincing in panel three, where the grey pointy things invade the panel. straight object in background distorts.

buying face in hands and shaking in panel four, hair askew again, as the grey pointy things are depicted beginning to pierce into her head

kat's perspective in panel five, indicating aetheric nature of grey pointy things

panel six - suddenly hair flat, instead of lifting head from hands, unnatural gesture of parting hands away from face

Those mental effects around Kat are no more bones than speed lines are swarms of black noodles flying after especially quick objects.

Anime characters dont actually get giant droplets of water hovering in front of their forehead.

The 'bones' are an effect signifying mental anguish

I figure that the "bones" are just a natural extension of the cracks Tom used to draw whenever Annie was getting kind of stressed but didn't show it
