I picked up a ubiquiti wireless deal today. Seems like a neato, but it does require controller software to be installed somewhere. Once I get this place wired up, I might add another one for more weefees. Totally unnecessary, but.. it's so easy!
I'm honestly not as fascinated by that as I am by the fact that the Guardian has a technology editor who's been working there since 2008 and no one has told him not to start sentences with conjunctions.
I think my first gen Moto 360 might be on the way out, you guys. But it doesn't feel like smart watches have progressed a whole lot in the past two years?
Big google announcement stream just happened, recap courtesy of reddit-
Google assistant AI is now smarter, more helpful.
Google has made lots of AI advancements, better machine translation and better text to speech/speech recognition.
New Google Pixel phone.
Free unlimited cloud photos storage, original quality, for Google Pixel owners.
Google Daydream View mobile VR headset. Costs $79, and some phones are compatible or are going to be released with the Google Daydream platform, check the Google Daydream website for more information.
New Google Wifi router, update of the earlier Google OnHub router, with more features.
Google Home speaker (the Amazon Alexa competitor) powered by Google Assistant, $129 for a single speaker (and 6 months free Youtube Red subscription), $299 for a pack of three.
Chromecast Ultra, same "puck" shaped Chromecast design, but updated with 4K support, HDR, and Dolby Vision, costs $69, and has Ethernet support.
But I can't use headphones with it the hole is to small.
Also this glass screen protector sucks and I'm kinda upset about it. I can't hit enter on my keyboard and it doesn't cover the whole screen. That's what I get for not shopping online I guess.

We use ubiquiti access points at work. They're fantastic.
I think I want to get one of those Pixel phones. I have a HTC One m8 and the thing is a pile of crap. Never really liked it.
I'm with t-mobile now, but I'm thinking about trying out this Project Fi thing. Has anyone used it yet? If so, how was switching and how's the service where you are?
if you've got good service on t-mobile you should be fine on project fi. i've been using it for most of the year now and its been pretty good, and mostly better coverage than before (with the extra ability to bounce off sprint's networks). the only thing I would miss is the free data use for certain aps t-mobile has, but I don't usually stream a ton of music/videos so having a <$30 a month phone bill makes up for it.
I picked up a Project Fi phone (5x) a few months ago just to try it out and I haven't been disappointed yet. Pricing is good and it's nice to have a phone that actually updates as promised *cough*yousuckverizon*cough*.

Well, it's all premium grade stuff on the hardware side. It really is quite an iPhone clone, it's basically an Android iPhone 7 with a headphone port. So the price is about right. I don't like the blatantly dishonest "7 hours battery charge in 15 minutes" crap though. Maybe 7 hours of standby if you're in airplane mode? 7 hours of actual typical usage off a 15 minute charge is bullshit, even for the bigger battery size - if that were true it would only take half an hour to charge the battery from dead flat to 100%.

well, to be fair, my sack of shit S6 can go from 0 to 100 in about 1.2 hours, so... i can believe them, but the power source matters a lot
That'll be off a full power USB-C charger. My phone charges pretty dang quick off one of them, so I'd believe it'd be possible in laboratory conditions at least.

I wonder how hot the phone gets when it does that?

Soon instead of headphone jacks all phones will have tiny fans to blow cool air over the batteries from the super chargers.

i don't understand why you wouldn't just quit your old job
instead of making them write this really embarassing-for-all note that leaves a cloud of suspicion in its wake
Dude thought he could work both and get away with it?
welp, then I have nothing
I'd rather not have to deal with the chance of my phone getting messed up and deal with the hassle of having to roll back to 6.0 I guess for now
getting a 6P for $300 was pretty nice though
I think later this year I'm gonna try the new Apple Watch and see if there's an app for the workout features that I use.
But I can't use headphones with it the hole is to small.

I'm ready to get rid of the S6
get one quick, google isn't selling them directly any more
Yeah, good point. I'm looking at switching over to Project Fi and it seems like they're still available there though. Probably not for long.
The 7 hours of battery on 15 min of charging, if true, is pretty awesome though.
Indeed but that price point makes me think I'll stick to my plan and get whatever the upgraded version of the pixel is when it's released.
The 32GB pixel is £600
ouch
edit: That new Chromecast though, that's something I can get into.
https://store.google.com/product/pixel_phone specs are here, 5 and 5.5 are the same except screen size, battery size and resolution (1080p vs 1440p)

I think even with that, I'd probably come in under what I'm currently paying with T-Mobile as long as I don't fuck around too much off wi-fi.
Looking to move over permanently at this point.
I think the only downside for getting them via Fi was the device insurance was slightly more expensive through Fi vs google store for some reason.
Because it seems like a kinda expensive device with standard hardware with good software. Or is there specialist hardware in there as well?
Satans..... hints.....

The S6 gets "pretty hot" but I find the cord itself is what ends up getting hotter anyway
certainly, in total, it doesnt get as hot as when you run it at full tilt in a video game or something
