@Buttcleft is just bitter because I almost beat his Thunderbolt on Sunday in my AC. Out of everybody, I had to try and kill him earlier in the match by coring his back out. I forgot that he is one of the few that actually puts armor on his back so left him for later. Regretted that when I had to try and kill him to win the match.
So is there any speed difference between a std engine and XL? That is one thing I never got to learn in TT. If there is no difference, think I might try the std engine over my XL in my King Crab. Also another question. If I upgrade my pre order to the Mauler level from the Wolfhound, do I get all the pre order goodies as if I did it before the May 31 cutoff date?
Speed is entirely determined by the engine rating and your tonnage.
So, there's no speed difference between a 'mech mounting a 300 STD and a 300 XL engine, but the XL engine is much lighter - so, for the same tonnage, you could mount a 300 STD or a 365 XL (actually at a half-ton savings!). The 365 will obviously make you go much faster.
Thanks for the info on the engines guys, will have to see what my KC is running and if I can fit a STD engine back in there. Just curious to see if the XL is getting me killed more than if I didn't run one. Most of the time I swear that it is my ST that's going up before a CT. But there is a part of me that says that is just my imagination. I know we've had this discussion mny times already regarding the KC and I noticed the other day that Hydro is running a STD in his UAC5 scuttler which made me wonder.
I might just contact PGI to answer my question regarding the package, if I can find how to do that.
There are pros and cons to using the xl or std engine on the crab. I know my ac40 crab has kept on trucking with destroyed side torsos many times.
Imo the "use xl engines on the kc because it's CT is larger than average " argument is fairly hollow, but the "for the same tonnage, you can mount a higher rated engine and maneuver to avoid sticky situations in the first place" argument holds a lot of merit.
Also, high rating xl engines are expensive.
Personally I'm just hoping that the next package after clan battlemechs is a time skip that grants access to toys like light fusion engines. The clan invasion Era is a shitty setting for a game if you don't give the IS numerical superiority or hinder the clans with the rules of zelbriggen.

the speed difference comes from xl allowing me to run a 360 vs the heavy standard 300.
The 360XL can drop in place of the 300STD, as the 360XL is 1.5tons lighter, and can 4 internal heatsinks, so that frees up both a lot of internal space, gives you a little bit of precious extra weight savings, and gives you a whole lot more go fast.
and for the crabs, its the gofast that makes you survive more on average. my crab, with speed tweak and a 360 engine, goes 65kph now.
Which means it can actually make it to the fight, has enough speed to stumble over minor obstructions(Viridian Bog!), twist faster, and slip into cover faster. An overall increase in survivability even with the vulnerability of XL
I'm hording my money for a few Light engines when they finally hit. 300, 280, 255, 295 and 340 should suffice.
And if the cost is the same as TT, my 40 million Wil get me 1...
I don't think the Light Engines will be that big of a game changer.
In table top? Or with locked mech builds? It would be advantageous. in MWO? You'd be sacrificing a not insignificant amount of firepower for survival of a side torso. You'd basically be forcing yourself into the fight longer just to survive a side torso loss, Which might not have been a threat with an XL and bringing increased firepower to the field.
I mean, it still takes crit space in the side torso too, so you wouldn't be able to gain back any internal space using them either.
If they introduce light engines, I think, as everything does, it'll find a niche where it works..but I don't think it'll be a major game changer.
There's also the fact most Clan mechs can nearly two shot anything in the same weight class. Clanners will go CT first the majority of the time and an XL doesn't matter when you get cored. You can't shoot without exposing your CT.
Most IS mechs without massive quirks need the extra firepower to do anything noteworthy before their death. Having a Standard Engine isn't much use when most IS mechs can't boat light, compact energy weapons. A single ballistic will often force you over to an XL.
A higher rated engine also combo's insanely well with Endo, giving you extra Heat Sink slots that help offset the loss of space. You can't stuff IS DHS in your legs, but Endo fits in there, so really you're losing 10 slots which isn't far off from the 7 Clanners have to set aside. Plus you can get at least 50 free extra rating which makes up for the loss of side torso space automatically. Most of the time it only costs an extra ton for an extra heat sink: Std 250 vs XL 325 is 0.5 tons and a Std 300 vs XL 375 is only 1.5 extra tons plus a huge amount of speed and agility.
Basically, taking an XL isn't necessarily a drawback at all depending on your optimal weapon loadout, top engine rating and other factors. I'd imagine Light Fusion Engines would fit much the same way. Some builds would be a good fit while others wouldn't.
For the Clan Wave 3, I did a early preorder of the Arctic Cheetah, then much later upgraded to the Shadow Cat and then later still to the Ebon Jaguar packages.
The only one I actually ordered during the preorder period, the Arctic Cheetah, was the only one that came with the preorder mech bonus delivered.
I think the big part of the problem with that, @Gnome-Interruptus, is PGI selling packages before they seemingly even start on their development.
IIRC there was no art or screenshots to even hint at what the R2 mechs, for example, were going to look like or anything when they put them out there for sale, and I think that's a regular occurrence with PGI

Unless I'm watching that vid wrong, they totally left out the profile view of the Mauler.
And hooray for dynamic hit boxes! That fucker looks mean without the boomboxes on both shoulders!

Yeah I found this in their FAQ.
Q: Can I upgrade from one Resistance 2 Collection to another?
Yes, you may upgrade an existing Resistance 2 Collection order to any higher-tier Collection at any point for the duration of the sale.
Please note that you will only receive the early adopter promotion for the Collection you are upgrading to if you upgrade your Collection before May 31st at 11:59:59 PDT (June 1st 6:59:59 AM UTC).
So looks like I'll hold off on pre-ordering them then. Honestly I understand why they do this, but it sucks if you later decide to upgrade and want to give them money.
Thanks for all the feedback on the XL vs. STD and think I'll just stick with the XL in my King Crab since it'll give me more speed which I like while piloting it.
So finally managed to get a dropdeck together for CW.
my ECM Raven, ERPPC Thunderbolt, and two Grasshoppers.
I should have expected how it'd go, like a wave and a half of arctic cheaters that decimated our first wave and did serious damage to the second.
by then it was all but lost.
god I wish PGI would listen to people who weren't clanners. Every goddamn time IS has a thing to give a fighting chance vs Clans, the Clans cry and it gets removed, Clans get a broken mech that cant be damaged and eh, fuck it, leave it for months.
Any news out of PAX about that new Battletech game, or no?
I don't think they've really started on it yet. They just got shadowrun: HK out the door.
I did talk to His Holiness Jordan Weisman. I know that Solaris PVP matches will be a stretch goal and they plan on doing that via having a few modes like stock only and full custom craziness with BV.
A big bit of news is that mechs won't just be weapons and armor. The player will also get to alter gyros and what not so this will be the most under the hood tinkering Battletech video game ever. The game will feature a SP campaign that then opens up into a more feeeform, open experience and your reputation will matter and affect how other factions treat you. It'll also be 3025 era because Clans ruin everything. I think everything else is known.
I then promptly shoved my debit card into the booth's Square reader and backed the hell out of Battletech.

I'll definitely drop some major cash when they announce this! If I was there I would have done the same in your situation.
One of those options, if I understand it right, is groups cant be bigger than 4 players, and only one of each weight class in the group. which will.. significantly suck for us.
Also, apparently the HBS BT game (is the name of the game just "Battletech" because if so that's going to be a little confusing) is defnitely going to be one lance at your control.
Laaaaammmmeeee. Deflates my boner about it a little bit. Oh it will probably be quite good and I'll stick back it, but with the in-depth mechanics you could still have two lances without the player being overwhelmed or detached from the RPG elements. 8 mechs and their pilots is not that much. I would concede that a full company of 12 is too much though. Even in MC1 bringing a full 12 mechs made it difficult to keep track at times.

Sadly incredibly believable. Basically guaranteed. Again, I don't think this is a "Scumbag HBS" thing but this such an obvious area to expand and monetize through DLC it hurts.
so have we discussed this yet? possible change to group queue team sizes.
im on the fence. after getting my balls kicked over and over by large groups, i almost feel like they should play CW if they want to stomp. Leave the regular group queue for guys that just want to have some fun. But at the same time, it sucks if we have 5 or 6 guys on and have to make separate groups.

I'd imagine they will do a second Battletech release a year later similar to the Shadowrun Dragonfall followup. They mention that they want a lot of focus on the Mechwarriors themselves, so between writing a new engine, tools and developing everything else for a release they probably don't have enough time to write a ton of pilot interactions. Plus its probably a pacing choice, they don't want fights to drag on for hours at a time.
Harebrained hasn't done any game related DLC yet, mostly art and soundtrack downloads. Would their followup game increase the size to 8 units? I don't know. I suppose it would depend on player feedback from the first go around. The Shadowrun games stuck with four runners per mission for all three games I believe (haven't played HK yet). You occasionally control extra characters based on scenario conditions.
There's always a chance they'll change business practices as they get closer to triple-A size, but I don't believe they would abuse Downloadable Content to fundamentally change the format of the game that way. If they do expand to 8 mechs, it'll probably be in a standalone sequel.
