No, it sounds like what happens is some drunken chimps got at the screenplay while nobody was looking and somehow it made it into the final draft and they shot the scenes before anybody noticed their mistake.

Mad that their corporate-minded boss (Tim Blake Nelson) wants to have the initial tests done with NASA astronauts, Reed, Johnny and Victor — giddy from a night of drinking — decide that they’ll secretly strap themselves into the machine and journey to the other realm so that they can get the glory of being the first to step foot on this new world. Impulsively, Reed calls Ben in the middle of the night to join them on the impromptu expedition, figuring that his old friend should be a part of a scientific breakthrough he helped Reed begin long ago.

Marvel shouldn't have cancelled Fantastic Four because short of making it a Brad Meltzer/Rob Linfield joint just about any series they could put out would look absolutely incredible compared to this movie
And what the fuck is up with Josh Trank and stories of child abuse? It was bad enough he made the villain of Chronicle the abused one, but now Ben Grimm, a character who is already angsty enough for obvious reasons needs an abuse back story? The fuck?
I was already suspecting it was gonna be as bad as I feared when the EP did a round of interviews yesterday that were literally him going NO IT ISN'T A DISASTER ITS GOOD REALLY GUYS

I was hoping since the first announcement, I don't know if I outright predicted it, either way I'm happy, now for phase 2 of selling the rights back already!
It was kinda a given it was gonna be a trainwreck though just because their filming and release dates were basically matching the dates they HAD to use to keep the rights.
