    ?

    Activision?

I thought they had Tony Hawk signed up for like, another ten years still or something

EDIT: Just found the tweet, yeah, end of 2015. Shit, that's a bummer. But at least we won't get another THPS game.

the last time they officially commented on their tony hawk deal was in 2002, when they said it would expire in 2015

they could have very well signed something behind the scenes

It definitely feels that way. Most of the problems with this game seem pretty symptomatic of being rushed out the door.

The worst part is that Activision will probably take an axe to that team the moment people stop looking.

This title is fitting, I was so excited for new Tony Hawk, and SOOOOO let down so far by every single facet of the game.

I think I have either Pro 4, or Underground somewhere for Ps3, if I dust that off anyone want to join me?

edit: Found it, it's Proving Ground, eh, wasn't the best, but is still MILES ahead of 5, and we can smash into each other for funsies and play Horse

I think my favorite part of the Quick Look is how the game dumped them to a multiplayer lobby after any mission even when they told it not to

But when they tried to load an actual multiplayer round, it loaded them into an empty instance

Damnit to hell, I was making that joke the other day. Didn't think it was actually true.

edit: now I see that it's not, so, well, right.

Instead, since I only learned in recent years that UK and US releases of THPS had some differences in the soundtracks, here's probably my favourite track from my memories of the game - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BKa4TdobJ4

I've tried to get into the Skate games a few times. I get why people like them, and they seem to be really good games, but they're just not what I want in a skateboarding game.

Like, I get why people would rather have a less simulation based skateboarding game. I'd rather have something so simulation that you have to learn to do moves. That said I'm a huge fan of the first three SSX games and I wish the THPS series went more in that direction or really anything that isn't tacking more combo systems onto mechanics from the first game for a decade and a half.

Also all these levels apparently being skate parks where anything outside of the skatepark is considered out of bounds is like some grim commentary on skateboarding in 2015.

Yeah, but like a new proper SSX game not something where they park a shitty survivalist mechanic in the middle of the face buttons thus completely changing the way the game feels for a gimmick that only appears in like a third of the game.

Nah not really. It means they can do the same thing as a quick look, but in 1/5 the time so it's ACTUALLY a quick look.

cross posting this from the g&t thread that i irroneously created.

i rented the game from redbox because i wanted to see for myself
Ok, i played it for 20 minutes and uninstalled it

-The worst component of the game is the 'stomp'. Instead of pressing triangle/y to grind, you press it to stomp, which slams you to the ground, or on top of a rail if there is one near by. The problem is that you will automatically stomp no matter what, if you ollie, after a second you're character will stomp to the ground, which makes it a lot more difficult to pull of tricks. It also slows you down and in my opinion makes the game kinda jagged and jumpy.

-no trick modifying. I think one of my favorite things in thps 2 was that you could press >>X and do a double kick flip and modify flip tricks this way.

-special meter. Instead of just doing a special move, you activate the meter and get a couple seconds of special moves, if you want to do a double kickflip, it has to be with the special meter on. Don't for the love of god do a grab trick while the special meter is going on however, it will force you to do some mundane grab where you have no idea how to judge and land.

Which brings me to my next point, a small one, but important

-you spin super fucking slow in the air. The biggest spin i could do with full speed and special going was a 360. Barely. I don't know if this is because they want you to build up stats or something, but it really kind of kills your mood when you're skating around, go in the air and your guys slows down for no reason.

-Every time you fall down, instead of just getting up, the screen loads your character a few feet from where you were. Basically they added a mini load screen in the middle of playing the game for any time that you fall down.

-The levels. I only played one level. Instead of the 2 minute game where you try to do as much as possible, and can immediately restart if you want; you are forced into an online free skate. From there you have to select missions ( they have icons that you're supposed to skate to and press x. This doesn't work) So you select some shitty mission from a big list of them, Load. Play the mission for 2 minutes. (and by that i mean, beat the mission after 15 seconds and then you're forced to wait the rest of the time for the mission to end.) then it loads you back into the online free skate and you repeat the process. I did this twice and got frustrated.

-It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to change my skater. And that includes loading into the game, finding out i still had tony hawk, going back, trying to figure it out, load back in, still have him, and get frustrated.

Overall, they just sucked all of the fun out of the game. They tried to make it a little bit more realistic with the stomp components, but that's fucking stupid where you're playing a game that was built around being unrealistic. The one level i played was ok, but doesn't compare to any of the levels in the first few games. The whole thing just feels slower. They changed it so you don't have to hold x to go ( but you still do) and now you can hold right trigger, but again, the stomp component keeps slowing you down and makes the game completely frustrating.

My girlfriend of a year who i was in love with broke up with me last week. I might be more broken hearted about this game.

oh and the graphics were shit but you already knew that

I'm not sure what you're talking about with the stomp being realistic. It makes you fall at a rate faster than the game's normal gravity. I mean, I get that it's supposed to be a stomp where you're extending your legs to make sure you have a solid landing on the bolts but it can happen from any height and this is a game where falling off a curb and a two story building are the same thing.

The whole online hub thing is a good idea executed as poorly as possible. In theory skating around a park full of people before sizing up a challenge is a very natural thing to do. It could even do a lot to alleviate the problems with objectives in previous series entries where you had to find the thing your objective was built around. The C-O-M-B-O lines come to mind as something that could have benefited from this a lot. Instead it seems like a mess of poorly implemented mechanics sandwiched between loading screens.

So, did you know that Tony Hawk 3 for Xbox runs on the 360? Sadly, it's not on the store like Burnout 3, but I bought the disc for £4 and it seems to run perfectly.

And holy shit this game is as awesome as I remember.
