I am not against paying for shortcuts in a game, given that the time it would take to play things normally was not padded out to make those shortcuts more attractive.
But given how Konami has been doing things lately, I have my suspicions about those build times....

I think I'll be fine with just using the free one anyway. I'll be playing this game so much that I don't foresee myself worrying about research speeds.
Unless they changed it from Peace Walker, research happens while you're on missions and the speed is generally determined by the skill of your R&D crew
I don't think there's any sort of realtime component

I watched the Mother Base demonstration video last night and I think I saw a glimpse of some research stuff that had actual time bars showing.

yo konami
generally when you use ftp pricing, the game is actually ftp
also why does this game have more advanced technology than everything else in the mgs universe despite taking place in the 80s
The war economy under the control of the patriots led to technology being stagnant as any new tech would have the potential to be out of their control.
No I don't.

Hot Pepper Gaming review of MGSV: TPP ft. EgoRaptor and Szechuan Peppercorns; Warning a buttload of weird drool and spitting.
Y'know, I still have no idea when this game will actually unlock for me. Like the PSN page said 12 am est, there was another page that said 12 am pst, and the unlock timer is 12 am my time. I figure I'll just start checking tonight and either be pleasantly surprised, mildly surprised, or goddammit I have to sleep guess no game tonight.
I don't think there's any defense for IAPs for a $60 game.
I think it can be fine as long as it's completely unnecessary and it's both possible and practical to get that stuff in-game, and if the IAPs are reasonably cheap
Like say if you can unlock all the characters in a fighting game by traditional ways, or drop a fiver to unlock em all instantly, I don't have a huge problem with that
These are overpriced and as far as we know there's no way to earn coins in-game, which are two strikes against it
Now, if the one free FOB doesn't feel too limiting, then I'm okay with it, because that's dumb but ignorable
If I'm grinding fifty missions to unlock a new gun in the post game because mother base is slow as molasses without bonus fobs, then I have an issue

Especially because full retail console video game prices have been static for nearly 10 years now, in America at least
Which, because of inflation, means they've actually gotten cheaper over time, as the development costs have risen
Devs gotta do something to balance that ledger, and as long as they're not being as nakedly predatory as konami is trying to be I don't really mind them trying to find additional revenue streams
With god as my witness I will beat this game before all of you mother fuckers who got it early
For some reason I want to tell you that right now I'm not even sure I get to play on release day. I bought from a cheap CD key site and haven't gotten my key yet. When I bought Arkham Knight from the same site I had it two days in advance.
and of course the prices of things you buy with funbux are carefully designed to not mesh conveniently with the increments of funbux you are allowed to purchase, that's just basic funbux rip off logic

Still though those prices are obscene

I'm guessing you'll be able to use them to buy stuff for multiplayer when that launches.
You build an extra base to improve research speeds, at the cost of it can be invaded by other players and your stuff can be stolen
If you pay up, you can build more bases to further improve speeds and also have more to defend
It's real easy to ignore
You can apparently use them to speed up construction and research in Mother Base as well. FTP mechanics ho!
those prices, though... you should not have to pay more than the base game for all iterations of that, that's nuts
But given how Konami has been doing things lately, I have my suspicions about those build times....

Absolutely yeah, hopefully they're not essential because the FOB stuff looked awesome

Cause I doubt I'm gonna do the FOB stuff much either way

I'm going to let this one slow burn. Take my time and savour (with the extra 'u' for emphasis) the final Metal Gear Solid that will ever be.
Steam ID XBL: JohnnyChopsocky PSN:Stud_Beefpile WiiU:JohnnyChopsocky
With how huge this game is, I'll have plenty of time for savoring when I'm trying to s rank all the missions on hard mode

My own personal game and the one I'll be playing with my friend for the Youtubes.
I did this with Arkham Knight and somehow managed to 100% both files and not get burned out.
So I'm hopeful this won't kill me!
On the plus side, the sheer amount of options you seem to have will probably go a long way to making the repeat playthroughs fresh.

Maybe I should write to their support.
Also, I just worked out the math
Buying 100 coins costs $1.65, or 0.0165 cents per coin
Buying 6,000 coins costs $79.95, or 0.013325 cents per coin
In other words, you're only getting a 20% discount for buying 60 times as many coins
Which, maybe it's just because the prices are so high to begin with, but that seems like a shitty discount
