Wow, you aren't kidding when you mention the vocals. I've not heard much Scorpions beyond their big hits, but he sounded nothing like the guy in those songs. So I looked it up and realized he's not singing on this song, but their lead guitarist.

Scabbia sounds insanely good as always and the music is a nice change of pace, but it feels a little more like generic Roadrunner fare now.
What the... do I really... is it possible that.. I like Lacuna Coil again?
It's actually quite a refreshing listen. The album is dark and heavy, and there's quite a few moments like the chorus of House of Shame where that woman's voice makes my hairs stand up.

I love Lacuna Coil's stuff up through Comalies, but they started to lose me after that. I don't think I've even listened to an album of theirs since Karmacode. I'll have to check this out.

This is my second playthrough of Delirium and it's actually growing on me. I already kinda enjoyed it the first time.
Cristina Scabbia is seriously amazing in this. Her vocals are just mindblowing, especially at the end of the title track.
If I had a complaint, it would be the overuse of djent. Fortunately, riff complexity has never really been a Lacuna Coil thing, and the overall song compositions are strong enough (and the hooks sharp enough) that it really doesn't matter.
Let's see. Soilwork, Chimaira, and now Lacuna Coil all lose their principal, long time guitarists and all manage to release seriously impressive work after a lull period.

I was listening to a Sentenced album in the car today, and it struck me: whatever happened to Birgit Zacher? She sang on a few Century Media releases in the mid- to late-90s and her voice always stuck out. Not in a good way, really. But it was just so weird that she ended up on so many albums.

I always thought that was an interesting situation. Was she brought onto those records last minute by the label? Was she big in the Euro scene? She was primarily on Gothic metal stuff from what I remember, but the bands were from different countries. At least she got to be on the two greatest Tiamat discs!

Aw man, I go look up Chastain'sFor Those Who Dare on Spotify, and they have it... sort of. All the songs have the label "Alternate Mix" in the title, and it's missing the cover of "Barracuda."
OK - That was fucking amazing - talk about killer thrash! For some reason I never really got into Death Angel, but that track is drawing me in like crazy! Have the last three really been of that quality, because that would constitute a major oversight on my part. Thanks for the post @autothrall.

1) Judas Priest and early KD/MF took me forever to get into and honestly Beavis and Butthead's mockery kept me from giving Judas Priest a serious listen until 2 years ago, when the discography reviews at FTDR convinced me that I must have been missing something. When I finally got to Painkiller, my head actually exploded. KD/MF got me with Melissa, but eventually Don't Break The Oath became my go-to, though everything he was involved in up to and including Time are amazeballs must-have timeless classics.
2) You can't just up and triple the posts/day on a guy, Heshers. I'm too accustomed to a Funeral Doom pacing, rather than the sludge tempo that's been achieved. Just warn a guy, K? :P
3) Glad to read some serious Fallujah hype! So good!!

Their 1987 debut album The Ultra-Violence is still their best, but has a much more brash, raw and evil feel to it that doesn't resemble much of what they do now save for the vocals. Then again, they were only KIDS when they recorded that album.
The last three (including this new album) have all been solid efforts of more modernized thrash, but possessing vital energy that proves to me they really wanted to be back and kick some ass. The stuff BETWEEN the debut and that point is much more marginal. There are a few decent tunes on almost all the albums, but they're not consistent (not even Act III, which was their 'hit' album when it came out because of regular video play for "Seemingly Endless Time").

Currently Stam1na's Elokuutio, is my top 2016 pick for Proggy-type metal, though Haken's Affinity and Elokuutio swap spots from time-to-time.
This Icelandic group just kills it, and I'm rather addicted to their fusion of Prog/Thrash/Heavy Metal. The guitars and keys have great balance and it is pretty damn heavy, but also uses contrast very well in tempo, harshness, and volume, of course the riffs slay as well!
Edit x2: @autothrall, I've not found The Ultra-Violence to be as compelling as many, compared to my favorite thrash albums, despite owning it and revisiting several times. The "classic" production holds it back for me, but I probably just need to play with the EQ more and I've not given up on it (that did the trick on Deception Ignored).
Although it is blasphemy (yay!), I tend to prefer modern thrash recordings, because guitar tones (while still restrained compared to many other genres of metal) are much more fleshed out and capture the full range of output better (especially rhythm guitars), where older thrash recordings tend to portray the guitars with very little tonality, comparatively speaking. A lot of the meat is in the down-tuned rhythm guitars and classic production tends to downplay exactly that range, or overshadow that range with all the stuff going on in the high end. Granted, nearly all my favorite thrash is old-school, because of the great writing and riffs, etc., but I still need to heavily tweak the EQ (like -10 DB to treble and + 2 DB to bass or something) to really enjoy those albums fully.
Anyway, I'll definitely check out their most recent releases, now that their back on my radar and I'll continue to revisit The Ultra-Violence!

I found the youtube video kinda jarring, the styles being so radically different.
The album puts that problem to rest, the 1st song being purely gospel style (though still dark as sin) and then gently bringing in the other styles.
