Several people here have asked why Carson is popular. It is rather simple: He is the polite version of Trump.
The Weekly Sift had a good write-up on him and his Stump Speech. (http://weeklysift.com/, can't recommend this site enough).
There is a large group in the US who puts an enormous value on being polite, having the right tone etc. To them, Trump is a blowhard and his antics are a turnoff. Carson on the other hand is not. His demeanor is extremely appealing, despite what he says is as asinine as anything Trump pumps out. Also, Carson relies far more on religious imagery in his speeches than Trump does, so I assume Carson got the religious people who like everything Trump says really but can't stand him not being overly into Jesus.
Unfortunately I'm about to leave work to get home in time for the main event, so gonna miss most of this, so keep this thread entertaining for my bus ride, folks. :P

There's not really any other explanation that doesn't strain credulity, since A) Carson hasn't expressed anything remotely approaching policy and many of his assertions and beliefs are empirically false.
