now that said, i like the kiora vs dack thief spat because it is a great example of showing vs telling
strictly speaking, dack has stolen more. but we don't give a shit about a single thing he stole.
meanwhile, the Bident of Thassa exists. it's a card, right there. we played with it. we see Thassa use it. it is a Thing That Is Real And Concrete rather than "yeah he stole this gauntlet on theros, and this dagger on ravnica, and blah blah blah". and then kiora just takes it, yoink. that is far more narratively effective than just introducing things that exist for the sole purpose of dack fayden stealing them in a comic series.
also, kiora is cooler than dack.

It's my first time here, interviewing for a postdoc position at UW. Just got to my hotel near campus, and right now what I'm into is calories since I haven't eaten in eight hours. Later today I'll probably take the bus downtown and wander around a bit. Tomorrow is the interview day and that's booked pretty solid through the evening, and then I fly back to Minneapolis mid-afternoon Friday.
Anyway, I shouldn't derail the thread any more. I don't have any particular objectives for when I head downtown later on, just want to see what the city is like and probably grab some good dinner. Could move it to PMs.
From the sealed pools I've proxied so far, BFZ limited feels like it defaults to 18 lands. Many aggressive decks can be built at 17 lands, though. And some others might even want 19.

one of the things that's disappointing about magic's talk of focusing the storyline and stuff is that you know it's all going to be meaningful stakes stuff, there's never actually going to be a small, self-contained story about like some planeswalkers just trying to have a heist on a cool new world, even though the faster block rotation actually makes that kind of story even easier to tell
