I really like the 100 but I also would not be heartbroken if it ended after this season or next season because so many awful things keep happening and I'd like to imagine that some of these characters will get a moment to just, you know, live

or the series will end with everyone getting nuked or something, who knows

We're talking about shows that go on to long and no one mentioned the shambling corpse that is Supernatural?

The creator/main showrunner left (because his story was done) at the end of season five. They are currently on season eleven.

With that said, Season 11 has actually been...weirdly strong so far. It's crazy.

you are not tricking me into watching supernatural again

I'm still watching Supernatural for some goddamn reason, and yeah, this season is the best it's been in a long time. There's something dumb that's been bothering me about Supernatural: why is Crowley's throne room so crappy? It took me a few seasons to register that it was in Hell. I was thinking it was in a warehouse or a sewer or something.

So that Mac and Dennis moving to the suburbs episode of Always Sunny was stellar. Go 20 seasons! I'm okay with this.

For a second, I got this confused with Always Sunny discussion, assumed those were nicknames for Mac and Dennis, and figured that, yes. That is something they would do.

I've watched a lot of tv, and I've watched a lot of so called prestige drama which at least until very recently has largely been driven by examinations of masculinity or through a patriarchal lens.

But I've never seen a show that was so thoughtlessly, needlessly, consistently cruel to it's female characters as Supernatural.

I might be biased as a massive Larry David fan, but I thought this week's Saturday Night Live was pretty great.

First five seasons aside, that's kind of when the fanbase (or at least the most vocal) started controlling the show. You know, the ones that got made fun of at one point for liking "slash". Before that... shitty horror movie trope I guess?

I watched 5 episodes of the hundo this weekend so I could have some context for this thread again

i deem this show both pretty stupid, and pretty watchable

it's a good thing i'd been forewarned about the badness of that first ep though, after "we're back, bitches!!!!" and octavia just generally behaving like she's auditioning for a part in wild things

This could have easily gone in movies thread too, because they've been just as guilty lately.

    It's a dumb complaint, but I'm getting SOOOOOO tired, when a show does/has a flashback/prequel type episode/season.

And they use a character that 100% you know survives past this flashback/prequel era, but we've still gotta waste an hour playing with "could they actually die ?" even when the answer is a guaranteed, "Nope"

Just, I don't know, completely removes all the tension they are trying so desperately to cram into the scene.

Rachel and I finished the first season of American Horror Story last night. That final episode was actually pretty fun.

Overall it's a... terrible show, but terrible in kind of an entertaining way. We'll move on to season 2 at some point but I think I want to watch something that's actually good.

  • JoshmviiJoshmvii Registered User regular
I think it's possible to do flashback episodes that are good even if the stakes are low for the main character. For example, even though I think where they placed it in the season was terrible, I think the walking dead's Morgan flashback where we got to meet Eastman and find out how Morgan came to adopt his annoying pacifist philosophy was fantastic. Eastman was a better character than most of TWD's main cast, and even though we all knew his fate and Morgan's going into the episode, it was still a really good episode of TV.

We watched the first episode of iZombie last night and was surprised to find it pretty stereotypical run of the mill awful. Terrible dialogue, boring acting, a script done so many times in so many other shows I'm surprised they weren't sued for it... I'm amazed that all I've heard about it was positive.

Then we switched over to Sensitive Skin and loved it.
