I didn’t own an actual genesis controller with six buttons so the only way I could beat comix zone was by using the flipping nomad
Holy shit you beat Comix Zone? Was that harder than passing the bar?
Only 3 living people have beat comix zone.
2 of them were Jesus
Assuming we're talking about Yeshua and not a 'heyzeus', then 'living' precludes the Holy Ghost, so I guess we know which two forms of the J-man get credit.
Edit: shoot, did not want TOTP with this bad joke.

I used to use a Nomad as my Mega Drive and kept it hooked to my TV. Sadly the system was flaky as fuck and would randomly stop outputting to the TV or recieving power.
I never knew beating comix zone was supposed to be so hard. There were a few bullshit sections, but it never really seemed that bad.
Its probably moderately difficult as far as brawlers go but theres also no saves which is what makes it kind of a chore
The real shitter with Comix Zone is that punching open stuff hurts you. So you can get all the way to a door you need to break but not have enough life to open the damn thing.
I kept going back to the games i have beaten multiple times as a kid only to wonder how the heck did I do it in the first place
Like I have fond memories of beating an untranslated version of a doraemon jrpg on the gameboy
Also I thought comix zone was the coolest thing ever and didn't know it was supposed to be a hard game
The hardest game in my younger days was Megaman X, I got stuck for more than a year because I didn't know dash jump was a thing and tried to get over obstacles using boss weapons
The furthest I ever got in Comix Zone was some temple level where you get to a panel where you have to fight a whole ton of enemies and I could never make it.
The hardest game I had as a kid was Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure. I could never even beat the very first level.
Sonic 1's not too different in difficulty from Sonic 3, but a bit clunky feeling with no spin dash. Sonic 2's not that bad until you get to the end when it makes you run a final boss gauntlet with no rings, I don't think I've ever beat it legitimately. Sonic CD I have not played enough to have an opinion. Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) is definitely my favorite overall.
Sonic Mania looks pretty good too but I haven't played it myself. Sonic After The Sequel is a real nice fan-made game I recommend.

S3&K's main differences from the others in terms of difficulty are the save function, and that it gives you way more extra lives than 1 or 2 despite also introducing the save function. Although the special stages are on par with Sonic 2's (both are more fun and more skill-based than the original game's imho), I find S3&K's method of accessing them makes it a lot easier to get all the emeralds before the end.
I used to beat Sonic 2 easily when I was a kid and it was one of only 4 games that I owned. I have no idea how, because any time I try that game now the end game destroys me.
Only time I've finished sonic 2 is after my ex played through all the game except death egg while supplying me with like 23 lives.
Then you just throw yourself angrily at Robotnik for an hour.

One time I got up to Death Egg Zone, beat Metal Sonic and was heading into the final boss fight with more confidence than ever before, when all of a sudden ma' commanded we go out for dinner. So I turned off the TV, surreptitiously covered the power light on the Mega Drive, and went out for some good eats. Returned several hours later and... uh. I may have lost again.

Fortunately, several versions of the first game have added the Spin Dash.

So how come the Sonic comics treated Heavy and Bomb as heroes?
They were clearly punishments for failing the crane minigame, that's why there were multiples of them and you couldn't directly play as them without cheats. And they handicapped you in all but specific situations.
It's literally Robotnik chaining you to one of his badniks to hinder you. He either chains you to a actual dead weight or a bomb that explodes and hurts you if it touches anything.

Best bit of S3&K has to be getting all the emeralds before Hydrocity's Act 2 boss, going super sonic and then standing still and letting him kill himself like a chump.

Assuming you're referring specifically to the Archie comics (I don't think Heavy and Bomb were featured as such in Fleetway's Sonic the Comic), the name of the author for the Knuckles Chaitix special where they were introduced should probably explain everything.
Heck, they didn't even look right until much later.

I had honestly forgotten that was from that account. My bad.

Yeah, uh, you can skip that fight in the temple, or at least take a route that trivialized it
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
so the youtube channel SiIvaGunner, which does video-game themed mashups, has had an enormous Jet Set Radio takeover this week, including a pretty stunning DJ Professor K voice actor doing bumps. lots of JSR mixes, a few original tracks in that style, and lots of other Sega games and other games with similar aesthetics or Naganuma soundtracks
Hideki Naganuma himself also hinted yesterday after some speculation that yes, one of the remixes posted on the channel was by him, uncredited
Naganuma's been on a big family guy kick for the last few months on twitter for some reason too
I think it's one half that he actually likes Family Guy, and the other half is him being very self-aware that it had near-instant meme status among his twitter following

Some notable exceptions off the top of my head are Battletoads and the Capcom Dungeons & Dragons games.
Probably similar prep times because it took months of prep to beat that fucking thing.
I replaced it with a CDX.

Play Sonic 3 & Knuckles if you can, it's got the best variety of stages & gameplay of the original 3, and it's also the easiest imho.

That must be what they did to Rieko Kodama.

The current front-runner in the speculation as to which track is this incredibly high-quality shitpost:

Anyway the stream is still live for another couple hours, I cannot guarantee all audio is SFW, but it's generally instrumental

It's basically a JSR anime in all but name.
