Now I've thought about current Shining Force and I'm really depressed.
One day a spiritual revival will be done, if not direct, taking a cue from Sonic Mania.
Until then we will always have Reynolds fell asleep.
Reynolds is poisoned.
Reynolds is stunned.
I also found some hot takes and dank memes about Heroes season 1 while locating those...

Goddamn I can't believe you still have that stuff on hand. I still have the source material stored away, but recompiling it to be readable would be quite some work. I wish the damn file didn't break so I could finish it.
It's all buried years back in my Photobucket account, next to a PA game card for @The Lovely Bastard and one about @Munkus Beaver being the best WoW tank. Ever.
My character was the bard, and when Henroid was ICly describing the party discovering the Etrian Odyssey map mechanics he described the bard drawing the map on some spare sheet music. I picked a happy song because the character had a really happy portrait. Which carried over into my assigned character in Shining Force II being the one with the biggest smile.
Also that's a pretty accurate map of the first dungeon in Etrian Odyssey IV? I either booted up my own copy or looked up the map online.

Oh my god I'd forgotten.
Speaking of Etrian Odyssey the fifth one is finally coming out in North America, no hard date yet but it's this fall.

ah, neat. Well done.
I was hoping it was something like this, because there's something fascinating in the idea and I may explore it further

Nah, it's end of Oct. The preview videos have it at the end.

Wait. What's this now?

Apparently Etrian Odyssey II (I was a bit off there) was in 2009. Featuring this quote from me, before I'd played any of the games:
"If I can handle Demon's Souls, I should be able to handle this."

So you're saying if we raise taxes the English version of PSO 2 will finally come out? Hmm...
But Skies of Arcadia HD/PC will never come out in exchange.
Choose wisely.
It's Skies, Skies is the right choice.
I love JRPGs, the Dreamcast and the Gamecube. I've never played Skies of Arcadia.
PSO all the way.
Skies lets you fire a giant harpoon at other airships and giant mecha monsters to disable/distract them.
You then upgrade to a laser powered by six moons.
The first of the mecha monsters you obliterate with the Moonstone Cannon results in the evil empire going "fuuuuuck thiiiiis!"
Yeah! let's play Skies of - A random encounter occurs!"
Has anyone compiled a comparison chart of the random encounter rates of various jrpgs? It seems like that's the sort of thing that would just spontaneously materialize.
Bear — Blows away enemies with a homing attack
Bird — Flies high with double jump abilities
Cat — Keeps one ring after being hit
Dog — Restarts with five rings after the player dies
Hedgehog — Collects rings when getting damaged
Rabbit — Has longer invincible time after receiving damage
Wolf — Automatically draws in rings when near them
i grew up on fleetway sonic and the canon story is that ivo kintobor was a friendly scientist who took sonic (a lazy brown hedgehog with normal spines) under his wing and gave him experimental stuff like his sneakers
he was testing a high speed treadmill and sonic broke the sound barrier which caused him to turn blue and fuse his spines
kintobor was also studying the chaos emeralds and one day sonic tripped over a wire near the machine holding the emeralds while he was taking a rotten egg to the trash
the resulting explosion of chaos + rotten eggs turned kintobor into ovi 'eggman' robotnik
see it was in a comic so it has to be true
Close; Ovi Kintobor and Ivo Robotnik.
And the story didn't originate with Sonic the Comic, but rather a promotional comic featured in a number of American (maybe European, too?) magazines a couple of years prior, before/around the launch of the first game. People commonly associate it with Disney Adventures, but it was in other stuff like Garfield and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles magazines as well.
I'd be more annoyed if it wasn't so easy. I'm kinda disappointed that
There doesn't appear to be a two player Mean Bean Machine mode. Maybe there is, but I haven't collected enough blue spheres.
Also, there was all that hype about a new move in Sonic Mania? I've played half the game and have no idea how to do it.
The only move I've found new is some kind of drop dash thing? Like, if I'm airborne I can hit... uh... great, I can't even remember the button labels. But I jump with A, hit X (I think), there's a whir sound like a spin dash, and then ZOOM when I land?
Same button works, but the fact I had to look it up online wasn't a great thing. There should really be an in-game manual.
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
Sonic Mania seems pretty good! So far it's just a remake, I guess there's other stuff later.
the majority of the game is based on old levels
most of the levels follow the basic structure of, act 1 is a bigger, remixed version of the original level, and act 2 turns the level on its head in some weird way
Also! The old levels that seem identical aren't exactly identical. If the original level layouts are burned into your head, Sonic Mania will make you question your memory.

You basically can't even tell that didn't come from a cut level of SA2.

The problem there is it'll probably still have modern Shining Force art.

Nah, still the Labyrinth and Carnival Night zones. (The Robotnik fight in Casino Night gets an honorable mention but isn't quite as egregious)
I had no idea that I had been training for this over the last several months
I unknowingly played like half the game in the slot that doesn't save so now I have to start over
