God, they look so young on those thumbnail images. My entire exposure to them in my childhood was with their contemporary (for the 80s), much-older incarnations.
Man, queued up to buy some tickets to that Rage Against the Machine + Run the Jewels concert/tour! And they sold out while I was in the queue! Oh well. It looks like the tickets were probably out of my price range anyway. Still, time to listen to some RatM and RtJ!
The single biggest problem with online ticketing is all the scalpers, plus the general instability of many platforms under heavy traffic. Same goes for limited edition consoles, I remember I had a squad of three people all trying to preorder the 500 million PS4 and only one of us could get it in the cart and buy it before it sold out. I got my Animal Crossing switch because the preorder for best buy went up randomly one night when I was up late, but that's sold out pretty fast too.
I saw RTJ front row live at ACL in Austin. It's a bit easier to get tickets for festivals over single venue shows, but that brings in it's own issues such as... If you get the front row at a fest you CANNOT MOVE all day long. Get ready to piss into water bottles right next to strangers so you can see everyone without losing your spot.
I can’t do it any more. I think the last one was 10-11 years ago for Kanye at Lollapalooza, and it was rough. I was 26ish at the time, so I can’t imagine trying to pull that off now.
Even if you set aside trying to drink in that position, how does one stay hydrated? These were not concerns of mine in 2009, clearly.
It's definitely better if you plan ahead. I remember begging a security guard for water and he gave me a can of water discreetly. It can be really scary in a huge crowd in the middle of the summer and everyone is moving and jumping. It's fun but a bit much for me to do regularly.

Yeah I don't even try anymore. I think the last time I did was Sum 41 like a eight years ago.
Got to like third row center. Lasted three songs before limping my old out of shape ass outside to lay on the pavement :P

I couldn't access Bandcamp for much of the day (which was a good sign, I guess). But Gavin Castleton put up a new single/pre-order in the evening, so I did my civic duty and whiled away the long wait to put some money down.
By the sound of the opening track, it's a return to the complex pop arrangements of Home, bolstered by support from current & former bandmates; seems like his stint in The Dear Hunter has inspired him to be a bit more traditionally bombastic, more comfortable using harmony our ears can anticipate, while still flexing rhythmically.

New Childish Gambino dropped in a weird way by streaming on his site on loop for a few days before officially releasing and it's just a mix of styles from Awaken My Love and Because of the Internet. Has a bit of awkward programming in it a la Odd Future or Tyler.
Forgive me if you've mentioned this a bunch of times, but I discovered The 500 Podcast about 4 months ago.
It's hosted by a comedian who is going through the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums, in order, 1 album each week.
He brings in a guest who has particular association with each album, to listen to it with him and discuss. Some guests so far include Bert Kreischer, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Wanda Sykes, multiple members of Devo (in separate episodes), Peter Billingsley (the main char from Christmas Story), Judd Apatow, and Dana Gould.
I've admittedly skipped a few but I've listened to most so far (he's at roughly #435).
I had interest in music, but this series is making me appreciate it more and more. Give it a listen if you get a chance. Pick a few of the albums you know of and go along for the ride.
The new Waxahatchee album is good stuff. I think I like they're older grungy stuff a little more, but they have made a solid turn into country/folk territory.
IMO Heart does it best, but I still like After Forever's take on Heart's song. After Forever put their own stamp on it, whereas Celine Dione lifts it without really seeming to make any meaningful changes and without managing to impart the same emotion even though her voice is otherwise flawless.

New August Burns Red album dropped today. They're one of my favorite metal-core bands and this album is an immediate favorite that I'm sure to play out over the next week or so. Lots of fun heavy tracks and technical riffery happening.
Abigail is fluent in mandarin and switches between chinese and english. Wu and Abi also trade achingly sad lyrics of their respective traditional songs.
I'm grateful for the new stuff because as a fan of Bill Laswell and Mick Harris, Trent's Ghost albums are right up my alley. This could not have been better timed.

I'm normally not high on most covers, but I find myself likeing these versions of Guren no Yumiya as much, if not more than Linked Horizon's original:
top ten influences musically for me. i'd probably be a different person if i hadn't known his music
Allegedly a voice of reason.

I've been listening to lots of BTBAM in prep for the May show, but I expect it will get postponed. This is still my favorite song from them, it runs the fucking gamut of technical and progressive metalcore.

Not the greatest DP song, but Maia still has a gorgeous voice.
These eurobeat remixes are so good.
