BvS also started pushing tickets and that ridiculous season pass a long time ago. It's got little competition, and it's a holiday weekend. And it has Batman in it. Their opening weekend is safe.
Still, in an age of big superhero movies, the fact that they put (arguably) the biggest two superheroes of all time together in a big theatrical movie for the first time and it got critical ripped apart like this is rather sad. How do you screw up that badly?

Because critics are actually humorless snobs who have an axe to grind against blockbuster movies, you see
I am distinctly aware that R = less money, hence my caveat about it not reaching DP status as a hard R (which I honestly thought they were going with. I've been sick for a few weeks and still am, I'm a little behind on some of this 'news')
there's not really any news to be behind on, though
it was always going to be pg-13, long before Deadpool came out

The current estimate, factoring in review buzz, for BvS is to have a 160 million opening weekend. Which is pretty dang big!
But there's also room for error and estimates to be off and word of mouth to spread and so one
But evidently one thing that analysts are agreeing on is that if it can't clear Deadpool's 131 million opening weekend then WB is going to go into panic mode

MovieBob's (apparently spoiler heavy) review is up.
EDIT: Yep, there are some heavy spoilers in this. Namely, regarding the ending. In the incredibly unlikely event you want to go into BvS blind, you'll want to skip this.

Literally the only thing that makes me want to see this movie at all is that apparently there's a scene where Lois and Clark are at home and they're talking about the weight of being Superman? Or something like that, and I love that shit and lap it all up. Also Amy Adams is apparently in the bath? I confess, I am but a weak mortal soul when it comes to Amy Adams.
But that's like, it? The only reason I want to see this at all is due to some sort of caveman like urge which really is quite demeaning, and a slight hope that maybe one scene will evoke a kind of presentation of the superhuman in a manner I find interesting. The story, the characters, all that stuff? Nah. And even then if it was a cool action movie then okay but Snyder directs such shit fake CGI saturated, plastic-y, weightless action scenes that I don't even want to see the fights.

Yeah I bet he's very happy with his work, honestly
I'm slowly becoming convinced that Zack Snyder is the result of a government experiment designed to clone Michael Bay.
Except instead of going horribly wrong, the project succeeded catastrophically, and now we're all stuck with it.
i know this is a joke, but Snyder and Bay were actually classmates in film school
This makes so much sense.
Bay directed the Aaron Burr 'Got Milk'? commercial from the 90s.
He gets a pass.
People keep telling me about this commercial, and having never seen it, this commercial would probably need to achieve total peace in the Middle East for me to even give Michael Bay a chance.
If it make under 600 million that might really upset some plans. I don't know though, seems like it's on track to do ok.
Yeah it isn't going to flop
But WB is banking on it being a gigantic smash hit that ushers in its movieverse and that almost certainly isn't happening
Like it had a quarter billion dollar budget and a massive advertising campaign
Anything less than a billion is gonna feel like a failure to them. Not a big enough one to change course, though.
There are Batman and Superman cereal
not a Batman And Superman cereal
there are Batman cereal and Superman cereal and the boxes are embossed and glittery
also after seeing Deadpool an entire month ago I spent 30 minutes in the fun-merchandise section of HMV and there was BvS shit everywhere. More of it than Star Wars (which admittedly was in its zeitgeist downtime). And definitely no Deadpool anywhere even though it came out that week-end.
I bought a box of the Batman cereal actually. I believe it's chocolate and strawberry (I haven't cracked into it yet). One of my favorite parts of being a grown up is being able to buy whatever cereal I want.
I am one of those rare people that is actually a big fan of Matrix Reloaded
It had some serious missteps, but I thought the questions it was asking, the ideas it was flirting with, the cinematography, the universe building, were all great
Revolutions left a real sour taste in my mouth. It felt more like a Michael Bay movie than anything else.
But there were bits and pieces in Reloaded and Animatrix that I really, really dug
For me, the first Matrix film created a bunch of characters I cared about, and then Reloaded and Animatrix created a world I found really interesting
I would un-ironically look forward to another film set in that universe, assuming the right people are at the helm
Tasteticle on
Uh-oh I accidentally deleted my signature. Uh-oh!!

Not even a solid pass, just a chance.
I remember feeling like I had just seen a new kind of commercial.
Like, it was bizarrely significant to me at a relatively young age as something that had not been done before.
Hahahahaha wow. I guess a handicam rip of BvS Is already out there as I just saw some gifs from the film.
The OBLIGATORY JUSTICE LEAGUE CAMEOS bit is straight up hilarious
Like
Each of the clips are on a hard drive and have the character's logos as their icon in the folder ready to go and have absolutely no bearing on the plot
It is 2 minutes of nothing but HEY WE ARE DOING JUSTICE LEAGUE YOU GUYS FOR REAL LOOK AT THIS

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
I still feel the lingering tendrils of "go see this train wreck and have fun getting righteously indignant" but I'm really more coasting towards... despair, now?
An even less charitable way to put it is that a clearly excited 7- or 8-year-old kid sitting in front of me busted out crying and had to be whisked out of the theater by his father within the first five minutes. Perhaps he was unnerved by the harsh, operatic violence of Bruce Wayne’s parents getting murdered—the mom’s pearls get tangled around the gun, somehow, which allows for some very tight and poignant slow motion—or maybe he was offended by the notion that a 2016 Batman movie felt it necessary to depict Bruce Wayne’s parents getting murdered. Either way, this kid bounced. (As an unsubtle metaphor for the aging target audience for comic-book movies, this is nonetheless way subtler than anything in the film itself.) I felt really terrible for that kid immediately, and was mildly envious of him two hours and 25 minutes later.

Goyer and Snyder!
Batman kills lots of people with guns and Superman loses help in himself and humanity and threatens to kill Batman!

The preview image is so perfect I don't feel like you have to watch the video
there's not really any news to be behind on, though

Look on the bright side.
At least it's boring!
YES YES YES YES

Justice League starts shooting next month
Steam
Or if Snyder just blocked all the proposed changes to Goyer's version or something.
like new avengers
new avengers is a good book
Well they can delay that and retool for one thing.
I love love love loved Hawkeye in this issue
I'd watch justice league if for the entire run of the film you could hear zack snyder screaming quietly in the distance
I think everyone knows it's kind of a mess
Steam
Oh my goodness that was an absolute thrashing
Dunning–Kruger effect.

I don't like movie bob at all
but the phrase "this movie makes me feel old and very tired" is how I feel when people tell me how much they love MoS
so he nailed that bit
