I think I'm missing the context of that being fucked up
The Zoe Quinn thing
Five Guys is what Fuckhead from Firefly and other Gamergaters referred to her as
If it weren't for that bit I would have written it off as just another thing that people unnecessarily add "-gate" to, in fact I didn't quite catch it at first
I think I'm missing the context of that being fucked up
The whole Gamer Gate thing started with a harassment campaign towards her, which took on the name "Five Guys" before switching to a more general harassment of all women/minorities in games with Gamer Gate.
No I don't.

That's probably been the closest, but the daughter is never really on screen with her mom, and they never really team up or interact. It's a completely cutscene relationship. There is no mom version of The Last Of Us. There is no mom version of a Big Daddy hoisting a little sister onto his shoulder to protect her from an attacking swarm of splicers and keep her out of harm's way as he fills the room with bullets and fire?
The only time you see mamma bear rage in games is when it's like, a mamma deathclaw who is pissed that you stole her deathclaw eggs. It would be cool to embody the mamma bear.
I really doubt anyone actually wants to explain the whole thing, honestly I hate spreading it since it's something that hurts her the more it's spread.
I thought I was pretty up-and-up on the GG debacle and even I didn't know about the "Five Guys" nomenclature.
I'm assuming it was put in by one of the translators/localizers who had a beef and whoever was checking the script wasn't aware of the reference being made.

It is absolutely innocuous enough on its own to slip by
"Five Fun Guys" (because they're mushrooms get it) and "something-gate" are harmless on their own
Nintendo has made the wrong choice repeatedly lately, including the Allison Rapp stuff
Honestly with how they handle themselves I think of Nintendo as the least likely publisher to make reparations or apologize when they do something offensive
The other publishers might not actually mean it but I don't think Nintendo cares enough to lie
It doesn't hurt to write in regardless. Even if you don't think it will help, it might.

I don't see this as the same thing though. This isn't a "decision made by Nintendo" it's a line a localizer came up with that no one on the corporate approval ladder knew enough to catch.
Yeah, this isn't a hate mob getting a company to investigate an employee and then leaving them out int he cold and then firing them at the end of the investigation. this is basically the same level as pokemon being filled with something awful memes, on the corporate level anyway.

I don't blame anyone for not catching it right away, it's pretty subtle
But as with most things, it's what they do about it now that matters.
I mean, I followed everything related to the Zoe Quinn/Goobergable stuff pretty closely for about two months straight, and the reference went over my head
I can understand an editor not catching it
But now it's very much about whether or not Nintendo actually does anything about it
I would hope it results in whatever human garbage fire who wrote it getting fired, because fuck everything to do with that; just knowing they let someone in their studio who thinks that "joke" is funny taints the company in my view, let alone viewing those images with the context of what happened to Alison Rapp

alright, honest question: what if the human garbage fire had no idea about it or it completely slipped their mind?

No one should get fired for accidentally causing this. Nintendo should respond though.

I personally suspect it was unintentional
I'm also not about to go to bat for the joke in question because intentional or not it's still super hurtful to someone who had an organized hate campaign attempt to ruin her life
I don't honestly know what the best response here is, they probably ought to respond somehow, I don't totally expect them to do so however

The best response is "It's come to our attention that this inappropriate dialog made its way into our game. We are removing/replacing these lines and investigating how this came about. We apologize for any offense this has caused."
I paid fairly close attention to that stuff and it went right over my head. Didn't know about the five guys thing, and I didn't correlate -gate with gramblergoobs since we as a people have added -gate to enough things by now that it loses all meaning.
Bad situation for Nintendo but I assume they will plug their ears and hope it goes away on it's own. Yay corporations.

I have a difficult time believing that it was an accident; the reference is just too direct
In general, if it was accidental, then sure, do internal disciplinary action, make a public statement, patch it out of the game if possible, do some visible attempts to expand the diversity of your dev teams to ensure that you have better quality control
But I sincerely don't feel that this specific set of data lets you do much more than say "this had to be intentional", given the Five Guys, career-ending and -Gate references
Five Guys was the name of the very first thread the boyfriend in question made about Zoe and it all sprialed from there
Then when it was blocked five guys was the code word they used to get around moderators cracking down on that shit

I think it's about the whole person trading sex for reviews nonscandal-scandal that wasn't even true
that or how 3 MTG pros were banned for cheating with how they shuffled their decks
Oh, jesus christ
That's fucked up!

but yeah, I can't think of much
story went she had sex with five men while still with her ex.
I really doubt anyone actually wants to explain the whole thing, honestly I hate spreading it since it's something that hurts her the more it's spread.
Patrashcu's the only person from IS I've seen who seems even vaguely comfortable with english, so I'd be very surprised if it was in there at first
Wait? I thought it worked at some robotics firm, and was fired for that?

EDIT: Nevermind
Still
This is something I would certainly Write Nintendo About

If ya wanna bend the ear of NOA's crew (this'd be under Corporate Questions I figure)
I tagged Patrick Klepek and Austin walker about it
I severely doubt lodging a complaint with Nintendo will do anything but someone writing about it might
Being unfair? Maybe not. But if enough people complain about a line in their game, they'll likely be motivated to "avoid controversy".
