What browser do you use? I use chrome and when I go back to the 'latest' page, it doesn't take me to the actual latest page, just the page I was on. It used to go to the latest page but it changed sometime this year I think. It took a bit of adjustment but I quite like it now.

if you've just clicked into the thread from the main SE++ page, the URL doesn't specify the page, it just says #latest, which is the latest post you haven't read. The forums assume you've read all posts on a page when it loads, so if you click away from a #latest page and click back, it takes you to the first post on the next page. Unless the page you were on wasn't finished yet, and there are new posts on that page that the forum knows you haven't seen, then it will take you to those. If you're a few pages behind on a thread though, clicking back to a #latest URL should definitely take you to the next page. This is forum-coded behaviour, I don't see how it could vary by browser.
edit- for me, going back always takes me to what I was looking at previously. If I post, go to google, then go back, my post will not be there unless I hit refresh. It is loading the old page when I hit back, not the new page. Same with '#latest', I just tested on a unread thread. Page one, then to google, then back, still on page one. And I scrolled through the whole page to make sure that I'd "read" all the posts. The '#latest' makes no difference for me when I am going back or reopening a closed tab.
It's handy most of the time, except for when I have made a post.

This is both cool and not cool? I dunno. Like, I would love to see the same characters shown in different ways in different comics, but it also feels wrong, like some kind of weird advertising? It's too soon to form any lasting opinion, at least.

One small problem for me. I mostly browse this thread at work. Twitter is blocked on my work computer. (But oddly most webcomic sites are fine) Sadly, I think I'm probably going to miss a lot of updates under this new rule. C'est la vie.
