if base building in ARK wasn't awful it would be my favorite game

building shit in space engineers is so easy because I can do it in creative (where you can do mirroring and draw planes or lines of blocks) and save the blueprint, and then to build it in survival I just have to shit resources into the blueprint until it's finished

Yeah the 10 billion carrying capacity estimations are on current arable lands and not like developing more arable land, or technology like hydroponics.

    It's going to be painful.

So the town of Amatrice, Italy doesn't exist anymore after this mornings earthquake.
This wonderful town is the home of a staple Italian dish
    DRXh1iLl.jpg
[Pasta of Choice] all'Amatriciana (Usually Spaghetti or Bucatini)
Traditionally Amatriciana is made with Tomato, guanciale (pork jowl), and pecorino cheese. Often a combination of Chili, Black Pepper, Onion, and Garlic are used.

    It's beautiful

I wouldn't think we're doomed on that timescale, but I don't think there's any reason to be too optimistic either.

It's not like any country has been trying especially hard to mitigate problems already. They meet up and occupy a city every couple years, then sit around in a circle and jerk eachother off and pat eachothers backs at a press conference.

Feels to me like an incredibly huge catastrophe is what it's going to take before anyone tries. Like a billion people migration, massive starvation in the west or something similar.

We seem to be terrible at long-term planning for stuff, so yeah, a cataclysm or something would get us concentrated and pointing in the same direction, survival-wise.

Or, you know, we amble along stupidly to a slow decline and eventual extinction. Either is fine with me.

    @Shazkar Shadowstorm not really.

    Most food isn't ocean based.

The bigger problem is water but there are ways, expensive ways, we can probably work around that.

Also to tell the truth that number is way lower than we thought it would be in 1980 or 1990 or even 10 years ago. Population growth overall is leveling out.

The world produces more than enough food to feed everyone, distribution is the issue. So yay green revolution.

You been in a funk recently bro. World might not be some utopia but we ain't going to be totally fucked.
