I loved that shit so much
There's so much character and life in the animation in the episode. That combined with the writing and performance is what makes it one of everyone's top episodes.
The new episodes miss so much of that character and life. Everything is so on model and the environments are just cold and crammed full of too many small details.
The main thing I thought about when I saw this video was "this is Simpsons as hell and I am so glad Conan has never lost that sensibility"

Flash is slowly starting to get back to off-model. The Friendship is Magic fandom calls it faec or faic when animators make an exaggerated, off-model facial expression, although they don't do it for movement.

That's the first thing that's ever gone wrong.

The thing is, you always COULD have dynamic, unique animation in flash.
They just didn't bother, because it was easier without it.
Animation went from having a balance of the humour coming from the script and the animation itself to just relying on the script. But it's so much quicker and cheaper to make the animation as basic and repeatable as possible.
The real shame in it all is that around the same time the animation got less funny, the writing also got less funny.
