Okay, so we have a thread where people can vent about the things that happened which they're angry about, which is perfectly valid, but I figure that it'd be good to balance the anger with happiness.

So, what happened recently that put a bit of a spring in your step? I'll go ahead and start us off.

- Got a free phone as a prize for successfully kicking a beach ball through a Cricket store employee's legs to score a goal before he even registered the ball moving. Also walked away now with Cricket instead of Verizon so that chops my phone bill in half and I'll never be charged or blocked for going over 2.5 GB, it'll just move me to slower speeds.
- Picked up a pack of Sharpie pens because the Job thread successfully enticed me. I look forward to indoctrinating myself into their mystical and wondrous ways.
- Happened upon a Hickory Farms stand that was running a 75% off sale on all remaining stock. So I got a $30 meat and cheese bonanza for $7.50 to serve as New Years snacks, as is tradition with my family.

things that have made me glad lately:

-discovering there were more picross 3d 2 puzzles than I thought
-watching cubs highlights again because I'm a chump
-there was a song I heard at a concert that I liked but I never figured out what it was called and I forgot about it and then I found it on youtube on accident and it's good:

I've been getting back into the swing of things and made some solid progress on a web app I'm working on, so that's pretty cool. I even managed to fix a non-critical bug that had been... bugging me for a little while now.

More importantly though, I just got Genji's Oni skin in Overwatch and it is pretty sweet. I joined a quick play game midway through the match to try it out/show it off, and managed to play a defensive Genji well enough that I ended up with gold elims/obj kills/damage and POTG. I was pretty solidly expecting to drag the team down with my antics so I was pleasantly surprised.

    Today was a good day!

    My kids. Worth every penny.

Worship You ~ Vampire Weekend, and so much more in the way of music

    Scrambling

    Knitting

Learning instruments... I have this amazing ami that I'm going to bring out again for the brief window where my son is old enough that I can tell him not to destroy it, and my daughter is too young to destroy it. Maybe even more than that, I want to get my violin fixed, but that is money I really don't have right now. I hate this climate.

    My husband

    My roommate

Very technical, precise, fiddly things, and getting great results

    You're One ~ Imperial Teen

other stuff I'll think of at not 1:30am

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn

Problem with that is Volvos cost more to service and maintain, and for $5k you're not going to get much for your money.

I'm waiting for my set to arrive too - I had the admin order them last week.

I'm glad that I went to NYC on Tuesday and Wednesday with my wife and son to celebrate our 40th birthdays (hers just hit, mine is 2/2). We saw the Christmas lights, rubbed the Wallstreet bull's testicles for luck, wandered Chinatown, got to see Macy's holiday section and ate far too much delightful food. Despite me having a pretty bad cold at the last minute it was wonderful.

Also, I'm glad tomorrow night is New Year's Eve and the wife, son, niece and I are doing our 4th annual board game night, and this year I ordered a final winner and loser trophy and they don't know it yet. One of us is getting a toilet trophy and it's going to be wonderful.

After the new FLSA overtime rule from the DOL was paused by an injunction last month, my institution went ahead and implemented it anyway, saying it was in line with their goals for postdocs. My first paycheck under the new salary structure arrived this week! Feels good to be recognized.

Know what's funny is that when it came out that the form was a woman in bondage, I already knew what photograph they'd used as the reference for the pose.

No, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the Bjork video. And doing a google search, I can't even remember which piece of concept art it was that drew so heavily from this picture I'm thinking about.

I've been on travel in Florida since Nov 5th so I'm not too stoked about it anymore, but I am making just the absolute fattest stacks, and the project is almost finished so I can go home.
Also my parents moved back to the East Coast, which is great news for my mom who had been pretty miserable out in Texas the past seven years. So I'm happy for them.
