I will just chime in here to say that I very rarely use public restrooms, because they fucking terrify me, and now I'm even more scared.

    So yeah, fuck you trump.

Fuck this narrative that all women need protecting all the time. If a man came into a public restroom I was using the only reason it would be weird is cos I know he's not supposed to be allowed in. If the rules suddenly changed to all bathrooms being unisex I wouldn't give a crap. Because the vast majority of people - male or female, trans or cis - are not fucked up sexual predators.

Very true indeed. People who commit sexual assault rarely do so because they are sexually excited by seeing women (or men) actually do things. They just create an imagined narrative in their heads, or don't even do it because of any sexual excitement. Segregating bathrooms does nothing to prevent sexual assault. It might even increase it by creating 'distinction' between women and men and making it easier for people to other them.

It's not an official determination, it's just SCOTUS saying the rule is if you file into the case you use the caption of the case correctly, with perhaps an implied: don't use it to try to make some point about what you think his gender should be you assholes

Never forget that Huckabee said he wished he could have used bathroom laws to peep on women in the showers

Taking something meant to give basic human dignity to people and using it as a way of objectifying and degrading women is super scummy

As usual with GOP policies, it's all about projection; the only people who care about using the bathroom for sexual purposes and are vocal about it are Republicans

Trump Says Transgender People Will Not Be Allowed in the Military

He cites "tremendous medical costs and disruption" because of course he does.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/wonk/wp/2017/07/26/the-military-spends-five-times-as-much-on-viagra-as-it-would-on-transgender-troops-medical-care/
“The implication is that even in the most extreme scenario that we were able to identify … we expect only a 0.13-percent ($8.4 million out of $6.2 billion) increase in health care spending,” Rand's authors concluded.

By contrast, total military spending on erectile dysfunction medicines amounts to $84 million annually, according to an analysis by the Military Times — 10 times the cost of annual transition-related medical care for active duty transgender servicemembers.

The military spends $41.6 million annually on Viagra alone, according to the Military Times analysis — roughly five times the estimated spending on transition-related medical care for transgender troops.

So he's objectively full of shit.

And, just for fun, so is this guy:

My question here is that Trumps statement specifically says that the US government will not accept or allow transgender people to serve in the military in any capacity. Lets break down what a transgendered person could be defined to be!

    1) A person who wishes to be referred to and treated as a different gender than their biological sex, without making any changes to their own physical appearance
    2) A person who wishes to be referred to and treated as a different gender than their biological sex, and has undertaken surgery or other therapies to modify their own physical appearance
(These first two are the ones trump thinks he's talking about, which is bad enough)
    3) A person who has a common genetic abnormality which places them in a non binary biological sex, such as XXY or YY. These people may or may not be aware of their own status. Only a genetic exam would uncover their transgendered status.
    4) A person who has a physical abnormality in their genital development which caused them to be assigned to a different sex than their biological sex at birth. This person may or may not be aware of their own status. Only a detailed physical exam would uncover their transgendered status.

He didn't say that transgendered people couldn't serve openly, or that transgendered peoples decisions as their gender identity would be ignored. He said that they had to be purged entirely from the ranks at EVERY level. From janitor to general.

So my question is, when do the genetic exams and detailed examinations of genitalia for ALL troops begin?

It's apparently a THING going around right now in the particularly transphobic and insane part of the right that's flaring up. They think that transgender people are destroying the military as a scheme to get free gender reassignment surgery.

    No, seriously.

I'm going out on a limb and guess that drinking heavily is involved to a large degree. Same with most of the people at the Pentagon. As for the Chiefs, I'm thinking they're spending the day in the President's waiting room as he avoids them and their assistants for the next week or three. Better hope there's no new military conflict in the next day or two.

    Politico:
House Republicans were planning to pass a spending bill stacked with his campaign promises, including money to build his border wall with Mexico.

But an internal House Republican fight over transgender troops was threatening to blow up the bill. And House GOP insiders feared they might not have the votes to pass the legislation because defense hawks wanted a ban on Pentagon-funded sex reassignment operations — something GOP leaders wouldn’t give them.

They turned to Trump, who didn’t hesitate. In the flash of a tweet, he announced that transgender troops would be banned altogether.

Trump’s sudden decision was, in part, a last-ditch attempt to save a House proposal full of his campaign promises that was on the verge of defeat, numerous congressional and White House sources said.
So apparently this is because the leaders in the House reached out to the White House for help. And Trump's wall funds were threatened.
Numerous House conservatives and defense hawks this week had threatened to derail their own legislation if it did not include a prohibition on Pentagon funding for gender reassignment surgeries, which they deem a waste of taxpayer money. But GOP leaders were caught in a pinch between those demands and moderate Republicans who felt the proposal was blatantly discriminatory.

Naturally this is exactly what the House Republican leadership asked Trump to do, right? Well...
The president’s directive, of course, took the House issue a step beyond paying for gender reassignment surgery and other medical treatment. House Republicans were never debating expelling all transgender troops from the military.

"This is like someone told the White House to light a candle on the table and the WH set the whole table on fire,” said one senior House Republican aide. The source said that while GOP leaders asked the White House for help, they weren't expecting — and got no heads up on — Trump's far-reaching directive.

Seeing as no actual policy beyond the tweets has been enacted as of yet, once again all our hopes ride on Republican moderates and the sheer incompetence of the administration.

So I'm calling complete bullshit on this being a discussion by military experts, and in reality it was fucknuts like Gohmert and King calling Trump and saying "You won't get your wall if they fund trans healthcare." So Trump kneejerks a complete ban on all trans people serving just to get funding for his wall.

Firing between 2k-15k soldiers in a likely illegal fashion, and recruiting and training their replacements might cost $9 billion though.
