See you on the other side, folks :)

I mean I don't really but kinda I hate you atm and I'm so jealous.

I've read multiple tweets and stuff from people who basically say they think hardcore Star Wars fans are going to have an issue with this movie. Do you agree?

Not really. Considering they where calling Rey a Mary Sue and TFA a rehash of ANH. I didn't see anything that could reach that levels.

Of course I have only seen it once, let me check it out 20-30 more times and get back to you.

I'm not thinking of those when I think hardcore Star Wars fan. I'm thinking more of the people that don't want the rules to be broken within the universe (like how the force works, etc) or they don't want revered characters (like Luke) ruined.

    Too late.

I'm a bit scurred to ask, but, as a huge Luke fan, do you think they do him credit? Some people say, "it's the best Hamill has ever done as Luke" others are not nearly as happy.

Mind you, I've made my peace in regards to what happens to the character. I just hope whatever they do, they do it well.

    Y/N answers are acceptable.

The 2 people I usually listen to for this kind of stuff both said Hamill knocked it out of the park as Luke.

Some people were never going to be satisfied about the performance, and not all of them grognards!

I don't doubt that Hamill kills it as Luke. I'm more worried about how the plot handles Luke as a character.

Like I was barely ever invested in Han Solo or Leia so whatever they want to do with them, I'll likely be fine. I know some Han Solo nerds weren't happy that Han in TFA
seemed to have just abandoned his family and Leia specifically. Mainly because in the books, he had grown past his OT ways and had become a relatively devoted partner to Leia.

I worry that I will feel the same way with however they handle Luke in TLJ. He became a big part of the EU and I have a ton of book memories of his awesomeness. I just want this new trilogy to do his character a solid service.

Having never delved into the EU, I think his path was pretty good and kind of relatable given the circumstances in TFA.

Stuff like that's been known to destroy families.

I'm fine with the arcs they took with all the characters in TFA, I just want the payoff in TLJ to be good.

    To be safe, in TFA
I'm ok with Han and Leia's on/off again relationship. And also Luke's imposed exile. It's clear he went through the wringer with Ben killing off his Knights. I just want his return to be the return of the King in the Mountain,
in a mythological sense, since the entire plot of TFA was essentially: yo, we are so screwed without Luke Skywalker!

If he doesn't make it out of the movie, that's ok. I just want him to go out swinging as a champ.

Luke was handled excellently in TLJ. His motivations make a ton of sense within the context of this movie.

I also can't wait to see most peoples general reactions to the stuff they did in this movie. One in particular.

Btw, my opinion on the 3D; not as good as TFA, better than R1 but not by a lot. I don't think I'd miss it.

    Disney SW rankings

    1) The Last Jedi
    2) Rogue One
    3) The Force Awakens

Abrams has gotta step up his game for movie 3, Johnson drank his milkshake.

Edit: That was like the Dark Knight of Star Wars movies, I didn’t want it to end.

This one isn't a real spoiler, but I'm going to spoiler tag it anyway because it has to deal with the movie and character development.
Last Chance. Don't click any further unless you wanna be spoiled!
So I have a different, laissez faire approach to the spoilers and I embrace them. The one part that sounds disappointing to me is that the spoilers I've read and watch that revolve around Snoke. I guess the people who have seen the film mentioned that not much, if anything, is revealed about Snoke. Hes the big baddie, and that's it. Kinda wished they fleshed him out a little bit more, but meh. Seeing how they filled a lot of plot holes to TFA, maybe we'll get that same service with TLJ next film

I think that was compounded by me going in hoping to learn more about Rey, Snoke and (to a much lesser extent) Phasma. When it turned out that the answer to the question of "Who are they?" for all three was basically "LOL who gives a shit?" it left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.

The more I think about this film the more conflicted I feel. There's a lot of extremely good stuff in it (pretty much everything Luke does, the Rey/Kylo interactions, that lightspeed scene) but a lot of pretty bad stuff too. Leia's spacewalk had me rolling my eyes and the casino planet felt pretty pointless.

Edit: I also probably didn't really want to watch Luke milk some aliens but YMMV.

Arg, this is going to be the first Star Wars I don't see opening day. I have to wait about an extra week unfortunately.

I'm pretty "whatever" when it comes to spoilers. I've seen some things online and they leave me with mixed feelings, but am withholding final judgement until actually seeing it.

Saw it last night at the midnight premiere. Fantastic movie. Ran into a big spoiler 2 hourse before the film - just as I did 2 years ago.

Heavy spoilers for The Last Jedi
Seriously - don't click if you don't want to be spoiled. Last Chance!
Loved the fact that both Snoke and especially Rey weren't connected to anything or anyone and they were going "Hey, Rey, your parents - guess what, just plot devices to make people talk and guess."

Mark Hamill really knocks it out of the park here. Luke is absolutely great.

    Porgs are life!

I like how they dealt with Kylo and Rey and their constant struggle with themselves and each other. For a second I thought Rey would join him - glad she didn't.

The humor was awesome, didn't feel forced and lit up the scenes.

I probably have way more opinions, but can't articulate them right now. Not sure yet if it was the best Star Wars ever - but easily better as TFA and on par if not better than Rogue One.

    Go see it.

    Spoilers abound
    Pretty massive spoilers
I'm so, so, so glad Rey isn't anybody. No more lineage. No more Skywalkers (except Leia and Ben). The series is freed from that burdon and can go and do what they want it to do. This makes me feel Rian Johnsons idea for a new trilogy not using any old characters might actually follow on rather than be an entirely new timeframe.

Snoke was a huge surprise. I wasn't expecting that at all, and the following fight was amazing.

Hyperspace ramming speed was something I've wanted to see for a long time. Glad they did it! What an incredible scene.

Hamill was great but we knew he would be. His minimalist fighting style was a nice surprise.

It did feel very might like a film correcting the errors of the previous though. And I liked the little winks at the audience for people expecting a rehash of Empire. They weren't obvious so it's not going to spoil future viewings but for those doubters, they were right there.

edit - oh! It was nice to call out something that's been argued about a lot, how Rey beat Kylo Ren at the end of TFA.

Im in the ambivalent camp about how I feel about the film. Like I wouldn't say its bad, but its not one of the better ones (in my opinion). I'll probably go watch it again tomorrow and see if it changes my mind.

Obviously spoilers, seriously don't read if you haven't seen it
My biggest complaint is Admiral Ackbar dying in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment. Put me in a funk causes he's one of my favourites. I was sad for a good half hour afterwards.
Not a big fan of Porgs, however if I was a kid i'd love them. Or the random caretaker aliens that suddenly appear and only exist for Rey to annoy. In fact pretty much the whole Island plot wasn't that good for me.
    No Y-wings appeared.
Seriously Snoke never belittle your minion and then boast no-one will betray me. Thats just a rookie Bond villian mistake.
Yoda's CGI was bad, like it didn't look like Yoda but it was another of his species who showed up

Plus side: Rose is legit awesome, Nien Nunb survived, Poe's short lived mutiny was great. Opening fight was pretty cool (that lady A-wing squadron leader RIP). That one shot of Luke standing facing an army of AT-ATs with the sun behind them (turn that image into a poster like right now). Poe, Finn and Rose are all great. Evil BB8. Carrie Fisher knocks it out the park. Oh and the continual theme of the First Order always falling for incredibly obvious stalling tactics.

Being in a theatre packed with fans can be a magical experience. Sometimes I think that's the best reason to even go to the theater. But then it only takes one bad experience to make you hate theatres and people forever.
