There's things I'd like to say about Lil' Donny, but I would really like to visit the USA some day and I don't need the NSA skimming threads like this and caching my posts as an excuse to ban me from entering the country.

You know what's cool? Samaritans still exist! There's a small community of about 700 in Israel and they still do animal sacrifices and stuff, but at Mount Gerizim instead of Jerusalem. The community is shrinking and they've been on the verge of disappearing altogether for centuries. There used to be 5 families but now there's only four. They've been at the point of disappearing entirely through most of the 19th and 20th centuries and the current 700 is actually higher than what it was in the past.
"Heathen" is probably the wrong word, as their religion is the same as Judaism (with only a few small differences). "Heretic" might be more accurate depending on the time period and who you're asking. But they've currently got a fairly peaceful relationship with both Jews and Muslims in Palestine/Israel. Mainly because they are a very small community and don't want to cause trouble for themselves.
probably has a lot to do with the fact that they aren't a belligerent irredentist ethnostate with the backing of a superpower

It's people like Evangelicals that give religion a bad name
And I say that as someone who is very non-religious. It sucks that what is mostly just a thing in people's lives that helps them through day to day matters, great and small, is then held up on a stick that also says a bunch of stupid, hateful, bigoted stuff by these sort of fuckwits
"Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried." - G.K.C.
Also unsurprisingly there is a difference between being culturally religious and an active (and sincerely trying) adherent of said religion.

As much as I love GKC, as a former Christian who tried very, very hard, and runs in online communities with other former Christians who tried so hard that some of them were preachers or theologians for years, I disagree strongly with that quote!
Which is fine. But it's as good as summary as I can pithy state it in regards the extreme broad topic TM, "Yo, why Evangelicals so wack?"
Because, most aren't trying to do a very good job. I say this as a child of veteran ministers.
And yes yes, "no true Scotsman" ad nasuem, but we're trying to keep things moving here.

Twitter's a terrible website but its also exposed me to some genuinely nice, caring, progressive-minded folk on seminary/ministry paths that got me feeling less down on christianity as a whole.
I wish people would just start walking out or cutting to studio when he does shit like that. Like that moron breitbart guy comparing Ringo Starr to Roy Moore because Ringo covered 'You're 16'. Like covering a fictional song about teenage love is the same as molesting a child.
Cut the camera and calmly explain why what that guy just said is complete and utter bullshit. Then stop inviting him back.
Things like this should happen more. Like that interview with Trump where he keeps pressing him about what he (Trump) meant by what he said. There's a level of letting people present their opinion, but yeah, absolute bullshit needs to be called out.
A woman approached The Post with dramatic — and false — tale about Roy Moore. She appears to be part of undercover sting operation. Post reporters found inconsistencies in the woman's story and an Internet post that raised doubts about her motivations. Today, reporters saw her walking into Project Veritas, an organization that targets journalists in an effort to embarrass them.

I want that interviewer to win the Nobel peace prize for not beating richard Spencer to death with his bare hands.
Hell, I want to do that right now, I honestly cannot imagine how much rage that man must have been feeling and he managed to remain polite and reasonable throughout the interview. And not just pull out a ball pein hammer and start swinging...
shout out to project veritas for inadvertently proving that the washington post does actual journalism
the problem is, the people who already hate the washington post are going to eat up their version of events and not give a shit about how james o'keefe and co got completely clowned
There was also a robocall about a fake Washington Post reporter looking for stories about Roy Moore I believe - they're pushing the conspiracy theory pretty hard on this one.
James o Keefe and veritas are some of the most vile people I can think of.
He's sooo bad at this kind of stuff too.
Like, why on Earth would people still give this buffoon money?
Because his followers don't care if he fucks up, because they don't read about how he fucked up. They read that he had another great sting operation. His spin on this story is that the Washington Post is scared of what he's about to release about them. And even if the only places that pick up on his side of things are like, Breitbart and the Daily Caller? Those are the readers least likely to believe sites like the Washington Post, who they've been trained to believe are liberal agitators or whatever.
In short, they give him money because he keeps their "fake news" narrative alive, and they give him money because all he has to do is get lucky one time and immeasurable damage gets done. I mean, they're fucking terrible at sting operations, so they're not terribly likely to get a major newspaper like the Washington Post or New York Times to just blindly run with whatever nonsense they try to feed them, but all it takes is one fuck up and everything goes to shit.

Just apologizing is the exact opposite of taking responsibility.
That's up to Franken and the women in question to decide.
And the voters of Minnesota, and any voting Democrat or Independents concerned with the party brushing this aside...
So no. Not just.
You're taking the victims out of the equation and diminishing them by saying its up to other people to decide what's right as far as making amends goes. I know one of them said she doesn't want him to step down. If the others say he should, then he should. If not, then who are we to argue with them, who actually went through the creepy shit?
Edit - And this is like the third time I've flip-flopped on Franken stepping down. I dunno, I can't decide, this shit is difficult to figure out. But after a huge scolding I got yesterday from a woman who has been through shit like this, I am currently on this side of things. Everything she said made sense to me.
It's easier to think that him not being senator anymore has nothing to do with making amends - it's just the will of the people.
Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.

I’m not taking them out of the equation or diminishing them, but the reality is this information is out there and every voter gets to decide if Franken just saying he’s sorry is good enough or not independent of what these women would prefer.

yeah like if we want to say forgiveness or pressing charges is between him and the victims that's one thing and their opinions should definitely matter, but I don't think the victims are the final word on whether he gets to continue representing everyone else
Yeah I said at the start of all this that I didn't think he should resign because it was one very stupid and inappropriate instance and his response combined with his victim's seemed to end it there for me.
Now it's a pattern of behavior, and goddammit Al you asshole. Just don't be a shitty creep! It's not difficult!
There's nothing good he can accomplish there now that a replacement couldn't do, so even just from a cynically pragmatic perspective he should resign. Add in ethics and he double needs to go.
That WaPo reporter looked genuinely angry but maintained her composure very well.

I've taken some pretty big issue with some of the opinions that have come out of wapo editorial board (although I also don't care much for trump either, to put it mildly), but their reporters seem to do the fucking legwork on their reporting and I appreciate that
End on
I wish that someway, somehow, that I could save every one of us
