about the guy who wears the same thing every day
there was a brief period where i was trying to move towards a more minimal warddrobe, more techwear, more basics etc...
but then i reopened the fashion floodgates and went hard in the other direction
i like fashion too much for straight minimalism, but i could probably strike a better balance and own less things but better things
Edit: I bought the Ben Sherman jacket. Depending on how that looks and fits it may just be a start. I probably won't be wearing the jacket for another month, but I've missed out on stuff before on Nordstrom Rack while I couldn't make my mind up over something. I really like Ben Sherman's casual button down shirts and have 6-8 at this point because they fit me really well. If the fit on the model is anything to go by the medium should fit as well as the shirts do.
Ok my beard is getting into weird mountain man territory.
Shaping our Styling suggestions anyone?
I will say that I enjoy it on the long side, especially now with this bossman beard oil jelly stuff (also the conditioner and balm) which works much better for me than the honest amish stuff I was using and smells a little bit better (less sweet)
I think it looks good with a bit of the fluff to it, I guess it depends on what you want it to do
If you want it to change the profile of your face, I guess?
I tried growing out the chin on mine a little more to add some illusion of chin to my face
I don't think it was working
+1

I think that thread goes a bit hard on blaming Brummell exclusively for the dandy movement (and the dandy movement exclusively for the sad state of men's fashion)

(but variety is the spice of life??? who knows)
You don't need to be minimal, but interchangeable. Like, the idea that with 16 pieces of clothing you have 256 outfits.

I also hate having my moustache in my mouth or feeling it on my lips. I trim mine so it just covers the top of my lip. That's very much a personal preference and personal comfort thing though.
Glad to hear the Bossman stuff is working well for you.
some of this is interesting to consider, especially the points regarding suits and palette. i think blaming the dude for a focus on detail is a bit much, though?
to her prior point, sure, agreed, outside of some extremely narrow profession-oriented edge cases you should not be spending six hours getting dressed in your daily drivers. that's a dipshit way to live. but like for example max bemis was cracking jokes in 2004 about taking ages getting his hair the precise sort of fucked-up he wanted it to be and i think that might simply be what paying close attention to Fashion does to you rather than the beau brummell's terrible gravity warping punk aesthetics
I think the original thread is informative but perhaps too narrow in its focus on Brummell, but I think the joke tweet about it is unnecessarily shitty

there are tech literacy classes for senior citizens, something i took advantage of before the osteoporosis transformed my ancient skeleton into a fine powder
Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.
I wear the black because it's easier to match than brown

Hmm, that's good too.
I found this on Nordstrom Rack https://www.nordstromrack.com/shop/product/2698420/ben-sherman-harrington-ponte-knit-jacket?color=CHARCOAL. The normal harrington from Ben Sherman seems to run a size small but hopefully a linen one will be more true to size.

Dammit, I was just about to link that thread.

If you wanted to do some basic shaping on your cheeks you could get something like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XBJX348

looool yeah okay... I think "toxic masculinity" started WAAAAY before that shit
it's literally thousands of years old and has had different "flavors" throughout history
but okay

Brummell was a symptom, not the cause
cultivating the correct degree of dishevelment has a place in men's and women's fashion, both mainstream and counterculture, and is great!
I wasn't sure
I don't know how to do the Twitter

It is all kinds of uncomfortable.
No.
No, yeah. That checks out, actually.
